It's my birthday wish that we drink wine. So, it is the classic wine and ghost story pairing. Yes.
If you will.
It was whispering something in my ear that I couldn't make out. Getting out of a lake kick something and when he grabs it, it's a head. I saw his fingers go inside of my skin.
Well, this is my favorite night of my life. Cheers. Chin chin. Yeah. Yeah.
Very spooky.
Hello. Hi. This is two girls, one ghost.
Two girls, one ghost. And lots of wine. We're on location, baby.
Midnight Merllo, Midnight Margarita Style. This is Karen.
1:00
Hello.
And I'm Sabrina. We're your ghostesses. And this is a very, very special encounters episode. It's technically my forcing Karen to spend time with me outside of her home.
Your birthday wish for me to drink with you. So,
what better place to drink than the bottle shop in Beverly, Massachusetts, a local haunt.
The best wines. And I found it serendipitously. I fully believe it. There was one day you and I were recording and you kicked me out.
I have things to do.
I was like, I have more work to do. I don't want to go home. I'm going to find a cool coffee shop in this area. And I found the bottle shop, which I walk in here. And Alex, the owner, is just sitting at the like desk at the
drinking wine and reading a book. I was like, "This is the vibe." We became friends. And what better friend than someone who owns a wine shop
and so graciously is allowing us to use the shop after hours.
2:00
After hours
in the dark
late at night.
But yes, it's my birthday wish that we drink wine and Alex prepared
an entire wine tasting menu that we catered ghost stories around.
Yeah.
So it is the classic wine and ghost story pairing. Yes.
If you will.
Sabrina made this really pretty. She worked with Alex to make these.
So, I texted you and I said, "Bring the Zoom, our microphones, and a Midnight Merllo attitude."
Yeah. So, I went into storage and I grabbed out the only floral dress I own, which is my maternity dress, and it actually fits quite nice.
I thought you were going to say your sto your midnight Merllo attitude was in storage.
Oh my god, it was. I had to dust that baby off. I look like a hunchback because the dress is long sleeves and I tied it in and kn on my back. You can't tell. Wait.
Well, it's because you're looking at my front. Look at the back.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah. No, she does. Ken can can confirm. That's what I'm
3:00
We might can can later. We'll see how this wine hits.
We're just be running around with a bunch of fragile wine bottles. Yeah.
Doing the can can. I would love to see that. All right. We're going to make Kren do that. So, with that being said, uh, cue the first wine.
cue Alex with the wine
Yes. Let us introduce Alex.
The first wine Alex has prepared for us.
This is your moment. Don't mess it up.
Just if we were really good at visual effects, picture smoke and then Alex appearing. Poof.
Say hi, Alex.
Hi, Alex. We are uh going to drink a Christina rosé. Uh this is an Austrian rosé. Uh bright, juicy, fresh. Uh made with swel.
Amazing. Made with what? So I don't
I don't know what that is.
It's a grape.
Oh, okay.
A fresh juice.
I'm learning about grapes now, too.
We're learning a lot.
Beautiful. Also, a little bit about the bottle shop so that everyone knows. Um,
4:00
thank you.
It is a really cute little wine shop in Beverly, Massachusetts.
It's not that little. There's a lot of wine here.
There is a lot of wine and
but it feels the vibes are cozy.
Yeah, very cozy. Yeah, there's also poetry that like all along this wall there's poetry for sale. So, highly recommend stopping by, checking out the bottle shop and saying hi to Alex, who says hi to Alex, too. And you can do this ghostly wine tasting if you come into the bottle shop.
rose & witchcraft
So, thank you, Alex, for one of my favorite types of wine, a rosé. Mhm.
Bright cherry fruit and playful acidity swirl together in this rosé born of warm days and cool wind. A nod to hedge witches, moon rituals, and women who speak to the land. And this story pairing is going to be about witchcraft and folk magic.
Well, now we have to try the wine.
Yeah, I forgot. We have to also drink.
Cheers.
Ching chin.
I could tell I was going to like it just
5:00
by the smell of it and like the breath of it.
Does that ever happen to you? like where you know if something's gonna be good or not.
I've actually had this brand before, but I've had their white wine. Also really love that.
This is delicious.
Very good.
Craft read your story for us.
Okay, this was a good one. And I told you earlier I was like I'm so excited for the rosé cuz the story I picked is woo. All right, this is called bruh haria or just a two-year flare up. Any guesses on what the flare up is
medically? Oh, it's a medical flare up.
Yeah.
Larger boobs.
That would be a great one if you eat a lot of eggs.
It happened to me for a moment with the eggs and then they shrunk again because Dunkin Donuts got rid of um or because Duncan, sorry, got rid of their veggie egg white bites. See, eggs make your boobs bigger. Hello, Ghost Girls. It's me again. I just love your podcast. And me again is also named Alex. And surprisingly, this is not Bottle Shop Alex, although I would love that to have
6:00
been the reveal at the end. I just love your guys' podcast. I was listening to your cursed AF1 and I was like, "Ooh, I have another story for you guys."
I haven't really told anyone the story because I'm not sure anyone would believe me, but I know that you guys will. And so, this is really exciting. Okay, insert smooth transition here.
We're still trying to master that.
Yeah. Two years ago, around September, I woke up with really bad aches all around my body. I brushed it off thinking that maybe it was just my new job or stress. My boyfriend had just moved in, so I thought maybe he accidentally was laying on me and it was getting worse.
You know, that casual accidental being laid on situation.
I was no longer able to get up from bed without feeling like needles were piercing my joints. My fingers started to get bent and I was like, "Yeah, this is not normal." So, I finally decided that I should go to the doctor and I described to them my pain. It's like someone has a doll of me and they're just pinning needles on it. That is what I said because my pain would just travel. One morning my foot would flare
7:00
up and then the next morning it would be my neck and then the next morning my whole body. So they took blood work and they could not find anything wrong. But they saw how inflamed my joints were and gave me a referral to a rheatologist which took a whole five months to even get in to see. Around this time, I got into three car accidents. I broke like three phones and I began fighting with my boyfriend about everything.
Oh jeez.
I got into a really bad place because I was no longer able to do the ADLs and I had to get a lot of help. I had to quit my job. I just turned 21. I couldn't party. I couldn't drink. I couldn't do those types of things with my friends. My mom and my dad were worried about me and thought someone did bruh hara black magic.
I love that this is a story where the parents immediately jump to that
witches,
right? Rather than oh, it's just your imagination.
I said witches like as as if people listening think that we think witches are I don't have to explain myself. You guys know
you guys get it. If you don't get out of
8:00
here, you don't belong here. you can't share Dunkin Donuts and move enhancing egg white bites with us.
They thought someone did black magic on me because everything that was happening to me just seemed like it. They went to actually go talk to many witch doctors and one of them told them that someone had made a doll of me and had buried it somewhere. Anyways, I did not believe them because who would ever do that to me? The rheatologist finally saw me and diagnosed me with RA. So, rheumatoid arthritis. I think that someone buried a doll of you.
Yeah. She prescribes pain meds that worked wonders, but I refused to take the treatment because I just had a feeling that I shouldn't. I continued living with the pain and I just became way more depressed. One day, my sister got home and she was so excited to see me because she had just gone to see a soarero, which is a person who massages you, kind of like a chiropractor, but without a license. It's a Mexican thing. Haha.
9:00
her husband had messed up his leg. So, they went to go see if this Soadero could put it back into place. Anyway, she starts talking to this guy and telling him
his leg back in place.
I guess I'm picturing it like literally like Barbie dolls just starts talking to this guy about my situation and he's really taken aback and told her, "This is not the only power I have. I can also receive messages and your sister does not have rheumatoid arthritis. One of her friends has done bruharia. Bruharia, sorry. had no idea about her.
No,
I've never been this close to you while we're recording. I just
I realiz I got to touch it.
That's because we were we decided that we're getting a couch cuz we can't touch in our current situation like more touching.
Physical touch is important to us.
He said that one of my friends had done bruhar on me and to bring me to him tomorrow because he promises that he will help me. She told me all of this and for the first time ever I got really excited and something in my heart just knew that this guy could help me. I
10:00
remember telling her I'd rather believe that someone did bruharia bru I can't say this word bruharah
bruharia bruharia
bruharia you're saying it wrong
on me rather than having a chronic illness for the rest of my life. So I decided yeah I should give it a shot. So this is where it gets crazy. The day before my birthday I go to his place. His house had stairs that I needed to climb. And I'm terrified of stairs because it's just really hard for me to climb. It really hurts my knees. Remember this part.
Okay. So, he gives me this tea. He's just observing me. He's telling us stories all about demons that he's seen and how he found out he had powers and all the people that he's miraculously cured.
I want to talk to this guy, right?
We can if we just go to this like
That's true.
I guess he has like a real place, but I'm picturing as like, you know, like there's a dirt road. There's like a little sh like a porta potty. You go like a magical entrance to this like shack in the back where this guy fixes you. Yeah,
but he doesn't mention anything about what my sister had told me. So, at this point, I'm getting pretty bummed out because I thought that nothing was going to happen. But then he tells me to lay
11:00
in a bed. This guy is 5'2. He's 74 years old. He starts popping my joints back into place and it was the worst pain I have ever experienced in my entire life. Like, I was literally screaming like someone was killing me. And then he moves to my chest and he mentioned something about having heart problems, but he says, "Hey, he can fix it." I kid you not, I saw his fingers go inside of my skin. I thought I was tripping because all of the pain and what was going on. So, I close my eyes and then suddenly it's over.
Inside of her skin.
Yeah. Still no mention about black magic. I get dressed. I feel refreshed. Then he says there's one last thing he needs to do. and he puts his hand on top of my head and tells me to close my eyes. My legs start shaking. I start feeling uneasy suddenly and I start screaming uncontrollably. I fall to the floor. I am just screaming and then I start bursting into tears and I just could not breathe anymore. I have
12:00
my eyes closed the entire time, but my sister said that when I lost air, he was doing some sort of like twinkling motion with his hand and whenever he did it, I would gasp for air. It's like watching an exorcism being performed.
Yeah. Until finally I was able to breathe again. I cried. I thanked him because I felt like I'd finally been freed. I sat down and he said, "One of your friends, it doesn't matter who now and it's better if you don't know, did this to you, but it's gone now." I got to my knees and I said, "Thank God." I was able to leave those stairs without any pain or discomfort. My birthday was in June. It's now October. I'm going on five months without any pain. I was in pain for two years and for the first time ever, I am painfree. Finally, I can party and drink with my friends. And the craziest part was, remember when I said that I saw his finger go inside the skin, like in my body? Well, when I got home and I took my shirt off, there were spots of blood all around my chest area,
13:00
but no openings in my body. This guy performed surgery on me. My dad told me a similar story happened to his dad. And it's crazy to believe that I still have a hard time believing that. But just like there's bad magic, there's good magic. And thank God for the good magic.
Oh my god.
Truth is stranger than fiction. And there is some crazy [ __ ] going on around all of us. We're just too scared to believe it. Thank you so much for giving me an outlet to tell the story because it is a crazy one. And thank you for reading Love, Alex.
Well, this is my favorite night of my life. Doesn't this kind of remind you of remember I covered that story and I can't remember the name of the woman but she was there was like a whole house that used to be like a nunnery or something and she moved in. She was adopted by a doctor who like taught her all of these things and then she grew up and like was this old lady who was practicing
surgeries and organ replacements and all these doctors and people came to
Not a listener story. This is from Mexico, right?
No. Yeah, this is from Mexico. This is
14:00
like an actual story that
the witch house.
Was it called the witch house? Yeah, it was like something like that. It was called the witch house because of her practices.
But doesn't it look like a witch's hat or something like that?
Oh, yeah. Yeah, it does. Yeah, you're right. But she was doing that. She said that she was like
kind of had like a demon partner like
someone from the other side or it was like some Aztec warrior or whatever from the other side that was helping her do these
like spiritual but actual like physical surgeries. But isn't that so crazy? Well, it just makes me think also of like of alien abductions where people like see some sign of something having happened, but there's no like bloody wounds,
right? Well, because just like in the witch house, like it would only take a few hours or a few days to heal versus months. And it sounds like this, like there were no puncture wounds, but there was dried blood, like evidence of where his fingers went in.
And she didn't even know that she had heart problems. I don't think she didn't say that
cuz it probably would have evolved even like it would have gotten worse and worse. My thing is who the heck
did this to you?
Yeah, it's hard. I'm sure he was like,
15:00
"You've already gone through enough and I don't want your whole life to unravel."
Also, is he able to know who did it?
Well, he said it's best if you don't know.
I don't know.
I feel like I would want to know.
Oh, I absolutely cuz you have to cut that person out. But then is that
kill them with kindness? I would kill them with kindness.
Angry.
This has been fantastic. Like I just listened to you tell me a ghost story while drinking an amazing glass of wine. I
This one's really good.
Very content with life.
I'm going to buy this on the way out.
You should.
Yeah, I will. I really like this one.
I said I was going to take one sip of every drink. Wait, the first one I'm already
Oh, yeah. I should go.
Keep talking in the glass. That's good.
Wine, too. You ready?
We're ready.
Should we snap?
Smoke.
Salsa. ectoplasm coming down from the sky. You see, everyone close your eyes. Close your eyes. Just picture ectopplasm.
Why does that always sound so disturbing? And
oh my gosh. Whoa.
What is this one? Oh, I need to finish this.
Equilibrium.
16:00
Very, very, very low intervention wine making, but still make really excellent wine. I do not know how they do it.
Are you drinking these with us?
I am.
Fantastic. Wait, I have questions. Can you come back,
Alex? Alex, do you go to different wineries and taste the wines?
No, usually have reps come here and then they taste the wine.
I was here one day and I was just hanging out and Alex pay me a glass of wine. Then all of a sudden someone comes in with like a rolling cooler and Alex was like, "Do you want to do a tasting?" And it was like 2 p.m. I was like, "Yes, I do."
Yep. Do them at 2.
I was like, "What a dream."
It's pretty great. Unless you're hung over
and it's not great. So,
is it awkward if you don't like it and you say, "No thanks." No, I just tell them that's nice and then we move on to the next one.
Oh,
you also don't have to commit in the moment, right? You can be like, "Oh, yeah." Yeah,
we do an order later.
You can ghost them later.
You can ghost them.
Damn you.
But you pick some good ones. We're We're already
very into it.
orange & dreams
Should we taste this one first? And
17:00
before I should we be um somalier and
before we read the description
that I wrote earlier?
Smells like an orange
wine. Smells fruity. I
actually love orange wine. I didn't try orange. Orange wine and green wine.
I haven't had green wine.
Portugal.
Oo.
Oh yeah. Unlike any other wine you will ever have.
That's really refreshing.
It feels so bougie to have orange wine, too.
Why does it taste like a blue moon to me, though?
It does.
Yeah. Like it has that same like citrusy
interesting. You know, I feel like a lot of orange wines I've had before taste fuzzy and this one doesn't. This one's a lot more crisp. I like this.
I think we have really sophisticated palettes.
Mhm.
Actually, now that I read the description that again I wrote earlier, uh, this makes a lot of sense. Okay. Apricot, wild flowers, and a soft tea tannin grip like twilight in a forgotten garden. But sip slowly because this wine
18:00
lingers like a dream that doesn't quite end. So tonight we are pairing this with not just a dream but a nightmare.
Oh god.
Okay. So this is from our listener Lydia and it is called headless horse woman.
Also just like a quick side note. I've been noticing when people pose with wine because I've noticed every single time I take a picture with wine I hate the way I look cuz I'm always like or I'm like holding the thing like this and I've been noticing I'm watching people's hands. Yeah, that's a good one. the pinky up.
Where'd you learn that?
And I've also been seeing a lot with it.
Oh yeah, I guess it is the pinky up. People going like this
and then they like lean
like this.
So not the way that I have been doing it. So how does this look?
Soft smile. Just lean to the side.
You're so good at a soft smile. I am not.
It's cuz I Well, I'm actually shocked at that because I was going to say it's cuz I had braces for a couple years, but you had braces for like full teeth. it.
19:00
That's why my smile's so big because I had to get to get my lips over my braces.
So, I expose all my teeth when I smile. Now, Lydia says, "Hey, this is a true story. I talk about it with my mom all the time, and I would love to hear your thoughts on it. It's been almost 11 years, but I remember it like it was yesterday. Throughout my childhood, I had a vivid recurring nightmare. Before everything peaked, I had assumed it was because I was just an anxious kid.
The nightmare was this. I would always start out swimming in a lake. It was the same lake every time. And in my dream, there were concrete steps that led from the elevated shore down into the water. When I decided to get out, I would swim over to the steps and begin to climb them. At that moment, without fail, every single time I would kick something. When I pulled it from the water, it was a human head. She had long, straight gray hair and brown eyes.
Oh my god.
20:00
She was old, but not decaying. It was almost like she wasn't even dead.
I would then drop the head back into the water and run to shore. From there, the dream would always lead me to ending up being followed by this same headless woman around town. She would follow me to the supermarket, to school, and would always hang out in different parts of my house. My nightmare was that I could not escape this head. It's also wild because usually you wake up at a really scary part of the nightmare, but this just like kept going.
Yeah.
So, I had this recurring nightmare often between the ages of 5 and 12. And then one day at 12 years old, it was in the summer, it all came to a peak. My mom likes to collect antique mirrors. Every single mirror in our home is antique. And in particular, we have a full body mirror at the end of our hallway, which the frame is made out of wood from a barn from the 1600s. It's truly beautiful. has been passed through my family. One day, my mom and I were getting ready to go to the pool. I had my tankini and a memory foam flip-flops on.
21:00
I had a bag of Cheetos in my hand.
Vibing.
That's like basically my vibe this summer.
Yeah, that and doing the can can.
Yeah, K [ __ ]
Yeah, you are more cotton than you are can. I feel like I'm can can. You're going to do the splits.
I can do the splits. Give me another glass of wine and I'll do it. I'm wearing shorts on tour. She did split the lock.
You asked me to do this. It's like dance monkey dance, but it's like split. Sabrina split. I'll do it. Okay, here she is. Cheetos in hand. My mom left a few minutes before me to go outside to check the mail. So, I was the last one out of the house. And on my way out, I stopped to look at my very iconic outfit in this full body mirror. Now, to preface, I have always been sensitive to the paranormal, so I usually can keep a calm head about creepy things. But when I turned to look at myself in this mirror, I saw a woman standing behind me. She was a bit taller than I was, wearing a dark gown with a high neck and some lace trimmings on it. She was old and had long gray hair. Her eyes were
22:00
brown and she did not blink. She just stood there staring at me in the mirror. I instantly recognized this woman. It was the same woman from my dream. My only other thought after realizing who it was was, "When I turn around, do I want someone to be there or not?"
The panic only set in when I blinked my eyes and she was still there staring at me in the mirror. Instead, I decided to turn and dart for the door, not caring if someone was there at all. I ended up falling down the front steps, spilling my bag of Cheetos everywhere. This felt like the end of the story for many years because I never saw the woman again. The nightmare stopped and the mirror was moved. And it wasn't until my grandpa passed away. We were going through his home. We found lots of photo albums and I spent days in trance looking at photos I had never seen before, including a photo of a group of people standing in front of a barn. Remember the mirror is made out of a barn. This barn had been on my grandpa's property as he raised
23:00
cattle, but it had been completely redone before I was born. This was a very old looking photo. All of the women were in high-neck gowns and the men were in suits with pocket watches. Everyone was unfamiliar except one woman. The exact woman who had been haunting me my entire life. My mom and I were shocked. We don't know who these people were in the photo, but we assume they had something to do with the original property. My mom then did a deeper research into the property itself, preparing to sell it, and found out that the barn had almost entirely burned down, and the restoration happened to make it usable again. That was the barn our family mirror came from. Nothing like this story has ever happened to me again, but I will never forget it, and it sends chills down my spine every time I tell it. I'm just hoping that mystery woman's ghost has found peace. However, I have decided I will not be inheriting that mirror when it come when time comes. Love your videos and the stories you tell. Lydia from North Carolina.
So strange. I'm I'm trying to think of
24:00
like who this woman is and what she could possibly like why is she appearing as the head.
It's so graphic. It's like she's getting out of a lake and kicks something and when she grabs it, it's a it's a head.
It's the head of the woman
and the head follows her in the nightmares.
Yeah.
Like did like sadly did she get decapitated?
That's kind of what I was wondering. And I was also wondering like is this
what if her body's in a lake?
Oh, interesting. on the property.
Lydia, is there a lake on the property
or nearby like within a mile walking distance? And do you know for certain that none of your relatives murdered this woman?
Yeah, I feel like she's trying to tell you something. It's a really creepy way to tell someone something, but
yeah. I got to pee already.
Should we take a pe break?
Yeah, we have to break the seal.
Can can time.
Little Spoon Ad
Introducing a variety of foods to a child when you've never had a child before. Honestly, it's very intimidating. Brian and I were like, "We need a little help from our friends."
25:00
And our friends here is the company Little Spoon. We order every two weeks. We get a whole shipment of like puffs, of smoothies, of now we do the toddler meals. We started with like the small bites, which was really helpful for peace of mind of like Noah not choking and having appropriate sized little tasting bites. But now he's got he's got full on like cakes and pancakes and scrambled eggs and sausages and like everything cheesy pasta, everything. It's so good.
I love because so Little Spoon is great for all ages of your child. They have baby blends which I have purchased for Delfina. So like she's starting to taste foods for the very first time and then they can like they progress with your child's age. I would lie if I didn't say I sometimes take sips of his pouches too. No idea. I'm like, "This is mom showing an example of how to use a patch, but really I'm just like,
this is delicious." Yeah. And plus, did we mention it comes right to your door? So convenient.

broke the seal
So much better. I broke the seal.
Yes, fresh glasses, freshly empty.
We did so many splits. You missed it. Can't believe you.
I know.
Weren't here.
We did it like right up on the mirror. Whoa.
On the mirror. That would be so one. It would be a strange visual,
but then it would also be very important.
That's what I meant. But it doesn't mean
I meant like by the window where everyone's going by like I was just picturing you like be like taking a split. But I said something different. Different meaning.
You went like when cats sit on glass tables and you can look underneath. I don't have a cat. I didn't know that that was an activity you do
because Well, it's very cute because their little toe beans you can see.
Oh, the toe beans.
But then people have done like tests of like does their BH actually their balloon not actually touch the glass and it doesn't. There's a little pocket.
27:00
Does it air pocket?
Mhm.
Depends on the cat, I guess.
Yeah.
Anyway, let's go back to ghost stories.
The cat, the closer that the less air pocket they have,
the less the air pocket. Um, should we do our next line? We shall Q Hugh Alex.
pinot gris & dopplegangers
Hello.
Hello. Where do you keep coming from?
The left.
This is uh Lover Girl from Cash and Release. They're in Anderson Valley. Really, really, really cool wines. Um I call this a penogree of personality.
Waited a little bit with some honeysuckle and it is delightful.
Okay, let's give it a sniff. Okay, pretend we don't remember what Alex told us.
I don't. So,
I remember the word honeysuckle and personality.
Wow. That personality smacks you in the face.
Oh.
In a good way.
I don't know if it was cuz we've already had two glasses, but I feel like I could chug this.
I really want to be a bad influence and tell Brian that you're not going to make it home tonight.
Chug it. Chug it.
Call Noah. See if he gives you permission.
28:00
Okay, I'm going to go again. This wine, the description is sharp, mineral driven, full of electric tension. I feel
I feel them on my tongue.
Oh, do you?
Yes. You know when you drink like a mineral water and it feels like
Oh, it has like
little sparkles on your tongue. I feel that.
She plays innocent, but she's layered with secrets. That's her personality. One sip and you're staring into your own reflection, wondering, did it just blink before you did? I'm pairing this wine with story of doppelgangers. Okay, this is from our listener Sarah and it actually is two stories. One of them is a doppelganger and the other is a mysterious angry man. Okay, how the light just turned off. Alex claims that this place is not haunted. However, we are. Maybe it's a warning about this story. So, as I said, maybe it's a warning about the story. Okay, the light will remain off.
29:00
All right. Well, the lights don't want to be told what to do and maybe they don't want us to read the story, but we're going to do it anyway,
but we carry on.
So, this is from Sarah. Hello. Great job on the podcast.
Thank you.
Thanks. We try. Doppelganger at Devil's Lake. When I was in my early 20s, I was in a very unhappy relationship and I was not taking initiative to improve my situation. So, one weekend we decided, me and my unhealthy partner and I decided to go to Devil's Lake State Park in Wisconsin with some friends. It's quite beautiful there with decentsized lakes surrounded by hills and cliffs and a hiking trail. And Devil's Lake is a very popular spot and I had been there a handful of times. Anyway, we hiked around the lake and afterwards I remember standing on the grass looking out at the people who were on the beach. There were several people, but there was one woman that I will never forget. I don't think she saw me, but I saw her. She looked exactly like me, down to my height, my build, my face, my smile, and
30:00
slightly offkilter jaw. Well, all of the ambiance of our lights has gone. But this the wine shop looks great. So,
yes,
if another light goes out, the whole power on the whole strip shuts down.
I would be very concerned if that happened. Okay, back to doppelganger. She looked just like me. She even moved and walked like me. The only difference was that she had longer hair and she had a beaming smile and she was toing a 2-year-old on her hip. She may have had another kid and a guy with her, but I don't remember for sure. All I remember for certain is her and the child. And it was in that moment something switched in my brain. I knew that if I kept continuing down the path that I was on, I would never get to be her.
Oh. I broke up with my ex a month or two later. I still think back to that day and wonder if the universe was showing me what I would lose if I kept being the passenger in my own life. It also crossed my mind that maybe I don't know, maybe she looked nothing like me and it was all in my head that I was trying to think of a message that I needed to hear
31:00
and that was how I saw her. But now I am happily married and I look forward to one day returning to Devil's Lake after we have some kids. Maybe I'll be able to see through a wormhole or something. My hair is also longer now. Close to the length of the woman I saw. Isn't that a really cool story?
Really lovely doppelganger story.
I know. So, I don't know why the lights don't want us to tell these stories. Maybe it's this one that I'm about to share.
Oh god. Well, with the doppelganger story just now, I'm actually shocked because I feel like most people see doppelgangers of other people and they very rarely see of themselves.
And it is interesting to see that it was like themselves but like in the near future. But you're not like I think that's like such a big thing about doppelganger stories is in in the lore you're not supposed to see your your own doppelganger. Like there's something really bad that will happen.
But this felt like the same way you theorized that perhaps you're haunting yourself to take care of yourself that
which was like so it was like the age gap was so much that I didn't even make
32:00
the like the connection,
right? So I wouldn't have called it like a doppelganger as like a visitation from future me. But it's almost like when Sarah is at this pla phase in life, she will know to go back to Devil's Lake because she needs her younger self to see her.
That is a trippy thing cuz it's like then do you have to do that or not? Because it already happened.
It's like go back. Does that erase like what?
Well, Sarah said she loves Devil's Lake. She's going to go back.
Okay.
All right. So then Sarah's second story is not so nice. It's called Mysterious Angry Man. When I was 19, I was in a vicious cycle of self-sabotage and hatred towards myself. This, of course, bled into my relationship that was toxic from the beginning. Well, it was a late night and it was pretty clear and I was on my way home in my car crying over the phone, talking to my ex at the time. I don't remember what I was upset about, but mostly I think I just hated myself and the situation that I was in. Not wanting to worry my parents if they were
33:00
still awake, I thought it was best to pull over to the side of the road to calm myself down a bit before letting my parents see the emotional mess that I was. This road that I turned on to was a country road in the country near my parents road that I had traveled down a million times. There's a small cemetery on the corner of that road and some train tracks a little further down. I parked somewhere between the train tracks and the cemetery. There are a few houses in the stretch, but all of them have pretty long driveways. Anyway, as I was talking on the phone, all of a sudden, I noticed a man walking down the side of the road in my mirror. He was walking towards my car.
I paused. I stopped saying what I was saying, and I told my ex, "There's a man behind my car." I had no idea what he was going to do, but when he reached my back window, he started violently hitting the back window of my car.
Oh my god.
I hit the gas as hard as I could and hoped that I hit him with some gravel. But when I looked back in my mirror, he was gone. I did find out recently that there had been a train crash right near that spot where sadly people had died.
34:00
Oh no.
Whatever it was, man or ghost, his intention was definitely to scare me. That is for sure. I still wonder about that night and what the flip it was. There were no bars around. It was a really quiet street. I don't know
who it was.
Which makes me think like he was looking for help, but
not in an aggressive way. Yeah,
especially that's from uh Sarah.
Sarah
like it feels menacing the way he like slowly was walking towards the car,
right?
And then violently was hitting
slow but maybe like didn't appear injured. I don't know. But like the part of me that wants to be positive about it because it is so scary and like knowing about the train crash, it just makes me think like when you're in such a like delirious state after experiencing something traumatic. I imagine like everything around him is foggy and he can barely like see cuz he's trying to get his wits about him and then suddenly like a car is in front of him.
He's like, "Oh my god." And like banging for help.
That's really nice of you. I think it
35:00
was violent and I think
it was aggressive and
thank goodness Sarah's car was still on.
Right. I know. The fact that he he was gone immediately,
right,
is weird,
right? ghost. And all of our lights turning off is definitely not their batteries being dead, but ghosts.
It could be ghosts because we charged these.
Yes, they are.
They were fully charged. So, they should both of these lights like they turned off because they're dead. But they should be on for hours and they have been on.
They didn't even last an hour.
No. And they can go for hours because when we first started recording,
we like hadn't plugged them in and we were like just keeping them on for hours at a time when we were recording. But we know how long they go.
That's very weird.
And ghosts notoriously
drain stuff.
Alex, your shop is haunted.
Totally nonchalant about it. Don't care.
Cool.
Alex's ghost story
Have you seen a ghost?
36:00
Wait, do you want to come over here and tell the story?
And bring the line.
There we go. Well, the wine has already been It's being brought.
It's being brought. Um, I don't think I have. I may have. Um, when I was really little, I was uh I don't know. For some reason, I thought it would be fun to sleep with my head at the foot of the bed. So, I fell asleep and then I just shot up in the middle of the night and was just staring at the end of the bed and I saw what looked like an old lady from like this far up, but it didn't like just go away and I didn't and I knew if I looked away I would not know if it was real. So, I sat there and looked at it for like five, six seconds and then I got really scared, went under my covers for the rest of the night. It was a ghost.
You don't think it was a ghost?
I don't know.
How old were you?
Probably like five.
But you weren't expecting to see anybody.
No, I was not. It was a scary old lady, which reminds me of the night hag, but
Right. At least she wasn't on top of your chest.
37:00
That's Well,
did that happen to you?
I have sleep paralysis on occasion. It's not a sleep demon.
Okay, Alex, you're haunted. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you.
I'm happy to be the ones to tell you.
I kind of wish I was. I really hope there's
You are.
Okay. What happens with this with the sleep paralysis?
When I sleep on my back sometimes, um I think my tongue relaxes and blocks my windpipe.
Sorry.
I like that you're trying to rationalize it already as you tell the story.
Well, it still feels weird as hell. So, like, and then obviously like I'm suffocating, but your mind's telling you to wake up, but your body is still asleep. So, it's like I just can't move. moving. I'm just like I'm suffocating, suffocating. So, they tell you to like wiggle your fingers eventually, but you always wake up gasping and it is not fun.
Do you see anything?
No.
Interesting.
NOCD Ad
I feel like OCD is such a misunderstood diagnosis.
It absolutely is. And I would know because when I was 14 years old, I had
38:00
to go to therapy for my OCD and learn all of the ways to cope with it. And I feel like the way it's portrayed in media and how people are always like, "Oh my god, you're so OCD." I'm like, yeah, but that is not what OCD is.
No, OCD is a very serious and highly misunderstood condition. And we're grateful that we are partnered with NOCD because it feels like there's now a place for people to go to get treatment.
Mhm. So, one of the things people with OCD might experience are your good old intrusive thoughts. Like for example, when I became a mom, I was obsessed with the idea that I was going to fall down the stairs or just throw my child down the stairs, which was not at all a possibility, but it was just like allconsuming. It's overwhelming, but with the right kind of help from a specialized therapist who truly understands what you're experiencing and is trained to treat it, OCD is extremely manageable. And at NOCD, every therapist deeply understands OCD. Plus, no CD accepts most major insurance plans and is covered for over 155 million Americans.

NOCD makes sure that you are supported between sessions with powerful in-app tools such as therapist messaging and communities. If you're ready to get help from a therapist who truly understands OCD, visit nocd.com to book a free call. That's ncd.com.

You guys are drinking Jolade Glutap. Uh, you sound like German.
Glue. Glue.
Glue. Glue. Glue in French means glug glug.
So, it is a very drinkable, chillable, quaffable, lighter styled.
Oh, it's chillable.
Yeah.
So, we should drink it. We should gug it.
Yeah.
Just enjoy it.

we always do. Oh, it smells so good. It smells like strawberry rhubarb pie.
Oh my god, that does smell really good.
It literally smells like strawberry rhubarb pie. It smells exactly like that. Damn, that's smooth.

I was like, "What?"
Can I buy a bottle of this radish?
Okay. Oh god. Spirits and science at Gettysburg. And this is from Anonymous.

Oh, that's true.
You're welcome.
Have we ever drank before?
I think we have.
Minus the twisted teas.
We definitely have. We used to record late at night and I think we would

All right. I'll hail the queen ghouls of
43:00
the most hot podcast of America. Crispy baby. On the most recent Halloween episode, you brought up Gettysburg, so it finally felt like the right time to write in my story. My story takes place at one of the most haunted sites in the States, the battlefield of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. We got to go. Yeah. Never in my life did I think that I would live here, but it turns out that the universe put me here to continue on the right path, showing me signs along the way that this was where I needed to be during this period of my life. So, what's wild is I found you amazing women through National Park After Dark, the Gettysburg collab episodes. I've always believed in the paranormal, having a healthy fear and respect for the spirits and other entities that encompass this world with us. But building up to my move to Gettysburg, I was absolutely terrified. I had this sinking feeling that I was going to be haunted and everyone around me constantly joked that I would be.
I feel like that's how it starts. Like, everyone joking you're going to be haunted like makes it more real. Being nervous to open myself up to the other side and in order to mentally prepare a
44:00
little exposure therapy if you will, I decided to listen to Two Girls on Ghost and National Park after darks. Gettysburg Gettysburg.
You can tell we've been drinking the wine. This is not fake wine.
I imagine if we faked this ever, guys, we can't buy food dye. I needed to know what I was getting into really more of what I could possibly experience living and sleeping in the battlefield grounds. So, I started with a lesser scary sounding episode on your channel and then I ran an errand in a car and I put on the National Park After Dark episode where you two shared the supernatural side of the park.
I was going to say ours was less scary. That's But I Yes, I understand.
The way the collab worked and no [ __ ] within 5 minutes of listening to this episode, I'm at a stoplight and I look at the bumper sticker on the car in front of me and what does it say? It says Pennsylvania ghosts. That seemed a bit too much of a coincidence, seeing as I dripping around this area so often. I've never once seen
45:00
that school mascot bumper sticker before. Okay, universe, I hear you. My [ __ ] ass is going to get haunted. Got it. My best friend knew that I was terrified of encountering a ghost, so she went to her local witchy shop. Hell yes. Supporting local small businesses.
Also, what a good friend.
I know. She went to go see if she could find anything that might make me feel more at ease once I was moving to Gettysburg. Once I was there. So she chatted with the shop owner who happened to be a clairvoyant and who instinctually knew that she was looking for something protective not for herself but for a friend.
Love that.
Yeah. My friend responded that yes, she wanted to get me some small things to protect me and set intentions while living in a home on a battlefield. And the woman told her that she had visited Gettysburg many times before and that she always felt such heaviness in the air, which I feel like people always say it's like it's riddled with ghosts, but like
it's it's the heaviness of all the deaths.
Yeah.
She said she felt more sad and confused souls than malicious ones there. She
46:00
suggested that I go about my day and maybe talk out loud to them, play music for them. She also mentioned that I should bring a bowl of salt to put on my nightstand near the bed that I would sleep in to help protect me. And my friend gave me a small bell to put on my door that would help disperse negative energy and disrupt anything from fully operating, a candle with a protective spell, and two small protective crystals. Can I just say right now, I'm proud of myself because to protect my home from our office,
I on the door knob of the door, I strung up all the bells that were rung, antique bells that I collected over time that were rung at mine and Brian's wedding. Yes.
ceremony because it's like it's good energy
and it's beautiful decor
and it's protecting maybe not enough because Noah seen ghosts outside of the office.
But is that just Noah?
Yeah. Okay. Now, I'm not religious, but I am spiritual and I believed in the power of protection for my ancestors, my spirit guides. So, to represent that, I brought my grandmother's small angel
47:00
that had Catholic prayer on it. I also brought a small dream catcher to put on the door as an extra precaution and always wore my turquoise rings. So, flash forward to move in day. I'm right on the battlefield. I first entered the home and I set my intentions. I said I only wanted positive energy in the home and that if I was in the bedroom, that was my safe space and at night they could come and go through the home as they needed so long as it was not scary and not disruptive. I wanted to be respectful and I wanted to be respected. Once settled in, unpacked, I was terrified to fall asleep. I set out all my things that my friends gave me. I tried to feel a little bit more at ease. I put them on the nightstand or my bed. I laid down to read and I was just so exhausted that I finally did end up falling asleep without realizing it. Lights on and all. That's when I had the thought that I had woken up. But turns out it was sleep paralysis. No, this is the first time that this happened to me. And I'm thinking, of course it [ __ ] happens here in Gettysburg. I can't
48:00
move. I can feel the presence. And out of my periphery, I see a shadowy figure. It was whispering something in my ear that I couldn't make out,
but it was also gently pulling my hair. I then actually was able to move. And as soon as I did, it was gone. The spirit did not feel menacing. It did not feel dangerous, but just present in the home and letting me know that it was there. My best friend who had given me protective tokens later came to visit and I had refrained from telling her about my encounter on the first night of living there. So I wanted to see if anything might happen to her. So we went to sleep and then the next morning I went to her room. I sat on her bed. She woke up and I asked her anything happened last night and she said yep felt something standing near me. Gave the bed a little shove like what's up [ __ ] Welcome to the house. Over the time that I lived there, I never felt threatened in that home. But late at night, especially near 3:00 am, I would hear all sorts of things.
Interesting.
They would always wake me out of a dead sleep. Some nights I heard screams.
49:00
Some nights Oh,
that's so sad.
I know. Some nights some small tappingss on the side of the house. I swear I once heard a musket go off. These might be residual hauntings. Other times, things would move around and once my soap disappeared. I literally have still never found it. So random.
Did the ghost need to clean themselves or were they trying to get some extra long peep show while I looked for it in the bathroom?
They didn't have soap on the battlefield probably. So
this side may never know. In all, I had an amazing experience in the town that now holds a very special place in my heart. If any of you decide to visit, like our ghost say, always make your intentions clear.
And hey, you never know, the town might also give you signs like finding a piece of clothing at a thrift store from your alma mater. that is 600 miles away in a small ass school or the only book facing out in the shelf is of the next historical site that you just interviewed with.
That is really cool.
The universe gives you signs in such
50:00
cool ways,
right? So signs that you're meant to be on the path that you're on.
Y
listen to the signs and the spirits and see you ghouls on the other side.

Xoxo Gossip.
Gossip Girl. It does seem like the spirit, especially because it was the first night and it like aside the whispering is strange, but the like pulling at the hair and the just like being present is a very much like, "Who are you? I'm checking you out."
Yeah. Well, it's like her friend's head. It was like, "What's up, [ __ ] Welcome to the house."
Yeah,
we're we're roommates now.
I love this friend as well.
Should we do the next one?
Yeah.
I've just gotten to a place where I'm like, "Let's keep reading ghost stories.
Keep it rolling, babe.

Yeah, it is.
A wine born of unusual fortune. No frost, just long rains and a peaceful season. But forlor and hope echoes like an epito. And sometimes the land remembers more than we do.
So we're going to pair this with stories of haunted land. Actually, I wrote haunted land and cemeteries, which is very appropo for this story because it's from our listener Sadi. And it is called
52:00
Haunted Cemetery Property. Succubus, Ghost Kid, Shadowman. Hey friends, at least we are in my mind. You're the best and I listen to you religiously. Your friendship reminds me so much of me and my best friend and it makes me feel so warm inside. I have a toddler as well. So, I just want to say Karen, you are kicking butt. You're an amazing mama.
Thanks. As I check the Nana camera like underneath the table is Noah.
I'm a little concerned cuz he doesn't seem to have moved an inch since I put him down two hours ago.
He's asleep. That's good.
Breathe, man. Breathe. Let me know. So, on to the spooky. I live on a 9 acre property in Northern California in a tiny little blip of a town. There's not much to this town besides a general store, a post office, a farm store, and a cemetery.
And I happen to live buted up right in front of the cemetery. Coming from the east coast, West Coast cemeteries never really do it for me because I will always be a cemetery goer. There was a
53:00
large one in Maine where at high school that was our hangout spot. That was a weird It sounded whistly.
That sounds It's very different than recording in our studio.
Yeah.
But this cemetery had something very special. There were pretty old graves dating back to the 1700s and it survived at least two fires that I know of.
So, this property is pretty large and we have a couple of different living situations in different areas of the land. When we were closest to the cemetery is when things got a little weird. When I first met my now husband, I stayed in the back near the cemetery, and it was the first time in my life I ever had sleep paralysis. Nothing too eventful, but obviously being the first time, it was frightening and a little weird. When I told my now husband about it, he explained that there were a few ghostly things that happened to him, but only back near the cemetery. He had heard a little child's voice saying, "Hi, mama." and doors slamming. We are big fans of the paranormal and have tons
54:00
of other experiences. So, this was like, "Oh, cool. A ghost kid. We love him." But, we didn't stay back there for long until fast forward a few years ago and our son was born. He was a young baby, maybe a few months old. And we got a new trailer and put it in the back. And that's when we started to notice our son staring at one tiny corner of a trailer, constantly looking there and smiling.
At least he's smiling. He'd babble at what seemed like somebody else. Simple stuff. But then it started getting freaky and my husband started having these really weird dreams where he would be in a decrepit old house. He'd walk into a room with a soft velvet couch and this drop deadad hottie was lying there naked. Slowly he'd walk over to her and start to kiss her and then all of a sudden that hot woman would turn into a disgusting creepy old green hag. It's kind of like, well, she wasn't old, creepy, and decrepit, but like American Horror Story where it was like the young sexy maid and then it was just like an older woman instead.
He would have these dreams over and over
55:00
again, and they were the exact same every time. I couldn't breastfeed our son because he was born with a cleft lip. So, I pumped for six solid months. I would wake up every two hours to go pump at night. At first, it was fine. Exhausting.
I've been there. It is absolute hell.
But I was okay. And then I started seeing things in the shadows. Maybe it was the exhaustion, but I started seeing an old man's shadow sitting in my pumping chair every night that I would wake up to start pumping. That's the worst. Like he's sitting where he he knows you need to go.
Supposed to sit.
I didn't really think much of it, but it got super creepy and I ended up moving my chair to the bedroom. I also want to add that when we were back there, my husband and I had so many arguments, which was so unlike us, and we just generally felt sick and angry all of the time. At first, I chocked it up to postpartum, but I think it was an unfortunate combo of postpartum and hauntings. Fast forward another year or so later, we moved our trailer to a more central location of the property away from the cemetery. We partly did this
56:00
because we felt exhausted and with hauntings in mind, we felt like maybe it would give us a reprieve, a change of scenery, if you will. We truly instantly felt better. However, a few months in, my husband had maybe one or two of those succubus dreams, and I started having these weird dreams of the old shadow man. I got such weird feelings at night that something was watching me in the dark. I'd always feel like something was breathing down my neck. Then one night, I had a dream. I was sleeping but in that stirring half awake half asleep phase when I felt something looming over me inches from my face breathing. I didn't move because I couldn't. And then a voice suddenly yelled in my ear. You killed my wife. What? I felt a rush. The trailer started shifting around as it does when someone is walking in it and the door shifted a jar. I started screaming and crying. I shot a bed, turned on all the lights, and instantly started saging the place. The next morning, I did a full sweep of
57:00
the trailer, opened all of the doors and windows, saged, lit incense, and prayed. I still haven't heard from this man since, but we also started living on a different property, and luckily, I don't think this guy came with us. Did he mistake me for someone else? Who killed this guy's wife? Because I certainly didn't.
I'm like, is he trying to be a succubus? Like, I'm so confused. Is he trying to like lore in who he thinks is the killer of his wife?
I have no idea. Are these separate?
Well, it feel Yeah. Is it two different entities? I have no idea.
Some other things have happened, but ultimately I think we had a weird spirit connected to us. My husband had the succubus. I'd say spirits. My husband had the succubus. Lol. My son had some kind of friend and I got stuck with the terrifying old man. Yay. Go figure.
Jeez.
Love you girls. Live long and prosper from Satie. Live long and drink wine. and drink wine. Just like from her husband's perspective, like what a scary dream to have. And to know that it's not just a dream because there's so much
58:00
other stuff happening.
Yes. Cuz if it happened once, sure, maybe it's just a dream, but it's happening over and over and it's the same thing. How far did he go with her? That's that's the question that I feel like we don't have an answer to.
I know. It's weird. It's dream world. He's
Yeah, it does really remind me of American Horror Story.
American Horror Story. Was it the dream world or is it his mind processing it like a dream?
[ __ ] I hope it was just a dream.
I think we're going to sleep well tonight.
Yeah. If you think of American Horror Story Rowan Oak, which originally I was thinking of American Horror Story,
the first one, haunted house.
