very spooky hi hey welcome to two girls one ghost two girls one ghost we are your ghostesses that's Karen and I'm Sabrina do you want to let people know what's going on with the noise behind you there's a man breaking into my second story no uh if you're watching on video we probably won't include his face for his own privacy but there is H A Team working here when Brian and I bought the house we were told by the inspector that we had one year left to paint our house or else the siding was going to like rust and rot off the decides so that's
1:00
currently what's happening behind me so there's going to be some scraping and some noises because we had no choice but you can as you're listening close your eyes and picture either a ghost behind kin or someone breaking in whatever floats your boat dealer's Choice dealer's Choice also someone commented recently was like wait I can watch your podcast yeah we we have YouTube we've been on YouTube for two years now is it two years something like that I think wait yeah because we started it June of 2022 and this in our publishing world is June of 2024 when this episode comes out so yeah it's been two years go check it out there was a crazy thing that
Fossil flooring mystery
happened or it's currently happening on Reddit right now and I would like to tell you about it I know very little details so I would encourage people to go do more information seeking themselves but someone's parents I don't know if they're in America or if they're in the UK or where they are in the world
2:00
but somebody's parents just got their floors redone with some travertine tile and this person their like adult son or whoever it is was looking at their parents' new floor and he himself is a dentist and he's like I think you have a fossil of a jaw in this Stone he was like this looks so much like a jaw like a mandible and then so he goes around and he discovers a couple other fossil looking sections of this Stone and he posts it to Reddit and then the Reddit people are like you have to go to the fossil people so now all of these fossil expt people are actually communicating with this person like from all of these different organizations and universities and whatever to identify what these are and they believe so they were able to trace the Quarry of this like Traver te tile back to Turkey so it's from turkey or they think generally like this this area and based on the fossils they think that it it's possibly part of like a
3:00
femur like there's different body parts and then the mandible and they're like this is human looking like I think there was a collar bone but based on how quickly this sort of rock forms and kind of like what they can see from the fossil they believe that this is actually an early human fossilized from 200,000 years ago in somebody's flooring in their house stop how freaking cool is that oh my gosh I know I've been really into it I feel like I'm suddenly paleontologist but I mean that is the coolest thing in the worldist but also that now is going to be so disruptive for them who just like were like I just wanted to get new flooring and now they're probably going to have to take it out that's what I'm curious about like do you have to take it out I mean I guess they own it right so they don't have to they do and then
4:00
there's other part like clearly that was a piece of stone that was sliced off where that's fossilized so it's like how many other slices are out there with the other parts of the body because they have a jaw they have a collar bone and they have some sort of kneecap or top of a femur bone or something now I really want to know where yeah can you reassemble this body and it's so wild because at first they thought that the stone was from Spain and they were trying to figure it out and then they traced it back to Turkey which made a lot more sense because the people in the fossil community and like people who have knowledge of early humans were like well based on kind of like the jaw shape and everything this would probably align better with early humans that lived in what is more like modern-day Middle East in Asia then they realized it was actually from turkey and like it's all these pieces are coming together it's so so wild yeah it's so cool I want to be fossilized and put into someone's flooring that's so cool I know we didn't
5:00
think that that was a possibility but that's very cool that's now forget like becoming a tree and forget being buried in a cemetery become fossilized and be put into your grandchildren's floor it's so crazy too because this is an early early human so there's no way like if they had the Consciousness and soul kind of understanding that like we feel we do as current modern day Homo sapiens I wonder how shocked they would be at like what we look like we look like aliens we're this unidentified type of creature basically to them they were able to see this and we like have all this around us like it it does look like a spaceship our houses right so if we were to wait 200,000 years and then our bones pop up somewhere in some species I don't know home like what would it be who would it be what would they look like whatever we evolve into in that many if Earth even exists alive yeah we might go
6:00
extinct who knows wow that is so cool can you send this to me I want to I want to read it I'm gonna go down I will I'll send you the redit thread I do have a confession and I've told you this but I haven't told our listeners this oh okay
Book club and summer reading
a court of thorns and Roses is not for me oh yeah I know gonna have to solo book club chat I know I'll still join the conversations and hear what everyone has to say about it but yeah I you can look up the book discussion questions and just ask me and everyone else who's read you're the interviewer I read the first book and I read it pretty quickly and I liked it it felt very much Beauty and the beasty and then everyone was like but book two is so much better and I'm still taking a really long time to get through book two and I find myself wanting to read it fast so that I can get to the end oh interesting yeah so then you're not going to because I feel like book two for me I've read four of them so far and then I haven't read the fifth one yet because I'm like I'm getting way too far ahead and for these like book chats I'm just not going to remember any that happens if I keep
7:00
reading it so I'm pausing but I don't think I would have been able to pause book two I really liked it so it just must not be your thing and also I feel like it's just not my thing yeah I had said this in our book clubs too that you do have to I feel that you have to read them slowly you actually have to read all the words so if you're looking to kind of speedread it or if you're used to kind of digesting books where you can skim it would be more frustrating to really have to like focus in on all the little clues that are everywhere cuz it's a slower read then you want to read it quickly but it's I felt like I was forced to read it more slowly yeah I think it just the the world right now where I am in my life like I wanted the sex and I didn't want the like world you know and there wasn't enough of the sex yeah I've heard that although this is like the entry series I think into kind of the fantasy world and fairy smut and this sort of thing I have heard that this group of books is not nearly as spicy as a lot of other ones out there
8:00
okay well so I think this is like you dip your toes but if you're really looking for werewolves and vampires and fairies banging there are some other authors out there that give you 70% of the book is just sex see that's what I'm looking for if if you have recommendations for that type of stuff you can send it to us because that's what I'm looking for and then we also at this time we'll have picked a new book club book that we'll be reading over the summer and then we'll have a discussion of when you're back from mat leave so we'll put that in the show notes for everyone but then also go to patreon to check out what we're reading for the uh the summer yes the summer read my mom used to drop me off at the library in the Summers and I would just like sit there and read yeah same it was so fun it was such an easy thing to do too I feel like some of my friends would go to the library sometimes they'd have the various events or whatever and then they also once you hit Middle School age like they had the computers and you could sign up for 15 minutes and you you could go on AIM yeah if you weren't allowed to
9:00
at home which I definitely wasn't for some time I'd go to the library for 15 minutes and get my aim they also had the summer reading challenges and I think if you read a certain amount of books you were gifted a book like they had books that you could pick from and that was the best I've said this I'm not a I don't like flowers flowers are expensive buy me a book instead I'd much rather have a book yeah I'm to give you a book I'm realizing I was very easy to please because I'm prettyy sure at the end of our summer reading challenge we got a bookmark oh okay okay like a special one that said that you did the challenge and that was it and that was motivation enough but my God I probably would have done it more years if we were given a book at the end yeah incentives incentives yeah how great one day I'll work at a library yeah it's my dream I hope everybody's summer can be slow and peaceful and restful and you can read books or listen to podcasts or do whatever you want to to sit there and just listen to the birds just do
10:00
something to make you feel become fossils in someone's floor if that's what you want to do do it truly melt away well or don't be fossilized live forever you left us a little bit on a cliffhanger last week and I did now you have a part two to share ghost stories it was a cliffhanger is not really it was a teaser into this week yeah I was like let's talk about ghosts next week okay everyone and I think everyone gave me the a thumbs up this is Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls history
part two this is a two-part episode and last week we learned of the Daredevils we learned of some people who you know tempted fate and found Fate by passing over the falls and not everyone lived and Sabrina you had said last week you were like wow I'm shocked at how many of these Daredevils lived it's way more than I thought and so I was like oh I should probably look up for you to give you this bit of perspective how many people didn't and the mortality rate was
11:00
just under 90% so almost everyone who tried to do something over the falls died okay so you just shared the like miraculous people who survived and accomplished something okay so don't go chasing waterfalls was the lesson that we learned and we will continue to learn today I'm also going to make one correction to my story from last week because as I was doing more research into the ghostly side of Niagara Falls I found more details about the group of people who went over the falls that was that 17-year-old or was she 17 but it was the brother or sister deian and Roger who went over with their family friend who had been taking them out on a boat and I was confused cuz I was like I don't understand how she got out of the boat but they couldn't get the other people out of the boat it was just ripped away turns out about a mile or so Upstream their boat had capsized so they were all currently in the water racing towards the Falls because it becomes class six Rapids up top before you even go over the falls so she had managed to kind of finagle her way and like swim I
12:00
guess in a section of the current that like actually allowed her to get to the side to get pulled out and then just had to watch her family friend her uncle and her seven-year-old brother in the middle battling the water and go over the edge but the brother and sister they lived yes let's remember that that was great but basically last week we were like holy Niagara Falls is powerful it's Majestic it has been here for a very very long time long before people decided to barrel roll over the side of it yes so the Falls have been witness to numerous deadly and bloody events throughout history so I'm going to tell us a little bit about some of that dark history and then we'll move into some of the hauntings perfect so the first record of human settlers in this area suggests that the native tribes there are many of them they moved here sometime between the year 1300 and 1400 and these tribes they had their own quarrels so there was just a lot going on as people and groups were moving into this land and trying to establish
13:00
themselves and obviously not everything can just be rainbows and butterflies and hey new neighbor and so actually a little bit later in history when the French came to the Adera and to this area they observed the I'm probably going to butcher this but the Adon DARS people okay and these people the French were noticing they were such peacekeepers so there were these two groups basically the iroy and the hon groups really just did not like each other and the French were noticing this third tribe which they would nickname the neutral tribe and people have basically called them the neutral tribe since that they were basically trying to like put themselves in the middle and be like calm down calm down everything's cool like you just stay your separate ways we're cool we're breathe yes there was a middle child and guess who this middle child who these middle children were led by a woman yeah she was nicknamed The Queen of Peace her name was jaikon SA which again I apologize
14:00
for all of these pronunciations she was like hey hon you stay to the west iroy and the many different branches of iroy you guys maybe chill towards the east and then we'll be right here in the middle on Niagara River so it sounds like they didn't need another party coming in to ruffle any feathers no and I think she was very good at what she was doing too because you know she was like playing Peacemaker but she was also really establishing her own group and her own people and they were very powerful they were very skillful and not only were they great peacekeepers but they were also said to be these really expert Warriors at the time too so this allowed their settlement to grow and by the 1600s there were up to 40,000 people who lived in this community in the the neutral tribe quote unques community so not only did they manage their own governments and different systems because they so many different people so they had like different jobs and trades and it was basically like a a town it was a town it was a city that was operating but they also now had to play
15:00
Peacemaker to more than just the iroy and the Hons there were more groups trying to move in they like ooh wow what is this River and this waterfall let's go chase them and they were just like oh my God there's like over 10 groups trying to establish Roots here and we have to deal with them and also the groups that are more transient and would just kind of like migrate from time to time and also come through here and try to help them not any feathers with some of the groups that are already here so they have so much on their plate yes it does sound exhausting which is why it's like only a woman could do this right like she she was a leader and she was successful I think from everything I her best she was trying her damn best yeah and there's a photo if you've watched the YouTube it depicts this woman the Queen of Peace kind of trying to talk down some of the groups that are trying to fight each other and it's an oil on canvas painting by Ernest Smith it was
16:00
painted in January of 1936 it took him 59 hours and this artist he's since passed away but he is a Native American Artist she's holding out her hand and I imagine she has four candles and she's like blow out the candles blow out the candles everyone I mean it's interesting seeing it like this because she's standing so alone yeah the way that it's depicted yeah it's very motherly too right yeah in the way that this is shown where she's like an older woman and there's all of these younger men and boys and she's like hey yeah look over here stop no no that's what it feels like but I think that she from what I could read was a really incredible person and and led her group in a pretty miraculous way but one of the groups that she was trying to help people not ruffle the feathers of were the senica people at the time so they were very strong and they were very powerful and some of the other tribes feared them and so this
17:00
neutral tribe would try to help them kind of like you know if they needed to pass by the area like how to pass by and not start anything that they weren't trying to start but you know who had a bone to pick with them who and they were like we're not afraid to start with you the French the hon tribe so in 1640 a full-on war broke out between the hon and the senica and some people were running to the queen of Peace's Village and they were just like help me save me I need some safety and unfortunately there were some people who were captured along the way trying to seek Refuge from this other tribe that was along the Niagara and they were taken captive and killed in many cases and one of these people supposedly was the senica warrior named Anan Rees some say that the hon had captured him and killed him other Reports say that he was burned at the stake at an eerie Native American village so I have no idea how he passed but basically I guess the history is a little bit muddled here and I'm probably going to say say some things that differ
18:00
based on different people's accounts but I think the consensus is there was a lot of tension there were a lot of different groups of people in this area blood was boiling hostile attitudes were Rising everyone was mad at everyone basically so for the next few years it seemed that if you lived in this area either you were being attacked or you were attacking so it was a little bit scary probably to live here right at this time and of course with all of that activity happening there were of course many deaths unfortunately in the end of all of this the iroy people were victorious they moved into the Niagara area and they pushed the other groups of native tribes out the neutral Nation the peace Queen their numbers were quite small now so they did suffer from all of these battles and they moved towards Albany but a lot of them split off and kind of were absorbed into some other tribes and so people were just kind of REM migrating and situating themselves in different areas so the Erie they moved
19:00
to Lake Erie the Hons to Minh etc etc the wars were complicated they were bloody just about everyone suffered or probably knew someone who who suffered a death or a horrible casualty and so once that ended they were like okay let's just establish ourselves in these new spots let's all take a breath but that didn't last long because the French who were like hey thanks a lot for letting us hang out here and build our boats and giving us special permission and letting us kind of just sit here we decided that that was really nice but we're going to colonize this area now yeah now we want this area it kind of feels like they also sat back and just watched all these tribes fight for this land and like let the iroy win and push everyone else out so that now it was less people for them to fight right that's a strategic move right there because otherwise you would have had all the groups against you yeah they stirred the pot it's honestly similar to something that happens in acatar which I'm sure you won't but but it is strategy in
20:00
war yeah so the French they came in well I guess they were already there but they came in with more force and they started to push people out but the French would not live here untested for the British were coming after a 19-day battle the French withdrew from the Niagara Peninsula and the British had won but the British wouldn't live here untested because the Americans were coming oh my God enter the war of 1812 it's like no one could you you chilled there for like 19 years you're like this is great and then someone else is like mine yeah it's constant so the War of 1812 it happened America had already been established in 1776 but we were starting to kind of push the boundaries on where we could expand America into and how we could kind of push the British out when they had kind of kept camps in certain areas so Niagara and this sort of like US Canadian border that we have now was one
21:00
of those areas where this war was fought so America struck first we instigated we poked the bear as we do it was 1814 in this area it's called The Battle of Niagara also known as the Battle of Lundy's Lane and this would be one of the bloodiest battles in the War of 1812 and it was one of the deadliest fought in Canada because we pushed into the Canadian side there was a lot of back and forth right between US and Canada in the Border but the Americans at the time did push into Canada it's interesting like you know I know very little about battles and War but having such a massive waterfall as a either barrier or weapon to utilize against like fighting I know is so interesting and makes me think how many people were pushed literally over the falls right and there's I didn't see anything like that CU I was expecting it to be like the movie 300 right like right I was totally expecting that sort of vibe too but at
22:00
the time the way that people fought was very structured so it was a lot of like marching up and in close Okay range shooting each other like it was it was less the way that I think if you and I were thrown into a fight we'd be probably really Scrappy and just literally trying to survive but they were like protocol and my marches right so which is so so interesting yeah I'm sure it was still pretty bad I'm sure there were a couple people who went over the falls oh for sure I'd run I'd be like I'm I'm out I'm a deserter you guys I think so we've learned that about you you push me first it's so weird because it's like if I'm oneon-one my first thought is to fight but if I was in a full-on war it would it would be to flee yeah okay so the American side the American Army they had many Native allies this was versus the British and Canadian Army and they had just a couple native allies so it was like you know maybe a somewhat even distribution of the number of people
23:00
that were fighting or willing to fight on behalf of each group so like I said before a lot of the fighting was done with groups shooting at each other at close range lots of attacks and counterattacks and seizing of different forts Fort Niagara Fort Erie Fort George they were kind of pushing back and forth all over the place in the end America lost both sides lost a lot of people there were some 200 people that were killed 1,500 others that were injured captured or just went missing there's a bunch of people that are just missing from battle but the majority of the Dead were on the American side the number of injured captured and missing is kind of equal on both sides but primarily in terms of the Dead it was the soldiers fighting on behalf of America and so these people were the the dead they were piled high and burned in this sort of ritual I guess like a burial ritual but they were all together just one Mass great I understand that there's so many like different practices especially in
24:00
the midst of War of how you dispose of bodies but I'm just picturing it yeah it's on an image I like to sit with to be honest it's tough to hear it's tough to think about I'm also thinking about the smell I know yeah it it okay let's move on let's not sit here and think
Hauntings of Niagara
about it oh chis okay now presenting a 4D experience two girls one ghost everyone look under your chair you'll find a scratch and sniff for this episode the smell of the to burning dead bodies from the 18 all a sudden like a bucket of water drops on you cuz it's Niagara Falls so clearly there's a lot going on here right we had earlier in history a lot of the Native groups coming in and trying to establish themselves which did result in tension and Wars between them then we had the French and the British fighting and killing each other now we have the British and Canadians and Americans all fighting and K each other the drama and last week and last year last week I told you that there were
25:00
some between the years of 1850 and 2011 there were an estimated 5,000 bodies found at the Falls and that's just from 1850 and on all of this other stuff happened long before then doesn't include that yeah there are a ton of people who've passed here the number is definitely much higher than the estimates and there's also an estimated up to 40 additional deaths occurring each year although sometimes it says 20 to 30 20 to 40 un fortunately a lot of those deaths do happen to be suicide which is really really horrible and also like the amount of bodies that just have not been recovered you know mhm or have washed down stream and now are in the ocean or wherever they are yeah and just think about the people that just go missing too like we don't know how they died like could they be here and also just the amount of whirlpools too I'm like could there be some bodies that will just never come up cuz they're this in this state of being churned until they're nothing anymore or just like
26:00
trapped under rocks and fossilized yeah bog bodies being created here potentially there's a lot of moisture here it's a humid climate well this is why I always say the ocean is the world's largest cemetery and that we're swimming in a grave when you go swimming in the ocean we are and the the foam that washes on the beaches is The Souls of dead mermaids it's what my aunt would tell me a lot of dead Souls a lot of Poor Unfortunate Souls so sad so obviously with all of these deaths and all of these horrific events that have happened that we have written down to retell in history it has provided quite the opportunity for spirits to linger here so along the walkways and The Parks of the falls where we strolled where we ourselves strolled we did not see this person or to my knowledge we did not but there is a mysterious man who people have nicknamed the hatman but not the not the
27:00
hatman yeah he doesn't appear the way that a lot of people's like sleep paralysis or shadow person hauntings from the hatman appear to be it's a man wearing a hat an unusually tall top hat which is why he was given the name the hatman but it's more than just his hat that will make him recognizable he also apparently is missing from one of his legs from the knee down he's missing his leg and so when he's seen walking he's kind of walking speedily but he's also limping he looks like he's struggling and so a lot of people will go up and try to ask him if he's okay or if he needs help and as they start to approach him he'll just vanish done but he's that clear for people to go approach him and that clear too about his boundaries and not wanting to be spoken to and not wanting any social interaction the second you're like hello he's like no nope I'm I'm gone don't talk to me so some people have wondered who he is could he be someone from the war he doesn't appear to be dressed is someone from the war but he does have an
28:00
injury that could maybe potentially be a result of a tragic accident or War but some people are like well it would totally make sense if he was a soldier because the soldiers from the War of 1812 have been spotted here they are preparing for battle so some people are like well I guess some people is also including me where I'm like well is this a residual haunting is this right is this like a glimpse into the past like do we get to for a moment time travel and there's some sort of portal opened up and we're seeing into the past or do these Souls truly not know that they've died and they're continuing to like go and March they're heading towards their enemies right like and we just catch a glimpse of that and they have no idea right it reminds me so much of Gettysburg too where it's like yeah there was that one listener story we read where the it was like almost it felt like it was residual haunting but then the man the ghost attacked a living person so I was like wait that kind of feels like a weird glitch in time where there's so much energy of something that happened here that it's continuing to
29:00
exist and who knows how time works so maybe that exists everywhere but certain places have more energy that there's the ripples that happen more often I don't know yeah I know it is interesting because it's like how do we explain it how do we know because we have now examples like you said from Gettysburg where it does feel residual it feels like a glimpse into the past but then one of the spirits does something out of line or out of character which makes us realize oh maybe this wasn't what we thought it was and so perhaps this could also be something that we're we're not really sure but people do see the spirits moving in their uniforms for battle hurrying ahead as if to find and greet their enemies just down the river where it opens to Lake eie there is the historic Fort Erie which is where many of the soldiers lost their lives during the War of 1812 is Battle of Niagara and it is said that there is a spirit of a young Soldier here whose hands were blown off by a cannonball and so when people see him him he has no hands cannons are one of the coolest but also
30:00
like intense weapons from history and also I feel like when I was a child I always pictured cannonballs being as big as bowling balls but they're so small well it depends yeah and also just the inability for accuracy on those feels very hard it is interesting how often they were used given that it was just kind of like and they take a long time
Cemetery and tunnel legends
too let's see what happens yeah well we've innovated since then but um maybe not in the best way so nearby is Drummond Hill Cemetery this Cemetery actually part of the land that the cemetery is on was the land that they actually fought the Battle of Niagara the Battle of Lundy's Lane and so half of the cemetery that now holds the dead was where the dead fell which is so wild and so so many people have been buried there and it's no surprise that the cemetery is haunted it's a very active hot spot for paranormal investigators to go to and the spirits show up and they show up in many different forms so people have seen them appear in as mist
31:00
or orbs strange lights have been seen full-bodied apparitions and the full-bodied apparitions appear to be in battle uniforms often limping so people are like okay well clearly this is you know people who died in this battle but that makes me sad I like I prefer a residual haunting because then it doesn't feel like these Spirits are stuck here and then this brings up the question of like how do ghosts appear because we've heard stories where ghosts can like choose how they appear but these Spirits clearly seem to be experiencing the pain that they experienced at their death right it's like they're stuck in this time Loop of the last 24 hours before they died or something like that or did their wounds carry on into the Afterlife which is a whole other thing H I know well so along with seeing them moving and limping people also have said that there's the sounds of battle and of them preparing for battle so people will literally hear the fighting going on so perhaps it is
32:00
just kind of like a residual thing we can hope but there are battle noises there are strange footsteps people often report feeling watched so it's like if the feeling of being watched is also believed to be these soldiers maybe it's not residual because are they watching are they like are you the enemy or are you an ally it's pretty scary but then I hope they can't like actually do anything or they're just curious there's probably because there's also so many tourists that are coming through this area that it probably is a great place to people watch and ghost watch because there are hauntings Beyond these Cemetery Gates too many of the neighboring homes so people have bought homes just alongside the cemetery these soldiers also haunt inside of their houses could you imagine waking up to just soldiers marching through your bedroom no I cannot and I feel like this is proof to me that not all cemeteries are so peaceful because I feel like when we were house hunting every time I saw a cemetery nearby I was like oh perfect let's buy the house next to the cemetery and I was so jazzed about the idea cuz I'm I'm like it's going to be so quiet it's going to be so peaceful quiet
33:00
neighbors but if a bloody war was fought right there perhaps not something to consider when house hunting but so far a lot of these huntings seem to be attributed with Wars right well the next encounter is a little bit confusing because it has nothing to do with Wars It's the sound of children laughing and playing so as people walk around the parks of Niagara Falls and they go out to the little observation decks to look out and watch the waterfalls they'll sometimes hear children laughing and playing and when they look around there are no children to be seen who they are we do not know why they're having so much fun by such a dangerous place we do not know okay I have a pitch going back to the question of like or we have no idea how Spirits appear in the afterlife but what if these soldiers who fought and died in the war came back in the afterlife as like little children and they're just running around and having fun and experiencing playfulness rather than tragedy and death that's a great way to think about it like if they have to come back if they can't move on if
34:00
they're forced to haunt this area why not choose to do it as a carefree and innocent and play loving child right there's also an unknown Spirit here which I'm like how do we even know if it's one individual Spirit or if it could be any of these others that we've discussed but people say that as they're walking down the path they do hear someone behind them they hear the footsteps they'll turn around and there'll be no one there but then as they keep going they'll hear your footsteps again and it starts it stops it is clear that someone is maybe either also walking the path or potentially stalking them but there's no one that they can visibly see and numerous people have had this experience a ghost and at first I was like I wonder if it's a sound thing with like the water or whatever like the way it bounces but it's in different areas it's not just like one particular spot that you can hear the footsteps that does feel very childlike to be following like that but it could also just be a curious Spirit who just likes to follow people yeah I have a show recommendation for you I don't know if you would like it actually
35:00
but for people listening maybe you'll like it it's called baby reindeer and it is terrifying because it is based on a true story it's a British comedy on Netflix and this guy had a stalker to like an extreme oh God but it's a comedy it's it's interesting I'm going to say I won't like it because and not to insult any of our British listeners but British humor is not my thing so if it were a drw I love British procedurals British dramas yes yes but since it's comedy I probably wouldn't but maybe I'll give it a try it's almost one of those things where I want you to watch it because I don't want to give away anything else right now because it's so what the you can't believe that it's real wait so it's actually real yeah it's on Netflix right now now I'm kind of more intrigued it's an easy watch I'll let you know if I watch okay so while some people are
Annette Rankin and Devil's Hole
being stalked by Spirits there are other spirits that unfortunately are trying to just find their loved ones and one of those people that is haunting the
36:00
Niagara area is Annette Rankin so last week I talked about how we do harness power from Niagara Falls and use that as an energy source and there was this man William bur Ranken who he worked on the power station the power plant and he was a really big part of its success he had a huge role there okay and he spent a ton of time at work and esta l in this thing and even ni Nicola Tesla said of William that William was quote a man who worked while other people slept so this guy he was a workaholic he had a lot of ambition but he also had a lover and that love of his life was Anette Ranken she would become anet Ranken so at the time they were not married that he was working on niagra's Power Station but she was very patient with his work because at the end once it was up and R did they meet while he was working there I actually have no idea I didn't look too much into their love story okay but I do know that basically I think the
37:00
promise was as soon as everything's up and running they he would take some time off finally and they would get married and they would have their honeymoon so that was great she was super excited I'm sure he was super excited to have some time off the two of them go they get wed they go on their honeymoon and on their honeymoon William has a heart attack and dies oh that's so devastating it's so devastating oh horrible it's tragic so tragic so traumatizing for Anette and after he died it was during the time that spiritualism was very big so people would seek mediums and try to contact their dead and spirit photography was on the rise you know that sort of thing so Anette she did the same thing she took to attending seances she would contact medium she was trying to do whatever she could to make contact with William she missed him so much she was horribly just racked with yeah of course the heartache of losing him and the grief yeah and so she just tried and tried and tried to make contact but she never made contact and it really over the years it really really got to her that's so sad so one
38:00
evening she was in a car and the car was driven by her chauffeur and she was like can you actually pull over for a minute because I think I just need to take a walk I need some air so he pulls over and she exits the vehicle and she never returns a month later her body is found in the river in Niagara River and her body is then taken and she's buried next to her husband William in the cemetery oh I know and it's also so sad because you would think that in death she would finally be reunited with William right but instead her spirit is seen in the power plant so she walks the power plant looking for William assuming that maybe she'd find him there where he always was always worked maybe we just don't see him maybe yeah wait that's a I didn't think about that let's hope that that's the case that they're just both there together I need to believe that we need to we need to believe something for poor Annette but people do claim to see Annette there people who just go to see the power plant and take the tours of
39:00
the power plant they say that they feel like someone's watching them some people have claimed to see Annette and then the employees who work there are like oh she's definitely here because numerous employees have spotted her she is often wearing a fur coat walking around searching for William a fur coat yeah she's bougie she's well-dressed for sure best dress Spirit award if you're going to spend your afterlife wandering around and looking for your loved one at least do it it in a way that makes you comfortable and Chic yeah I feel like I'm with a blanket right now I have the it looks like a f I would drop off the Chic comment and I would probably just wear my comfy my like giant sweatshirt what's it called it's called a comfy a comfy yeah c m FY plug in that company people would be like oh my gosh this place is haunted by like a a giant navy blue square with a head it's just me and my comfy you become a crypted yeah okay so nearby Niagara Falls on the
40:00
Canadian side as you travel to the falls you just may pass an Infamous tunnel it is called the screaming tunnel it was originally built in the 1800s as a passageway for merchants to use but this is not a tunnel that you drive through this is one that it's like on one of the big kind of like walking trails and people if you're going to go into it you walk through it okay maybe some people bike but like it seems a little tricky a little precarious that Terrain so okay maybe some some proper shoes no flip-flops if you're going to DARE go into the tunnel because yeah Safety First the tunnel has a a very sad backstory so it is a little bit of Legend it's a little bit of lore there's a few different versions of it but one of the versions of what happened here is that there was this sweet little baby child this little girl who parents they were in the middle of a custody battle and the dad was so enraged one night that he lit their family barn on fire and she was in the barn and she runs from the barn but she did get smoke
41:00
inhalation she was quite burned from some of the heat of the flames and so she was just so scared she did exit but then she ran until she reached the tunnel and then she hid in the tunnel that night terrified of her dad she succumbed to her injuries and she perished that night in the tunnel there are a few other versions that are more tragic than the one that I just said so we're going to choose to believe that this is how she died and not the other ways that people have said she died or let's just hope it's Legend and lore and not a true story yeah so the haunting piece of it is that people will go to the tunnel a lot of people go with like EMF readers and spirit boxes and do make contact with something they have the cat balls going off all that sort of thing but the legend is if you light a match if you walk into the tunnel when it is night and it's completely pitch black and you take out a single match and you strike it the flame will light up the tunnel with a glow and very soon after
42:00
it will be blown out and then a little girl will scream I one yeah don't like that wouldn't want to do that but then two it feels like you're asking a ghost to perform in like a taunting scary way like a scream is not a positive thing well and also she's afraid of the fire she's supposedly died of a fire so why are you trying to scare her yeah ret traumatize her I think this one we should skip we're not participating in this one right guys no so there are many more haunted places throughout Niagara there's the Red Coach in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church the echo Club a dozen other places and I did write down one or two of these to potentially cover in the future because they're a little bit bigger than me just explaining a couple sentences about it but there's one more place that I want to leave you guys with one more haunting to tell you about just Upstream from The Falls along Niagara River and overlooking a section of Whirlpool Rapids is Devil's whole state park interesting choice the name
43:00
says it all so while the British may have been successful against the Americans in the war of 1812 a few decades before the senica nation struck against the British Invaders and some 80 British soldiers were later found floating in the river dead this would become known as the devil's whole Massacre and it is said that these soldiers haunt this place today it's also said I don't know what this this is true or not but I did read that some of the soldiers were scalped when their bodies were found so I do find it kind of disturbing to picture like seeing a the spirit of a British soldier and he's just completely scalped that's pretty nasty but apparently they were murdered here and that was one of the bloodier events that happened and so people have blamed this event for causing some of the activity that happens because when there is death when there is fear when there are energies that are confused about where they are and where they should go sometimes that can be pretty
44:00
attractive to some other types of entities out there who want to come in and have a little sweet treat a little dessert of fear and horror yeah it is said that there is an evil spirit who has taken up residence in this cave because the state park there's a bunch of trees there's a path that you can go down to get closer to the Niagara River and and kind of see the world pools but there's also a cave and in this cave it is said that there is a spirit Who Will Pray upon some of the lost souls and potentially some of the new Souls who so bravely walk up the steps and into the cave native Legend has said that this entity haunts the cave and specifically lingers in the Devil's Den which I think is maybe a nickname for this cave my question is it sounds like it was named this prior to those bodies being found no I'm unsure I don't know if it came from the name of the battle okay or if the battle was named because of after that where it was before what came first I don't know but we do know that there is a darkness that presides over this
45:00
area and it does attract some Daredevils it also attracts some people who seek to use it for animal sacrifice and dark rituals over the past 300 some years those who have dared to enter the cave are said to hear unexplicable noises coming from it and disembodied voices so I'm curious if these voices cuz it didn't say what these voices said and I am curious because I'm about to tell you about something if these voices are trying to lure people deeper into the cave or if it's Whispering some sort of curse onto them because this place is believed to also be cursed and curse others okay so basically never go here why risk it yeah don't go it seems too scary or at least if you're going to go to the park don't go into the cave right there have been many murders many suicides right here on this land and many people have suffered deadly injuries when traversing the stairs that lead down to the gorge and the question is did these people enter the cave right before one of the most famous people to
46:00
enter the cave was President McKinley he walked into this cave just hours before his assassination did he hear a whispering voice people aren't sure what or why there seems to be so Much Death surrounding this one particular spot within this other otherwise super deadly area that is Nia Falls as a whole but Devil's Hole is said to be no joke so don't mess around when you're there be careful be brave I do appreciate that you sh shared this one with us because I feel like in other places like Sedona has a place where there's like the Devil's Kitchen something like that which is like a cool rock formation that was formed from a sinkhole and I was like oh that's really cool and the title kind of catches my attention whereas now that I know the information about this place I'm would be a little bit more dubious and not go right because I feel like so often we attribute it with like there's just one backstory or like one thing you name it to make it more spooky or whatever but times there is a lot of odd and unexplicable things that happen
47:00
to people after they Venture somewhere which makes other people associate it with like the work of the devil or with evil exactly so those are some of the hauntings that and I guess some of the history too of the Niagara area and Niagara Falls Our advice is don't go chasing waterfalls and maybe don't chase the spirits here either because it is very dangerous area to be in and you just might become another victim of the falls if you tempt your fate too much I mean it also sounds like the spirits sometimes chase you yeah or follow you
Woodbridge poltergeist story
well this is fascinating I mean obviously Niagara Falls has so much history but I didn't know half of this stuff mhm cuz you go there just to be in awe of the falls right you go for nature but sometimes you go for the ghosts which is us we go for the ghosts everywhere we go wow okay well I have a listener story so last week I picked a listener story that was about a waterfall and it took place in the US and since Niagara Falls borders the US
48:00
and Canada this week I chose a story from Canada perfect representing both parties this is from our listener Jen and it is called Woodbridge Poltergeist hello from Canada ladies I Jen was directed to your podcast by my ultra lovely friend Kirby and I have to say I am addicted Kirby am proud to say I've been listen basically 24/7 and it keeps my ADHD brain very happy I really hope that maybe someone listening can come forward with their own stories about this creepy house I have to say that everything I'm about to share happened within a 6-month period you can use our actual names as everyone else involved is fine and we're all good living our Strange and unusual lives great so with a little bit of backstory before 2000 I was a pretty normal little kid I was raised on a farm with my older sister who is 15 months older my mom was a single mom and she worked as a jockey riding race horses that is badass we move along like every year and before this time I never gave much thought to
49:00
the Paranormal or to ghosts I was never scared of the dark or concerned about monsters in My Closet actually I was really obsessed with fairies but the year 2000 changed everything I was 9 years old my family my mom my mom's boyfriend Robbie my sister Jessica and myself and our border colleag job moved into a 100-year-old Victorian style home in Woodbridge Ontario Canada this house was two stories white with a detached garage it sat between a set of duplex homes had a small backyard with a broken wooden fence and a huge maple tree it sat on a fairly busy road our elementary school must have been only a couple blocks away because we walked to school every day the house had wood floors except for in the living room which was carpet my bedroom was one of the three upstairs next to the bathroom there was an old wood door iron latch closet that was in the upstairs hallway and this is important things started quickly the house was so old that it was literally sinking on one side making it so my
50:00
bedroom door did not close it would jam on the floor I had a bunk bed in my room and I slept up top and my dog slept on the bottom bunk with my 100 stuffed animals so cute I love that so much that's the most adorable thing I've ever heard every night for 6 months I would hear that hall closet latch click the Door Creek open and then slam shut along with the sound of hurried slippered feet shuffling down the hallway the slipper noise would go down the hall into my bedroom and do a circle in my room then leave and go back to the closet every time this happened my dog would jump off the bottom bunk stand in the middle of my room facing the door and growl which makes me think that the spirit's like circling the dog I know next came the sleepwalking and the dreams I would have very vivid dreams about being back in the 1900s and washing my clothes in a wash bin I would wake up in my room naked with my pj soaked sitting in a pile by the door oh my gosh like also to
51:00
sleep off of the top bunk is kind of scary and then to imagine washing your clothes wake up naked in your bedroom and all of your clothes are soaking wet in on the floor right I once had a dream I was flying only to wake up midf flight falling out of the top bunk onto the hardwood floor no no no my mom's boyfriend also started sleepwalking and would rummage through the kitchen or watch TV and basically just turn it on to something and stare at the TV not blinking like a frozen person then suddenly jerk upright Scurry upstairs to bed this freaked us out so many times yeah in the summer I would often sit outside and do my homework and sometimes I would sit on the roof of the house that banked from my bedroom window the feeling of being watched in that house was so strong I was always uneasy the energy was so heavy one night there was a commotion and we all awoke to my mom trying to wake our dog job lay motionless on the middle of the landing of the stairs he was completely unresponsive and we all thought he was
52:00
dead we rushed him to the vet where he spent 2 days there before getting better they never figured out what was wrong with him it's almost like the dog was like possessed momentarily yeah oh this reminds me just a really quick side tangent story this reminds me of Emily's bridge in Stow Vermont where there was this a story some guy shared where his dogs when he went there he stopped parked his pickup truck his dogs were in the back of the bed truck when he came back they're both dead so he put them in his yard to bury the next morning cuz it was like night time and they were awake in the morning waiting at the cemetery oh it's creepy once we were all sitting in the living room watching TV and the TV suddenly turned to static we all looked at each other like okay that's creepy and no sooner than that had happened all of the doors and windows in the house slammed shut at once this was the middle of the summer in Ontario and these old wood windows were hard to open and close with the humidity we went as a group to
53:00
investigate and found every door closed even mine remember that door that wouldn't close because the house was sinking on one side yeah closed there was no scratch or gouge in the floor from it being forced it was just closed we actually had to remove the door off the hinges to get it open again my God so this is about 4 months in multiple times a week my mom would wake up to loud music blasting from outside and she would find her truck doors wide open keys in the ignition radio playing the sink in the bathroom would turn on the toilet would flush the kitchen cupboards would be open every morning month 5 the clicking bug arrived every night the slippers would do their thing their daily Trek through my room and then there would be this loud clicking sound as if you were to tap a fork on the wall I could never find the source daily we would find these weird centipede type bugs in the dog's water bowl and being a farm kid I was just like ew bug and I would give my dog new water but I've never seen a bug like that ever since leaving that house I want to know what
54:00
they look like I want a picture a drawing I decided to talk to my sister about things one night and she shared to me that she had seen a small figure in the hallway like a little boy she spent that night in my room and also heard the slippers which in turn scared her so bad she bolted out of my room back to her own wow so it really was just this one room that that that part wasen the shuffling yeah yeah month six these were now nearly daily occurrences Jess and I were playing with this big book of fairy tales in my room when the clicking bug came it was early evening so it was a weird time for it to happen we looked around and found on the wall near the door frame I can only describe this bug as a cross between a centipede and an earwig my sister grabbed the book smacked the bug and the room suddenly got really quiet and then things got weird like a bad drug trip everything went hazy turned this red color and the room started to twist and wave my sister and I both were having trouble breathing then it stopped everything returned to
55:00
normal we never said a word to each other my sister just got up and left my room we ended up talking about this years later and both described experiencing the same thing I will never know what it was fast forward 2 weeks Robbie my mom's boyfriend decides to rip the carpet out of the living room there was the same wood flooring under the carpet so why not and we find this door on the floor down to a basement that was never supposed to exist did we go in yes yes we did no but also yes cuz now we get to hear I would absolutely be so I I would be too curious not well if you have someone with you you have the body system yeah it's daylight I understand I'd probably do the same job our dog would not go down those stairs though he was pacing and barking in the living room and maybe we should have listened the basement had typical concrete walls workbenches lots of quartz crystals on these wooden shelves amethyst crystals one of which I still have today and in the back of this basement was a tunnel which looked like it was literally dug out of the wall about four feet high and
56:00
3 feet across which was not unusual for an Ontario home to have tornado tunnels but this was weird especially with all the crystals and everything on the shelves yeah right Robbie decided to check it out and I remember him going into the tunnel with his flashlight and it was just dark like he literally stepped into a hole and it swallowed him completely which made no sense we should have been able to see his flashlight we literally just watched him walk into this tunnel then Rob comes running back out ghost white scrambling upstairs and the only thing he ever told us was that the room was full of broken mirrors and it was too dangerous for him to go in that was the first time interesting and the last time we ever went into the basement and we moved out of that house 2 weeks later oh it's still a mystery the weeks that followed were weird like coming out of a fog like stepping back and forth through sticky mud and concrete I have little to no memories of school during this entire time and after this happened I've completely opened myself up to the Paranormal having multiple experiences to this day my sister and I have this really weird
57:00
connection and things tend to happen when we're together a lot from seeing shadow people to hearing ghostly screams mid phone call and a Frog bracelet that never was that's a story for another time I could go on for ages I'm happy to say that my experiences have never caused me trauma or fear in the Paranormal but this odd sense of gentle curiosity and belonging I hope you enjoyed my story I hope it makes it onto your podcast one day I will try to join for campfire stories while of Love Jen for only being I mean I understand 100 years is an old house but for only being 100 years I feel like that's a lot of activity well clearly something was happening in that basement yeah Jen was nine when this happened but I'm curious if Jen can find the house and send us photos and we can learn more about it yeah I'm glad that they did move out because it's hard to be you know sleepwalking to have memories of your life in the 1900s too it's kind of like were you mildly possessed was the dog mildly possessed at one time is everyone
58:00
a little bit possessed here it does also kind of seem like the spirit is maybe trying to show Jen a part of their life when they lived in the house yeah but the sleepwalking and waking up naked and your clothes are soaking wet on the floor is terrifying at 9 years some it feels really scary because even the dog is reacting very aggressively very like fear provoked by whatever is happening but then some of it yeah it's where it's like well what is happening if if they're just showing you a glimpse of their life yeah I also hate the basement tunnel with the broken yeah mirrors I also okay going back to the part where she was washing her clothes that actually really does freak me out because that means that there's so much control over her and kind of the sleepwalking scenario and making it real I mean she literally jumped off of her bed too like think about how dangerous what dangerous situations she could be in I also wonder if someone was sleepwalking and turning the car on because for her mom to wake up multiple
59:00
times in the morning and the radio blasting all the doors open it does make me think oh interesting but that's so dangerous someone sleepwalking and literally putting a key in the ignition sh spooky anyway you lived you don't live there anymore someone else does and I'm glad that it actually inspired you to be open to the Paranormal welcome yeah join us well thank you for sharing and for all of you who have not written in your ghostly encounters your weird situations anything paranormal in maob please email us at two girl1 ghost podcast gmail.com also if you've already emailed us and we haven't read your story but you have more stories you can still email us and send the stories send everything you have because yeah maybe we have a topic that it relates to that we might pick it so just send everything you can watch us on YouTube if you didn't know we have YouTube We also release all of our episodes ad free in one week early on our patreon that includes both the audio and and the video portions we have a lot of other cool things over on our patreon we only have one tier it's $5 a month
