my totally fig tree lasted about two months and this is gross but i think you know what i don't know what happened but when i moved to boston i bought a fiddly fig tree at like the home depot or whatever they had them and it was like right when they were all becoming really popular and it was in like all of the architectural digest shows and all that i was like oh i feel so special and everyone was saying that they were easy to take care of which they're not they're finicky so i'm really i'm shocked you were able to keep them alive but here's the gross part so i had it and then i just moved into the apartment and i thought that there were just these like weird stains and marks on the floor near where i put the fiddly picture so i was like oh this makes sense like a few weeks and i was like oh look at me like i'm i had good placement with this fiddly fig tree turns out it was actually worms that had crawled out of the fiddly fig tree and then died on the floor and then like dehydrated so they really grin laid super flat to the ground i thought

High-rise and mechanical fears

and for today's episode that thing is a wendigo this roughly translates to the evil spirit who devours mankind or a monster and saying its name is said to give it power so i'm going to be respectful of the people who know the most about this and have it in the their lore which is the native people of america and canada and so this is the only time i'm saying the name you heard it i'm never saying it again yeah we're going to refer to it as a windy boy which is apparently common

calling it a windy boy yeah i think so because i did i mean i researched this hard because the problem is with this there's so much like whitewashing that came with the lore and the stories of this creature and so i had to go really deep and like do a ton of research to find truly what like the the native people and the varying tribes around the area where this creature is said to be like what they think and what they say and there were quite a few videos where they were calling it by its name like maybe just once and then calling it a windy boy or some other like nickname that's not necessarily yeah because there's a lot of superstition about this and similar creatures in native cultures where speaking about them actually gives them more power which is so fascinating and also definitely not something we want to do so right and also now that we're saying it out loud i didn't i just assumed that me saying it would draw it towards me but i'm not sure what the rules are about

back in 2019. he grew up in a very wooded back country in the south and he is presumably still a us marine but at the time he was um and after being discharged he went back home to visit one of his friends jacob and they were hanging out they were chatting just catching up you know and jacob suggests that they go to this hangout spot in the woods that he and his ex-girlfriend used to go to just because it's like peaceful it's nice like it's an opportunity to you know like get out of the house and hang out together so bradley's like yeah sure let's do it so he grabs his gun and they go out into this like very wooded area um there's an old dock that has been like brought up onto the land and it's rotted through and jacob and bradley they're shooting the together and kind of just like sitting standing walking around kind of like pushing their feet through the rotted part of the wood just like hanging out and then 30 minutes into catching up jacob asks bradley if he's ever heard of this spirit this windy boy oh so they're

talking about it in the woods yes well bradley had never heard of it before but jacob was like there's just so much that's happening on social media in the news and i keep hearing about these cryptids and these demons and these spirits and he's just basically like bringing up all of the things that he's seen kind of like you and i sprinted like right talking about what we would probably have where it's like did you see or did you hear and so he asks if he's heard of this thing and bradley is like no i haven't and he said admittedly he was a little spooked just by the name he like kind of realized that it probably was something that they shouldn't be talking about talk about yeah but jacob yeah but jacob told him that he heard that if you go into the woods and you say its name three times you'll see it and it's the scariest thing you'll ever see so kind of like a bloody mary game like they turned it into sort of like what jacob's on social media and so now bradley's like hardy har har like that sounds like bs prove it and so now they're like okay let's

take a little path deeper into the woods and we'll see like who's brave enough to say it and so they walk deeper into the woods nearly at the alabama state line so they're like south and this thing is supposed to be more of like a cold weather entity but they are very south now and they get to a spot after 20 minutes and decide that it's a good spot to complete what is now a dare to say its name three times and so the two men turn to each other and jacob dares bradley to do it and he does he says it three times the woods are silent which is never which is not a thing yeah if you don't anytime noise goes away run i guess you can't run in this situation but anyway right terrifying so the woods are silent except for like what's already naturally there in terms of the wind in the trees but all of the birds all of the animals just quiet so now thinking about that

yes they're they're waiting but nothing happens and so bradley's like okay we weren't really expecting anything to happen but like you know there's always a part of you that's like holy crap is this actually real yeah but he said in his friendship with jacob that jacob often times is like always right and so it was bradley's opportunity to kind of like tease him and be like you were wrong you really thought something was gonna happen huh like you know poke fun at him but then there's this noise in the distance as he's doing it okay bradley's marine reflexes kick in and he whips his head in the direction of the noise and he starts to move closer to the noise and then 30 feet in front of them coyotes crossed the path and they're like phew thank god it was just coyotes but their hearts are racing and so they're like okay let's call it like our time in the woods is over that was fun but let's go hang back at the house back to civilization where other people are around where we have cars and comfort and maybe more weapons

and so as they start down the path there's a large crack and bradley notices a tree starting to fall and he shoves jacob forward out of the way in this pine tree it lands right between them jacob screams he's scared and bradley hops over the tree all of his training coming he's like defend protect and get my partner out of here and so bradley hops over the tree grabs jacob by the shirt and pulls his stunned friend to his feet and says move jacob move now and jacob freezes fight fight or freeze and he's floating his knees are buckling and he's like falling down to the ground so bradley picks him up once more and the two start sprinting down the path and then from behind them jacob jacob come quick the voice of jacob's little sister olivia so jacob turns returning calls yelling olivia olivia and bradley blocks him from running down the path his heart is pounding and he's screaming jacob look at me it's not her do you hear me it's
