She ran up to the owner, frenzied, and said, "Satanic Bible! Satanic Bible! Do you have a Satanic Bible?"

Out of the corner of my eye, seeing the Rougarou, and he was stalking us.

We had only been walking for a few minutes, but somehow we were in a neighborhood that was an hour walk away.

There were so many people who asked specifically for this topic. We're going to read listener stories from all of you where you were haunted in New Orleans.

Very spooky.

Hey.

Hi. Welcome back, everyone.

This is Two Girls, One Ghost.

Two Girls, One Ghost. And we are your ghostesses. That is Corinne.

Hello.

I'm Sabrina, and we have an encounters episode. We I feel like the last couple

1:00

episodes of around this time when this episode comes out, we kind of have a theme going on.

And it involves one particular place in the United States.

One of the most haunted places, New Orleans.

New Orleans. NOLA.

I feel like people get very specific vibes visiting New Orleans. It's not one of those places that like people just visit and leave and it's just like, "Oh, that was a fun vacation." People leave either feeling really great about it, feeling like, "I got to move here." Or they're a little freaked out.

Yeah.

And I'll say I was a little freaked out.

[laughter]

I feel like before going, I had such an image and like fascination with New Orleans in my mind that I was like, "I feel like I'm going to feel like I fit in here. I feel like I'm going to belong here."

Mhm.

But then, yeah, it has some unsettling energy in certain places.

Right. I think it depends on like what your ability to pick up energy is and and your comfort with protecting yourself because I feel like some people they're like this is the perfect place

2:00

to be witchy and practice my whatever you practice. And some people feel really good. It's kind of like Salem where it's like yeah, there's a kind of like a spiritual hot spot.

Mhm.

And so does it serve you or does it not?

What's lurking in New Orleans, but what we do know is that a couple like not long ago we had asked people on Patreon like what are your favorite topics? What do you want us to cover? And like there were so many people who asked specifically

Overwhelming.

for this topic. So yeah, we're going to read listener stories from all of you where you were haunted in New Orleans.

Amazing.

Um

start? Do I start?

I can start.

Okay.

[laughter]

Yes.

Confidence.

That's That's correct.

[gasps]

Okay.

how many we've decided to read and figure out who goes first.

Right.

You start.

I think we have the same amount, but yeah.

Okay.

So when you think of New Orleans you think of vampires?

Mhm.

And voodoo.

Mhm.

So this is an email from our listener Vicky and it is called voodoo y'all.

voodoo y’all

3:00

Wait, can I already interrupt the story?

Please.

A listener sent I don't know if it was to my personal or to Two Girls One Ghost. Either way I saw it on Instagram. Sent a video of a guy talking about voodoo dolls and kind of more history on a voodoo doll. And maybe we'd learned this in the past, but I had no recollection of learning it if so. But he basically was like people

Oh.

Yeah.

You saw it too?

Yes.

So I I recently have learned this and it's not what we had ever heard before.

No, not at all. It was like basically like the the version of medicine and like practicing that was not allowed for a lot of different cultures and like races

And a lot of people didn't have the ability to write and read, yeah.

And so a lot of healers kind of like in secrecy who were working or just like didn't again like have a way to chronicle what was going on with their patients that they were treating because they couldn't write or read, used these voodoo dolls to like label them as their

4:00

patients and put pins in. Like, "Oh, last time we talked about your head. How is your head feeling?" Because there'd be a pin in the head.

And of course, the white man turned it into, "Oh, this is such an evil scary practice."

Well, I think with anything, things can be misused and abused.

Yep.

And voodoo has certainly been one of those things.

Absolutely. So, Vicki said, "Oh my gosh. That's how it starts. I had to email you guys as soon as I heard your latest voodoo episode. I had a very weird and scary experience after a visit to New Orleans many years ago. I will never put anything on a voodoo altar ever."

Wow.

And do you remember like in the shops where you can just put stuff? Yeah.

There we've read one story where someone took a penny off of a voodoo altar and was like cursed.

Mhm.

And then, when I was in New Orleans before you got there, my sister and I walked into a shop and I immediately was like, "Do not touch anything." I got

5:00

such heavy like intense energy that like I had to get out of the shop.

I remember that.

Okay. So, Vicki says, "A coworker and I went to a conference in NOLA and spent our spare time going to all the cemeteries and tourist sites we could. And we ended up at the New Orleans Historic Museum on a dreary rainy day. We were the only visitors, so we paid our money to the owner and we took our time looking at the skeletons, voodoo ritual items, and decor. And then, we came to the voodoo altar that had voodoo dolls, coins, and a bunch of alcohol on it. My friend tossed some of the coins. I did not. And these next two items might be unrelated to what happened later, but we exited the museum area and walked back into the front lobby, but the storm was too intense for us to leave. So, being the only visitors, we ended up stopping and chatting with the owner. He lived upstairs and said the apartment was haunted. I think the ghost was named Andrew or Albert, but it definitely sounded like this ghost was a trickster. Then, the front door to the museum flung open and a skinny, wild-eyed woman ran

6:00

in drenched from the rain. She ran up to the owner, frenzied, and said, "Satanic Bible. Satanic Bible. Do you have a Satanic Bible?" The owner was clearly offended and clarified, "This is a voodoo museum. I do not have any Satanic items on display or for sale." She looked confused and then just turned and walked out. Alby looked at each other being like, "What the hell was that?" Although I imagine in New Orleans, you probably are used to things like that if you own a shop like that.

if someone dripping wet coming in requesting something.

And like in a frenzied

Yeah.

concerned way?

Totally.

The rain died down, so we were able to leave. We said our goodbyes to this man and then flew home to North Carolina the next day. That night, I awoke to the sight of something huge [snorts] and dark next to my bed. I knew I wasn't dreaming and this thing had a human-like body with a huge chest, like a bodybuilder's chest.

Mhm.

It had a giant head with horns. Like it

7:00

truly reminded me of a character from Where the Wild Things Are, but if they were evil.

I'm thinking of American Horror Story, the guy who was like, I don't remember what his who he was supposed to be, but he's got kind of like the the centaur thing going on where he's got the horns, the human body and then some hairy legs.

Yep. This thing was breathing hard, its giant chest heaving, and I could feel raw anger emanating from it, but it never spoke. I'm laying there. I'm terrified. I shut my eyes and I prayed as hard as I could. I was so scared. I prayed a hedge of protection around my family. I rebuked this demon in the name of Jesus and asked Jesus to bind it and cast it into the abyss. I'm a very open-minded Christian who believes in a divine creator as well as ghosts, demons, positive and negative energies, and of course Bigfoot. So, I kept praying with my eyes closed until I finally felt safe opening my eyes again. And this giant heavy breathing demon thing was gone, and I've never seen it again. I never smelled anything weird

8:00

like sulfur, and it never touched me or spoke, but oh my gosh, you guys, it was terrifying. Surprisingly, somehow I slept well the rest of the night, but as soon as morning came, I told my husband about it. He had slept right through the whole entire thing.

Of course.

I told my friend as soon as I got to work the next morning, and she immediately regretted leaving the offering on the voodoo altar, which is interesting cuz you'd almost feel like the opposite. Where it's like if you leave something, then you're okay.

Well, that that's I think what we're saying. Vicki had an experience. She didn't leave anything on the altar. Vicki's coworker did leave stuff on the altar, but she she never experienced anything.

I thought you said her coworker regrets leaving something.

She regrets it, but she didn't have anything she never experienced anything. So, I think you are right.

you don't need to regret it. Like you're safe. You gave the offering.

But I think she's scared because of Vicki's experience.

they just shouldn't have gone in there at all. That's really the what [clears throat] the regret happening.

Or they both should have left an offering.

Right.

9:00

I have no idea if this is related to the museum ghost. My friend, my coworker never experienced anything, or maybe this was related to that lady who ran in, I don't know. Fast forward a number of years, I was watching Famously Afraid, which is a TV series about celebrity ghost stories, and actor Willie Aames described his son being terrorized by something in their house. Willie finally saw it in their yard one night, and it was exactly like the thing I saw in my room. I should say the TV show's depiction of that at least was exactly similar. He said after a research, he thought it was a Native American spirit. I don't know.

Hmm. That is kind of confusing, but also it could be any number of things.

Right.

It could just be something that likes to torture and mess with people.

That's what's hard about a space like New Orleans. And I feel like the same can be said for places throughout the world where there's a lot going on. Where it's like, does this belong to the land? Is this a historical thing? Is this a cultural thing? Is this something that's attracted to the

10:00

various energies that are happening here that just something

we've just completely manifested energy into and now it exists?

Or was there just someone on vacation at the wrong time the same time you were there and you grabbed their

demon.

The sisterhood of the traveling demon.

[laughter]

And it Vicky says, "I've always wondered if more than one thing affected the situation. My co-worker is a skilled photographer and on that trip took photos of a dead body that was visible inside a crumbling tomb when we were [clears throat] in a graveyard. Ironically, the same graveyard that Marie Laveau was buried in."

That was better than where I thought this was going. I thought you were just going to say like, "Oh, we just like saw it on the side of the road."

Oh, no, no.

"Oh, god." I feel like

That That's disturbing.

terrible.

No, there's She said it's not rare to find decay in crypts in NOLA graveyards, but looking back maybe photographing it was not a great idea.

Yeah.

Anyway, this thing was angry. I don't know why it came to me and not my friend, but I am glad that my protective prayers worked and in that it has never

11:00

come back. I love listening to you guys. Thanks for the awesome spooky stories. Vicky from North Carolina.

What if you, Vicky, have some sort of ability and you are the chosen one and the one that they need in New Orleans all of these spirits all of these demons to fight some battles that they have. And they were so mad that you finally came and then you left and so they were trying to come collect you again to go help them.

Well, maybe they need a different approach if that's the case.

That's true.

Because if anything that would make me never want to go back to New Orleans.

Yes. Although I feel like the show Sabrina did a good

The original or Chilling Adventures?

Chilling Adventures. I feel like they did a good example of like the all the familiars in that show were actually pretty scary. Like I feel like a lot of the rituals and different things that they were doing where it was like, "Oh, this is my practice. This is a part of like what I do and who I am and who protects me and who I serve." I was terrified in those scenes. Like this is

12:00

so freaky.

think Chilling Adventures they were for sure working with dark magic. They were working with the like the darker side of things.

Well, yeah, but I guess like

Yeah.

not everyone can work with the light.

[laughter]

If you can't work with the light, you must work with the dark.

[gasps]

Those are your only two options.

Yeah. [clears throat]

Oh, yeah, scary.

Very scary. Okay, I have a story that

crazy New Orleans cemetery tour

comes with a photo. This is called crazy New Orleans cemetery tour. My husband and I went to New Orleans October of 20 23 with our daughter and her boyfriend. We went on an evening cemetery tour. We believe in spooky stuff like this, but still look for every explanation to why something could maybe not be real. Well, another couple was next to us on the tour and everyone was snapping pictures. Then this thing appeared on the guy's phone instantly.

What?

What we captured was not a worker, it was not an actor, it was just us and the young couple on the tour. We showed the guide and even they were so freaked out

13:00

by the picture and said that he never witnessed anything like this in all of his years doing the tours. We thought of every explanation and because it happened right then, we knew that there was not a single person other than just us in the background.

Oh my gosh.

The next day we went to a stone and jewelry shop and we were talking about it to the workers. One of the workers was a little freaked out and actually started crying and was so upset.

What?

Yeah, very upset that we opened up the picture in the shop.

You work in New Orleans.

Everyone we showed the picture to said it's not real, those are actors.

Those?

Well, I don't know about those. I see one. Maybe you'll you'll see more. But we can't come up with anything to make us not believe. Sincerely, Brenda and Raphael.

Wait.

Okay. And do you see like behind the guy who's wearing like the blue name tag?

unsettling.

There's like a creature.

It looks like Samara.

14:00

It does.

Oh my god.

It looks like she's smiling. Ooh, I have the chills.

Oh.

But you can still clearly see everyone else.

She looks like she's in motion towards them. Like almost like her gait and her arms are like pumping as if she's walking towards them.

too.

I didn't even see that. Oh my god, that just gave me full chills.

can see everyone else's shadows. Not everyone, but you can see one other person's shadow.

I mean, to be fair, if she's a ghost related to someone who's buried in the cemetery, you don't really look your best when you're a corpse.

No. And now now your face is blurred and like

everywhere else. And this could be just a trick of the camera, but if you go to the second person in from the edge of the left photo, it like looks like there's just a person's face floating. Like there's no head or anything, but that might just be like a blurry picture.

That's what I mean. Like I feel like part of this photo is kind of blurry where like you can fully see that there's something behind this man.

15:00

It's almost like the spirit here is crisper than the actual people who were captured in the photo.

I'm so curious what cemetery this was.

Oh, and I also don't like not only does it feel like it's coming for the people in the crowd, but like it is the direct focal point of the photo. Like it is like it sees the camera person and it's like

I'm coming Oh, now it's making me think of that Korean film. Was it the Korean film where it's like

In the Polaroids?

Yeah, where they take pictures and

Oh, god. That one's so scary.

a Korean film.

I've only seen the like re- remake, the American one, but

Wait, also, I saw, I think it was whatever last episode we recorded, it might have been a regular episode, but we were talking about the Backrooms movie.

Mhm. [clears throat]

There's also a movie called Exit 8 coming out.

haven't seen

I want to say it's a It might be a Let me see where it's from. It's based on a video game, but it's like a liminal space film.

16:00

It's a Japanese film. It looks terrifying.

What's scarier, playing the video game or watching the movie? I kind of feel like the video game. You're most likely alone with your headset on

With especially with the video game, like you're almost like you are the one in it, where a movie you can be a little bit more removed.

Right.

And you have to be like focused in the game.

Okay, this comes out April 10th, 2026. It's soon. It really has a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Wow.

Exit 8. Okay.

Oh, spooky. This video, I mean, this photo.

I know, right?

Creepy.

Very.

matrix glitch

Okay, I have one about a glitch in the matrix in New Orleans, a time glitch.

Not surprised, but very cool. I feel like we don't often get these from Nola.

Hello ghoulies, my name is Julia. I have

18:00

lived in downtown New Orleans for almost 3 years now and always thought there was something mystical about nights out in the French Quarter. Now, I've only been a listener since this past summer, and I just finished episode 157 about the haunted military bases. So, I haven't heard about Sabrina's bachelorette party in New Orleans or your experiences yet, but I am sure you will be able to relate to this story. Since the first time I ever went out in the quarter, I thought time passed differently. Like 20 minutes all of a sudden turned into 4 hours, and then next thing you know, it's 4:00 a.m. and you would be somewhere and not even know how you ended up there. So, I've always joked with my friends about time passing differently in the quarter. But, I ultimately chalked it up to just being drunk. Even though I have never experienced anything like this in any other city I've been in or lived in until this past weekend, something happened. Last Friday, my friend A and I decided to go out for a night on Frenchman Street, our usual haunt since we love the live music and the vibes. So, we started our night at a club on Bourbon, and we had our fill, and we decided to walk to Frenchman Street.

19:00

Now, let me preface that I've done this walk from Bourbon to Frenchman and vice versa so many times at night that I could probably do it blindfolded, backwards, and blacked out. It is not a confusing walk. You basically just walk straight down Bourbon and at some point you have to cross Esplanade and then you're basically there. So, you guys tell me how I ended up in a totally different neighborhood so far away. That's why I really want to stress that the following events are so strange. So, we didn't make any turns off of Bourbon Street, but at some point we realized we were not on Bourbon Street anymore. My friend and I looked at each other like, this is strange. So, we opened Google Maps and redirect ourselves towards Frenchman. Everything looks vaguely familiar and like I've said, I've walked to this neighborhood so many times, so me and my friend were not too worried. But then, keep in mind we had opened Google Maps to redirect us, but we start walking and it feels like a lot longer than usual. So again, we realized we're off track. Except every time we tried to follow

20:00

Google Maps, we still ended up in the wrong place. Eventually, anxiety set in when I recognized where we were. In a totally different neighborhood almost an hour away from Bourbon Street.

Oh my gosh.

We had only been walking for a few minutes, but somehow we were in a neighborhood that was an hour walk away.

That is so freaky. No wonder Google Maps couldn't figure it out. It's like cuz you're not

through time. Rerouting, rerouting. "Should we call an Uber?" my friend asked me. I said, "No, I think I know where we are now." I don't know how we got back to Frenchman, but what felt like a few minutes later, we found ourselves there.

to walk an hour back?

Yeah. This is where we had wanted to end up originally. And at first I thought I was tripping, but both of us felt so weird. We ended up having to sit down at a Willie's for some fried chicken and fries to debrief. I've honestly never experienced anything paranormal. I didn't believe in ghosts until I started listening to your podcast because yay, pyramid scheme, which is why it struck me so intensely that I couldn't figure out what had

21:00

happened. Yeah, we'd been drinking that night, but we had done that walk so many times before and it really felt like we had lost time. So, the next morning I mapped out where we had walked based on my recollection and where we ended up and it would have taken an hour and a half, which in reality we were only walking for like 20 minutes.

It's like so wild to me to think like I'm just trying to think of like what actually happens to your body when you're going through these time warps. Like do you not feel anything? Does your skin not tingle or your atoms not coming a little too far apart? Like what's happening?

Well, clearly they feel weird. So, like it's messing with your mind if anything. I text my friend and we both confirmed how weird it was. I don't know. Maybe we were drunk, but I have this gut feeling and so does my friend that something mystical happened. Like for a moment we got lost in a matrix.

It's amazing that they were able to get back out

Also,

so

I saw on Instagram that someone I knew

22:00

had been robbed at gunpoint and their dog had been shot in the same neighborhood that we had gotten lost in. So, was some force protecting us so we couldn't make it accurately and go into these dangerous areas? I have no idea.

Like is it the neighborhood you were originally walking in or the neighborhood you wound up in?

that was my question cuz I was like if it's putting you at the scene of the crime

then it's like that doesn't feel like it's protecting you. It feels like something's trying to hurt you.

Right.

I love y'all and the podcast and I can't wait to hear all of your stories. You are so funny and relatable. I hope by the time I catch up to current episodes y'all have read my story.

Oh man, a lot has happened since

I know.

to your point of reference.

So, yes. Stay spooky. See you on the other side. Julia. And that was said in 2024. So, I I hope you're you're still listening and maybe caught up and now you realize yeah. That bachelorette, that was just the beginning.

a bachelorette.

[laughter]

That was just a girls trip.

That was yeah, girls trip. Themed girls trip.

[laughter]

23:00

The theme was bachelorette. It was a costume party where we pretended

Cosplay and pride. Yeah.

It kind of reminded me a little bit of what's like right over here. Do you remember we covered it the Lynn Woods reservation or something like that where people get lost and they have a lot of like lost time and people who like

they see people on the trail who are like trying to get them lost.

Yeah, like come follow me or I need help or the path is this way and it's just trying to get them disoriented and lost on the trails.

Scary.

It is freaky. Yeah, I am curious if it was some sort of protective Right. thing.

Or I mean, there's just so much energy there that I just feel like

Yeah.

some I don't know. Maybe it just gets confused sometimes.

Maybe.

like, "Oh, we can't remember which way's up. It's too many things to keep track of and whoops, you're in the wrong neighborhood."

Sorry, which is like so dangerous because

I know. Well, it reminds me of there's a street in Cape May, New Jersey which is the beach that I used to go to in the summers growing up. It's called Jackson

24:00

Street. I think I've talked about it cuz I think I did an episode on Cape May, but it's like supposed to be or it's said to be at the most haunted street in America, but people have had experiences like that where they like glitch in time. I don't think they've ended up in different areas, but like they truly transport through time.

I just can't believe we haven't figured out life in the world [laughter] given how many pockets and how many spots

Our P brains.

happen.

Literally. I don't think there's enough people investing their time and energy into it. Wait, I know this will be way past now, but did you see the like the first photos in 50 years of taken of Earth?

Yes.

I like cried.

[laughter]

Did you watch the launch?

I didn't watch it. Well, I ended up watching like afterwards. Yeah. And then I saw someone on on TikTok. TikTok is a beautiful place. It's also a dangerous place. I love it and [clears throat] hate it, but I saw someone post but they were on the on a plane and the pilot was like look out your window and they

25:00

literally got to watch I like [laughter] I

That was the one that got me emotional too.

the spaceship shoot off into space.

Because so I watched the launch live because I also wanted to know because he's into rocket ships so I wanted him to see it so he was like into it and then but watching the view from the airplane I was like it just puts everything into a different perspective because the space shuttle looks so tiny and they're going so much faster like they were going

[laughter]

so fast but they were going so much faster than it looks like they're going from Earth like when you're watching the videos of them taking off. I was like oh my god there are people on this like on this little Tic Tac that were just blasting off and being like

literally blasting into space.

And then I felt bad because all the astronauts were feeling really cold on board and they were trying to figure out how to stay warm. Oh [laughter] we're just little

His outlook wasn't working in space.

Two two hours weren't working but then also it's wild to me this kind of feels like a glitch to me because when you

26:00

look at the comments on the post of like like one of the astronauts did kind of a space walk outside of the spaceship to do some like work on the outside whatever and he filmed it on a GoPro and all of the comments are like this is fake AI and I'm like how are there so many people who don't believe this?

Well in in space and in like actual science.

Yeah yeah yeah. Right but man I should have done the moon landing is fake conspiracy already. I keep saying I'm going to do it but it's just so big yeah and it's convoluted because there's like some parts that if you trust what is being presented like you're like of course like they went to space and then there's other parts where you're like well maybe this one was in the studio to like add to the pizzazz of it.

believe the movie that came out

Oh, why am I blanking?

Yeah, I can't remember what it's called either.

Um

But it's about like the

27:00

I mean it's like a fictionalized dramatic version of it. Um

Yeah, does it have something about like the studio in the title?

Fly Me to the Moon. It's Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum. But I fully believe I love how we went from New Orleans to space

and conspiracy.

and conspiracies. I fully believe that just in case they did have a studio version of the moon landing ready to go.

Well, cuz there was just so much politically going on too that it wasn't just about getting to space.

And you also can't really rely You don't know what's going to happen.

No. But to your point with everyone saying like, "Oh, this is fake. This is AI." I do like it is becoming really hard online to differentiate cuz sometimes like most of the time I'm like, "Okay, I know when something's fake."

Mhm.

But every once in a while I'll look at the comments and people will be like, "AI AI AI." And then someone else will be like, "This came out in 2005. Like this is not AI. This is Like you can look it up from before."

28:00

I do appreciate everyone questioning before they just like trust it.

But now it went from being like everyone's tricked to no one believes anything at all.

No one knows.

Yeah.

Anyway, they're in space.

[laughter]

Or they were.

We've got four astronauts in space on the Artemis 2.

They're probably back now, right?

By the time this comes out?

Are they? So they're just going around the moon and back.

When they were taking off like

journey back to Earth after they go around the moon. So yeah, they'll be

Cuz they're not using like a normal

propulsion

Yeah.

or like engines. They're using

physics to get themselves back.

Science.

Science.

Yeah.

But when it was taking off, my dad was texting like, "Make sure you watch the launch." And then he texted again, he's like, "Karin, you're finally going to get to see the dark side of the moon."

[laughter]

You finally figure out what's on the other side.

Cuz conspiracies and aliens and civilizations and buildings and giant tarantulas. Okay.

[laughter]

I have no idea if that's a thing.

Yeah, definitely not.

29:00

It can be now. Who knows? What if I'm right?

Proof that I used to live on the moon.

[laughter]

I almost said conspiracy.

Planet Moon.

homophobic ouija board ghost

Okay. This is called Homophobic Ouija Board Ghost. I saw a rougarou while tripping on shrooms.

What's a rougarou?

New Orleans. I looked it up and it's a Louisiana term for like a swamp werewolf or monster.

I want to be a swamp werewolf.

Rougarou.

Wait, sounds like ragout. I'm just thinking of spaghetti. [laughter]

The swamp werewolf in New Orleans with his spaghettios and his ragout.

[laughter]

His ragout. Oh, yeah, just give him an offering of some spaghetti to go with his ragout.

Oh, I like this. Okay. Hi y'all, my name is Minnie. I hope y'all see this. I've loved listening to the podcast and y'all have reanimated my love for the paranormal.

You're welcome.

I can be a bit skeptical at times though. That's fine. I'm not a skeptic, but I do think anything is possible and perhaps many of these things do have reasons behind them, but some things I can't explain. First of all, my Ouija

30:00

board story. It was 2016 and it was my first year of college. I'm from New Orleans and I was at my friend's punk show that they were throwing at a small amphitheater on my college campus. Some DIY [ __ ] A girl came up to me from my girl gang. We're all maybe 16 to 18 years old. I was the oldest and the only one in college at the time, but we all still lived in New Orleans and we went to school in the area. I didn't move away for for college and all of my friends were a year younger, so they were all still in high school. The girl that came up to us had heard the music while walking back to her dorm and had to come check it out. She had approached our group while we were dancing and struck up conversation. It all happened so fast, but she winded up inviting our whole group back to the dorm with her. And I didn't really want to leave the show, but I also wanted to make a new friend at my school. So, we all walked back to her apartment to smoke weed.

Okay, I don't know where this is going, but I'm like, this is scary. How does one girl

A singular girl lure everyone?

Cuz I as someone who's trying to make friends as an adult, I'm like, well, I

31:00

can't go out to a bar by myself and like approach a group of girls and be like, "Hey, do you want to be my friend?" But maybe I can.

Yeah. It's also like it's freshman year

Yeah, when you're in college, it's a little bit

You're trying to make friends with everyone.

That's kind of how you make friends.

Yes.

Yeah.

Two of my best friends thought I was weird. Breanna and Marissa thought I was weird cuz we lived across the hall from each other and on moving day I like stopped in and struck up conversation and saw they had a big TV and I was like, "Oh, so movie nights here?"

They thought you were weird?

Yeah, and they were like, "Ugh." Cuz I invited myself over.

That's what I did, too.

[snorts]

Well, guess what? Now you guys are all my best friends. So,

You tricked them.

It works. They might think you're weird for a second, but

Also, being weird is great, so.

Just keep trying.

[laughter]

When we got there, several of her roommates and their own friends were all hanging out, smoking weed, and chatting. We weren't there for long, but someone suggested that we do a Ouija board.

College.

Now, the Catholic school to witchcraft

32:00

pipeline is real. So,

[laughter]

me and my whole girl gang, who had gone to Catholic school for high school, of course, were so excited to do the Ouija board.

this.

I was probably the most excited of the group because I was actually the only one who'd never played before. Now, there were way too many of us in this apartment to all put our hands on the planchette. So, I became the ambassador of our crew there on the floor of this empty dorm room. I think their fourth or fifth roommate had just moved out, so I do remember there being an extra room that was pretty empty. Anyways, I remember I was the only one in particular from the friend group that was actually touching the board. And the rest of the people playing had just met me, so they did not know anything about me.

Oh [ __ ] Okay.

We get to playing and I'm so excited. We make contact. Quickly, we ask the ghost some questions. I'm feeling antsy to speak directly to it, even though apparently only one person can speak with it. I'm asking it new questions before the ghost could even answer the last question asked, and this seems to

33:00

upset him. The planchette moves to B and then to I and now to T, and we had a guy in the corner writing down all the letters, so we weren't even really trying to figure out what it was saying. And then the planchette moved to C and you know what it's going to say. And I wanted to ask more interesting questions, so I'm speaking loudly and asking too many questions at once. So I'm irritating the ghost. And then it moves to G A Y and then back to B I T C H. Now, we weren't paying attention to what it was saying cuz the guy was writing it down, so I didn't know what it was spelling. All I was focused on was seeing the actual movement on the board. That is until the guy in the corner had to explain that the ghost had just called me a gay [ __ ] I was stunned. My friends are the only ones in that room that knew that I was gay.

Oh my god.

Everyone else had just met me. I hadn't said anything about being gay.

This spirit.

Anyway, that's the one time I used a

34:00

Ouija board and was outed by the Ouija board.

Oh my [laughter] god. Jesus.

Well, I'm curious, how did it end? Did they get more answers? Or did they stop after that?

I don't know. She just writes, "Okay, my next story is a little less homophobic."

Okay, well, I guess that was the most memorable part of the

Yeah. What a terrible terrible spirit. So I'm back home in Louisiana for the holiday season. I'm hanging out with my friend and she was one of the ones that was with me during the Ouija board experience a decade earlier. She said she had some mushrooms, so we took them. We had an amazing day doing all the things that we'd done together when we were younger, like walking the French Quarter, just tripping, stargazing on the bayou. I moved away a couple of years ago, and when I came back home, we had a tradition to spend the day eating charbroiled oysters and seafood on the lake and doing all the things I missed

So, the south away from home.

So, the south, yeah. And I love my city, but people from New Orleans know what it means when I say

35:00

the whole city is haunted. There exists in Cajun folklore the Rougarou, which pretty much all of the Louisianimals know about. Louisianimals?

Oh, is that like a fun term for

Like the animals

of Louisiana?

I don't know.

Learning new things.

We are. The Rougarou is a half-man, half-werewolf creature that exists to punish people who have not been good Louisianimals. Anyway, without even really knowing the folklore of the Rougarou, many can recognize when they come across him in art or memorabilia depicting his image. They know what's up. Well, my friend and I had the most amazing time tripping and gallivanting around the city, but eventually, after hours of this, we went back to hers as the shrooms had started to wear off. We sat on her porch with some bright pink tea and some tarot cards and candles and incense, just pondering our thoughts from the trip and getting cozy on the come down. And it was while we were out there on the stoop that we noticed him. In the corner of my eye, his distinct shape. Two evil

36:00

glowing red eyes. The Rougarou. Now, I know that I was still on drugs, but I don't ever hallucinate the Rougarou or anything crazy, especially while I'm peaking on the shrooms. At most, I just get maybe like funny-looking leaves or the feeling that I'm spiritually connected to the trees and the water and the moon, but this is weird. I am clearly, out of the corner of my eye, seeing the Rougarou. I turn, I look at him, and he disappears. I shake it off. I'm thinking, "Okay, LOL, drugs are weird, right?" But, as soon as I look down at the cards in my hand, there he is, again, in the corner of my eye. It's so weird. He remained there in the corner of my vision, clear as day, as long as I didn't directly look at him. When I would turn to look at him face-on, nothing. Just a house and my truck. Not even remotely a similar shape or color. And then, when I would turn back, out of the corner of my eye, there he was, the two glowing red eyes. As long

37:00

as I didn't look directly at him, I could see him. And he was stalking us. Very evil, taunting energy. And they warned my friend, who was also coming down from the shrooms, and she stiffened and got scared. But, this kicked me into protective mode, and suddenly, I wasn't scared anymore. I just wanted her to not be scared. So, I did regret telling her, and I did get the feeling that if I kept paying him attention, it would give him more strength.

Mhm.

But, again, I'm like, "Okay, wait, but I'm just tripping, right?"

Is he there for to punish? Is he like, "You are naughty, naughty girls."

I'm a little girl. I don't want to give him any incentive or power to come through, so I just told her, "Okay, let's not give him any more power, okay? He can't hurt her. He can't hurt us." I'm reassuring her. But, I did see him lurking as we did several readings and had several more pots of tea.

What the heck?

And it remained like that for hours, as we sat there on her porch. And at this point, I'm sober. So, finally, I make the decision, I can drive home. And I

38:00

know we were out there for hours, because he was standing in front of my truck.

Ah.

[gasps]

But, now that I'm not high anymore, I can still see him. I wanted him to not be in the corner of my eye.

Standing by her truck?

Uh-huh. But, he's literally blocking my truck, and therefore, he's blocking me on my way home. So, we We out there for even longer, just chatting. I erased her worries of him and she knew that I wasn't leaving because I could still see him and he was in front of my truck, but as it having been on shrooms earlier and now being totally sober, we were so tired and I was so ready to go. So, I stared directly at him and therefore at my truck and I told my friend goodbye and that I was going to go. Obviously, everything was fine, but I still think about that because how much of that was shrooms? How much was the other reality maybe bleeding into this one? Maybe I sound crazy, but regardless, that was the only negative experience I've ever had while tripping.

I mean, was he trying to protect you and didn't want you to get in your car?

39:00

Yeah, don't go too early. Make sure you're totally sober.

going to happen or yeah, making sure yeah.

Yeah, that you don't leave. And be what what did she call it? Like a naughty little Cajun or something?

Yeah. Yeah, don't be a naughty

You're making sure everyone's good little Cajuns.

[laughter]

I think the Rougarou has a bad rap. I think the Rougarou is trying to keep New Orleans safe.

Right. Anyway, that's from Minnie.

Minnie. Wow, those are two like really intense, very New Orleans or Louisiana specific encounters.

Uh-huh.

Wow.

Can you imagine being at college and no one knows much about you and you're in like a new friend group and then a ghost out you? You get outed on a Ouija board.

Like a homophobic ghost is like calling you gay [ __ ] That's crazy.

Unless Okay, what if it was a compliment?

What if it's like a gay ghost being like, "Hey bitch."

[laughter]

Yeah, like oh my god, you gay [ __ ] I love you. Let's keep talking.

But I But Minnie did say they were getting the vibe that this like spirit was irritated.

Right, right. Minnie was annoying the

40:00

spirit with all her

gut there.

questions, but

Damn.

This reminds me of um Oh god, what was the show? The Hulu show where it was a bunch of LGBT

Oh, with Ross?

Yeah. Ross was on it.

The ghost hunting show and Alex Le Mae was on it.

Yeah, we talked We've two of the people from the show on our show. But they were like promoting it as like the gay ghost hunting group or whatever.

Um.

But it just reminds me of the episode where

Living for the Dead.

Living for the Dead, yeah. It's not on anymore, but it reminds me of what Ross was telling us about how the like one of the spirits was so mean and like homophobic and sometimes it does come through when

and the dead are not two different.

No, unfortunately.

I'm at I started watching because now I'm a Bravo head, I started watching Southern Charm which is a show that's been on like I think 11 seasons. So I just started season one.

god.

Right. So like it is unbelievable. I am like cuz there's a couple of old men on

41:00

the show

Mhm.

who I'm like these are characters from True Blood. The way they talk, they feel like they're from decades ago.

Oh my gosh.

Thomas and Whitney, these the two on season one.

looking at Thomas. He definitely gives

But Whitney lives Whitney's like a grown man, he's like in his 40s, he lives with it this is season one of it. He lives with his mom. His mom is Parker Posey's character in White Lotus. They sound identical. That is so Whitney's mom has like a basically a butler and she's like, "It's time for my medicine." And it's the same voice as the character from White Lotus. And her medicine is a like gin martini.

[laughter]

It's wild.

Is the Real Housewives is that a Bravo show?

Did you start watching the Rhode Island one?

Mhm.

Cuz I don't watch any Bravo shows. So I don't watch any Bravo shows, but I'm kind of interested in watching the Rhode Island one just cuz I

And it's the first season.

42:00

understand the culture.

You can start now, you don't feel like you have to catch up to a bunch.

Right.

Yeah, I'm going to say I really think you should. I think it's such a good escape from all of the other crap that's going on in the world, and it's dramatic, and it brings the people together. I'm not kidding when I say like I am texting so many people about like the Bravo drama, and I feel like it's brought It's Summer House on

mhm. Okay, I'm going to need you after we finish recording to explain to me what's going on cuz I just keep seeing it on the internet, and I I don't have enough background or lore to understand what's going on, but I don't like being left out.

That's why I really think you should start becoming a Bravo head.

Maybe this will be my post partum

This is what you do. Yeah.

No, but like even if it's just like a late night turn on the TV, yeah, Noah's gone to bed, and you just need something in the background cuz you don't need to watch every single moment of it.

I wonder if Brian would like it. He might. I think cuz we we've watched the reality shows like the um

43:00

Like Love is Blind?

Love is Blind, Love on the Spectrum, and then the like real drama ones.

The drama is juicy.

I got to become a Bravo head.

You really should.

Okay, well, back to New Orleans.

Anyway, I like this. In between every single New Orleans story we talk about something completely off topic.

Completely off topic.

The moon landing, Bravo. [laughter]

You get it all with us. We are very four-dimensional people.

We've got depth.

[laughter]

Talk

[gasps]

I feel like Bravo and depth are like the not in the same sentence ever.

Listen, celebrities love Bravo. Rihanna loves Bravo. Jon Hamm loves Bravo.

Poor Jon Hamm. Well, actually, I don't know anything about him other than when he was in the press about how big his weiner was.

I don't think that's sad for him. I think that's that's the news you would prefer to have

Yeah, I guess.

regarding your male appendage. You would prefer that over the other.

I'm just thinking like if I were in the

44:00

news for having a big ass camel toe, like that would

That's very different.

[laughter]

That's very different. Those are two very different experiences.

That's the only time I've ever like That's That's my word association. Johnny and penis.

[gasps]

I mean, he knows what he's doing. You can tuck. This is like the catching print thing that people keep talking about on the internet.

What? Catching print?

I don't know how to do it cuz I haven't watched enough videos, but

it's like a new thing where there was this gay man who was like, "Ladies, you've had enough time not understanding how to identify the size of someone's penis before you sleep with them." And it's all about

Mhm. Interesting.

observing the area in the pants.

But that's not a real indicator. Some people are showers, some people are growers.

Totally, but that's the thing that that has taken over the internet recently. Catching print is what it's called.

people have a big undercarriage, but not much member appendage. Underwear. Anyway. What?

Okay, back to New Orleans.

Some people have very little underwear,

45:00

but giant balls.

[laughter]

Is what Sabrina is saying.

Tiny underwear. I know what that means.

Big old balls. Them testes, man.

Oh, man. Okay. Everyone look at Keren's

makeup today. Doesn't it look radiant? She's shining. It looks so good. What are you using?

French Quarter hauntings

Well, [laughter] this is from our listener Christine. Hey ladies, my name is Christine. I'm writing from the ever spooky New Orleans. My 9-year-old daughter Florence and I have a couple of stories from the ever spooky French Quarter in New Orleans.

I feel like we should start signing off that way.

Ever spooky.

Sabrina and Karin.

XOXO.

Ghost girls.

something romantic. Something charmed about it.

Yeah.

Ever spooky.

Well, there was there used to be like the ever yours, mhm, you know?

And never yours.

[laughter]

That's how we should sign off.

Yeah, never yours.

So, Florence became a huge fan of y'all when I was listening to the podcast in the car at after school pick up. You know, some kids love Taylor Swift, but

47:00

my kid loves you. I I I love being compared to Taylor Swift in the same sentence.

[laughter]

So, this first story is from Florence and her story takes place at a school that used to be in the French Quarter. Mhm. This school was built in 1727 by the Ursuline nuns as a school and has a rich history that you should totally look into. But Florence writes, "Hi, my name is Florence. I'm nine."

Hi Florence.

Hi Florence.

Everyone say hi.

Hi Florence.

Hi Florence.

I'm nine, so all these events happened pretty recently. I've experienced normal things like moving objects, hearing voices, getting pushed down a hill. Mom pause. What the [ __ ] You were pushed down a hill? How? Why? That's not normal. I need to ask questions. I'll get back to you on that. Okay, back to Florence. I'm going to start talking about the school ghost and this first incident happened when I was in kindergarten. My friend who I'll call M and I were going to the nurse's office and like always the the nurse was not there. I

48:00

swear M and I saw the most terrifying thing. It was this five to six-year-old looking girl and she was floating. She had this look like she had seen a murder. M and I bolted out of there terrified. Then the second story happened in the bathroom where what we call the plessy ghost hangs out. I was washing my hands like normal when the same ghost appeared but this time she had a blank face like she was in a staring contest and then she disappeared and I felt possessed for a second.

What? Oh my god.

Florence's experiences.

All at school.

Mhm.

Now Christine says, "My own story is about the time I adopted a trickster little ghost spirit while we were living in the French Quarter. So the kids were going to school in the quarter and I worked in the quarter so we would walk among the spirits of history every day. It started with my keys moving and I'm a creature of habit which comes with working in kitchens and being a parent. I had dropped my keys in the exact same bowl that I always did. Nothing new. The kids and I were about to head out for our three block walk to school when I

49:00

could not find my keys anywhere. I promptly accused the kids of taking them and they insisted they didn't touch them but I knew I had left them in that bowl on the table. We started the search for the keys which turned up in front of a closet that I avoided because this closet gave off bad vibes. So with the keys found I just moved on. Thought nothing of it. A few days later at 6:00 a.m. I turned on the water kettle for coffee cuz I have to get those kids to school and myself to work so I'm not paying attention to the kettle until all of a sudden I notice something gray bubbling away in my kettle. I opened the cover and there was a freaking slug boiling in my water.

What? This is so gross.

Which it's not unusual to find slugs by the doors of French Quarters or ground floor apartments, you know, 300-year-old buildings with giant gaps. I looked for a slug slime trail but there was nothing, and I was pissed. So, I decided I needed to talk to my spirit.

Yeah, that kind of feels like a threat.

And also, so gross.

Yeah.

50:00

Ugh.

It almost feels like a fear hallucination, where it's like something's trying to

It's like It's Pennywise.

[laughter]

Drink slugs.

So, I started boiling more water in a saucepan for my coffee because I wanted to show Florence the slug, as you know, all good spooky parents of spooky kids do. I stood at my sink and put on my sternest mom voice. I told this newest little kid spirit that he was free to move my keys, appear, climb in bed with me during a storm, but he was not allowed to mess with my coffee. Boundaries. I explained I was more than happy to have him as part of my family, [clears throat] but he was not allowed to mess with the kids and do no harm. As I write this, I'm realizing that I never gave him a name, and I know that he was a little boy because he appeared to Florence one night in the hall. She told me very matter-of-factly that she had seen a little boy in the hall holding his breath and making swimming motions with his arms.

Mhm.

I asked if she was scared. She said no, and we went on with our life. The last experience we had was a sweet one. I was

51:00

having a bad day when my speaker, my Alexa speaker in the front room, all of a sudden turned on. My son was in the bathroom, and Florence was in the kitchen putting away groceries with me. So, I assumed maybe my son had turned it on. I went up to the front room, and I heard music playing. The speaker was playing a Saints football game, and I could never get the speaker to play the game. So, I thanked my son for turning it on, but he told me he didn't, and that he didn't even know a game was on. So, I thought maybe my other ghostly son turned it on. I thanked him.

Wait, is he the same one with the slug?

I guess so. I mean, that is like kind of a kid prank.

Yeah, I guess.

Or like totally a kid playing with a slug and is like, "What do I do with this now?" and just puts it in

if I drop a slug in water, boiling water?

Also, this ghost kid, I I to think that he let the hamster escape because I couldn't stand the creature and he was doing me a favor.

Honestly, I feel like he was doing the hamster a favor because hamsters sometimes have horrifying deaths.

Do they?

Well, oh.

I feel like that's like the classic thing where like a lot of people who've

52:00

had pet hamsters, their hamsters have died in horrific ways.

Yikes.

Just like with escaping their cages or just like getting a little bit

It's just

Well, I feel for the hamsters. This little ghost kid let the hamster free.

Yeah.

That school that Florence talks about in her story is half a block from Lafitte's blacksmith shop. So, y'all were really close when you visited. I hope you visit again. All the best from a spooky mom with a spooky daughter, Christine and Florence.

Dang. I mean, I feel like so many schools are haunted, but I can't imagine going to one in the French Quarter.

In like the heart of spookiness, Louisiana.

I kind of wish I did.

Did she get possessed for a second? Or was it just like a trance cuz she was so startled? Or like when the spirit disappeared and then she felt like

she was possessed for a moment. Like, was it going through her?

Ooh.

Like it was leaving the room and floating through Florence.

Well, I'm also worried for that little girl.

I know, I do, too. But, the little ghost

I want a daughter [laughter] so I can name her Florence.

But, I do feel concerned for that little

53:00

ghost girl at the school, too, because she looks horrified.

Yeah.

And why is she stuck there?

I don't know. Little Moaning Myrtle situation.

I guess we have to look up the history of that place because sounds like it's haunted.

Yes, totally.

Dang.

What isn't haunted in New Orleans?

These poor children, they go to school, they have to face so much. They're all scared.

Or they're lucky.

Or it depends on how you look at it.

Like, I would love to be like, yeah, I went I grew up in a haunted school.

Right. Also, like their encounters are during the day.

Yeah, that's true.

It's like

They don't have to spend the night there.

They just had lunch and recess and then they get a paranormal encounter. That's That is a full delicious day of activities.

I played with the ghost school.

Yeah.

[laughter]

I'd rather a haunted than like a possessed home.

I agree.

Yeah.

Cuz then you have a safe space to go home to.

If you chose possessed home, I have concerns for you.

[laughter]

Okay, the last story I will read is

two haunted bathrooms in NOLA

called two different haunted bathrooms in Nola. Sorry for being nasally. It is

54:00

post-nasal drip. Hot.

[laughter]

Snot running down these throats over here.

Hey y'all.

My name is Hannah. I recently found your podcast over Christmas break and I've been binging ever since. I'm married to a super cool guy who is super spooky, but also a little bit superstitious. So, he doesn't like to speak spooky in our house or about our house.

Speak no spooky.

He has seen hooded creatures

Oh, [ __ ]

La Llorona in Mexico as a child, and he's experienced way more visually. And he'll back all of these stories up, but only if you catch him off of our property.

I agree.

I appreciate that, yeah. Okay, to get to the point, he bought a 110-year-old house almost 2 years ago in Ohio. I say he because I was behind in Texas with our then infant daughter trying to sell our condo. So, he chose this house himself. The vibes have never been bad. Actually, it's a super cool place, but it definitely, since the beginning, did not

55:00

seem empty either. It also has a [ __ ] terrifying unfinished basement, which is just the worst. And I've also seen flashes out of the corner of my eye while I'm in the kitchen cooking, but then when I peek around into our dining room, I see that there's nothing there. Okay, and then our creepiest room. It's this teeny tiny half bath between the living room and the kitchen. The door is also right next to the door to the creepy basement. It also is right across from the back door. This sounds exactly like my my uh half bath. And it's in northern Ohio, so it gets really cold in the bathroom because there are no vents. The lights started flickering, so we replaced them. One of the lights still flickers, but not constantly. And there's also no rhyme or reason as to when it flickers.

Hm.

So, one night I was standing in there and I asked, "Is someone in here with me?" And it flashed on and off. Of course, I thought, "No [ __ ] way." So, again I say, "If someone is in here, can you blink the light twice?"

Oh my god.

It went blink, blink. Okay, I got

56:00

terrified. I instantly turned the lights off. And then a couple of days go by and I find myself in there again. Only one light bulb is working and I ask, "Are you someone attached to me?" Nothing. "Are you someone I know?" Nothing. "Are you someone attached to this house?" Triple blinks. We also just had the whole house redone with electric because, you know, it's a 100-plus year-old house and they didn't see anything wrong with the bathroom wiring.

Cuz there is nothing wrong with it.

[sighs and gasps]

We also smell, kind of at random times, some off scents, like a floral perfume or some random cigarette smoke, even though we've never smoked. I heard my 3-year-old daughter talking one day. I was in the kitchen, I assumed she was just playing with toys and so I poked my head in to look at her, only to realize that she was not in the living room. She was actually in the bathroom with the door closed, whispering. When I asked, she said she wasn't doing anything. Nothing big, just lots of little weird stuff happening.

[laughter]

Also, I heard my husband walking into

57:00

the bathroom, open the door, cough, and so then I said, "Babe, what are you doing?" And then I heard his voice answer from the living room. I said, "Wait, did you just walk into the bathroom?" And he said, "No."

Ooh.

Okay, that could be like a creepy doppelganger situation or I just feel like the energy in this house, there's something about it that holds memories.

Or is it like the original couple or something?

Yeah.

You know, cuz there's the perfumy smell, which I would attribute with a woman, and then there's a smell of smoke, which if the perfume and the smoke doesn't come at the same time, like maybe it's two separate

spirits

spirits. And like feeling like it's a a man walking in and coughing. Maybe it was a smoker. Maybe it was the OG guy who built the house.

Huh.

Okay. A few years ago, my whole family was in New Orleans for my little brother's wedding. We're from Baton Rouge, so about 50 minutes away. We were all staying at the same hotel, the Omni in the Quarter. My brother was getting married at City Park, but we thought, "Oh, this will just be fun for all of us

58:00

to be together for a weekend in the Quarter."

Mhm.

The Omni is this super old-looking building.

Why is every Omni haunted?

I don't know.

Like the one in Boston is.

Yeah, it is. And it's home of the Boston cream pie, if you want to go get the OG.

Austin, Texas is haunted.

Uh-huh. You're right. Should we look into this?

Yeah, it's like the Omni owner like being like, "Let's collect haunted hotels."

That's what I was just thinking. Like, "Oh, we're going to make this like this beautiful, lovely, fancy, luxury hotel experience, but really it's all hiding." They're buying up spots that they want to paranormally investigate and turning it into hotels for them to stay at whenever they want.

It's like the perfect combo.

That is the perfect cover. Okay, the Omni is this super old-looking building, but it definitely has been remodeled. A lot of the rooms had balconies, but the doors to the rooms were very old, very heavy. So like so heavy my Mimi could not open it by herself. [laughter] So it was hard to prop these doors open while running between the rooms to get ready for the wedding, which is an important detail for later.

59:00

Okay.

I was eight months pregnant, but I was still down to walk and dance and eat. We had a great weekend celebrating my brother and his lovely new wife, but a couple hours after the wedding, I was just exhausted. I was swollen from the summer humidity, and my husband, my grandparents, and I headed back to our rooms around midnight, while the rest of the party took to Bourbon Street. I put on our AC, I put it as low as it would go. I stripped down to my panties, I propped my feet up on a few pillows, and I fell right to sleep. Sometime around 3:00 a.m., I was jolted from my sleep. My first thought was, "Why is my husband leaving the room?" But at the same time I had thought that, I could also feel him next to me in bed.

Ooh.

So I reached my arm over to shake him, and he was also sort of awake. We both had just seen someone walk into our room. And then we heard them walk into the bathroom. We saw the hotel hall light fill the room. We heard the old heavy

1:00:00

door open and close. We heard and saw the movement of someone walk into our bathroom. And so my husband, Manny, jumped out of bed in just his boxers, ready to fight, and ran into this bathroom. He turned on the lights and nothing. What the heck? He came back out to check on our room just in case somehow this person had slunk into our small hotel room with us. He threw on a robe. He ran into the hall, but there was no one there. So we, still assuming that this was an intruder, or the hotel had given our key and room to someone accidentally

I've had that happen where I get a hotel room key and a room, and I go to open I open the door and like someone else's stuff is in the room.

Yeah, I've had that happen.

Yeah.

Like once or twice, too.

Yeah.

You're like, "How is this happening?"

Right.

I'm glad that I've never been walked in on like that. It's always been us

the deadbolt every time you go in.

in on someone else's room and being like, "Ooh, this is clearly taken."

Oopsie. Yeah.

Weren't we together when we were on tour?

Maybe that was

that happened when we were on tour.

It probably did.

So we called down to the front desk.

1:01:00

They assured us that no one has had access to our room at the time, and we were the only ones on file for this room. I thought, "Okay, maybe possibly it was a family member who'd gotten our room key somehow." So then I open up Find My Friends, and everyone is still out on Bourbon Street.

But they were

My 80-plus-year-old grandparents were not physically able to run down the hall and prank us like that. Nor were they the kind of people that would do that. So, we kind of panicked. And of course, we were wide awake thinking that we had just skirted the death of a murderer. Of course, the worst case scenario playing out in our heads.

Well, yeah, like I would think a human being walked into your room, too.

saw

Yeah.

and heard Like aside from someone not actually being there when you check, you like everything else is

And And they both saw a human being.

Mhm.

Yeah.

Okay, so we're up. We're scared. We Google the Omni Hotel French Quarter and then we start reading reviews to see maybe if someone else had complained that their room key had been given out by mistake.

1:02:00

But we didn't find that. What we found though was New Orleans top 10 haunted hotels. And our jaws were on the floor. Apparently, the Omni is built on the ground of the old city exchange, which is a nice way to say slave auctions.

Mhm.

Then the original hotel burnt down and it's said to have a famous ghost. The ghost of a housekeeper who comes in and will go to the bathroom and turn the lights on and sometimes even the water.

Woah.

So, needless to say, we did not sleep through the night.

Wait, that's such a specific

Yes.

like known haunting, yeah. That's kind of nice to have found that.

Yeah.

Cuz it is verbatim, it's like copy and paste what people experience.

I feel bad that they like couldn't fall back asleep after this.

We finally got up at 5:30 a.m. We walked down to Bourbon Street to our parking garage and we went the [ __ ] home.

[laughter]

Back to your haunted house.

[gasps]

Where you know the ghosts.

I have so many more ghost stories including a haunted house that I grew up in, seeing the antebellum woman in our hallway, deceased pet visits,

1:03:00

a demonic mini horse.

more before we start to attempt to peer pressure and bully you into sending more.

Jacques Cousteau's.

Mhm. No, you haven't really.

haven't.

You sent one other.

So, we can bully you.

Which was our Encounters number 304. I'll just read it right now cuz it's like two sentences long.

Okay. Bonus.

[laughter]

And we have another bonus after this.

So, short story, but y'all were talking about a girl who moved into a building that was haunted in Salem, and Sabrina said something like, "You never know what your neighbors are doing." And my headphones went full blast. Which, okay, tech glitches sometimes, but our house is over 100 years old and it's haunted.

1:04:00

And our next door neighbor, that house, it's been vacant for years before we moved in. Someone just moved in last year. They just bought the house and then moved in the middle of the night at the beginning of the summer.

Ooh.

And then someone else moved in a month ago. And we have never seen nor heard them. Except at night.

Vampires.

After dark, you just hear this rhythmic banging on their walls. Was Sabrina warning me?

What are they doing?

Okay, Hannah, we've read both of your stories now. Now you can send us more.

Spooky.

[laughter]

Damn. Well, we love New Orleans. And New Orleans is haunted, and you all have been haunted in New Orleans. And I feel like if you go, you're likely to be haunted.
