We were like Toy Story is a very heartwarming, we love the story, it gets you in your feels.

Yeah, but you like kind of dream of your favorite toys coming to life.

But then in reality if it happens,

that's absolutely horrifying.

And means you have a haunted object.

And we have some stories to share.

Yes.

Real encounters that you guys have with possessed and haunted toys.

the boy & the toy car

This is called The Boy in the Toy Car.

Hello darklings.

Oh my god.

First off, thank you for creating a safe space for all the little weirdos to come together and share our stories. I'm an interior designer in Spokane, Washington and my job regularly puts me inside old homes mid-renovation, the kinds with walls opening and wires exposed and decades of history being pulled apart with crowbars and dust masks. And I've had a lot of strange experiences before, but nothing that

2:00

ever followed me home until the spring of 2023.

I love just we have read so many stories at this point and heard so many stories that you know the until is coming.

Until.

Until.

When you spend enough time opening up old houses, you start to feel how much they've held. Layers of paint, old floor plans, forgotten belongings tucked into walls.

Lead. Lead. [laughter]

Structurally unsound beams.

Mhm, asbestos.

[laughter]

And of course memories.

Sometimes it feels less like remodeling and more like you're disturbing something that has been sleeping for a very long time.

Monster house.

Usually it's small things. A cold spot, a door shifting when no one touched it, the quiet sense of being watched, whispers. Little things that you brush off. Nothing like this one though. Nothing like the one that stayed with us. It was an overcast afternoon in April 2023. One of my clients had purchased a tiny investment house to flip and I'd been brought in to redesign the layout.

3:00

Moving bedrooms, adding a bathroom, converting basement storage into living space, gutting the kitchen. The kind of project that requires tearing into walls that had not been touched for decades.

Mhm.

My oldest son stayed home from school that day and came with me to the site. When we arrived, the contractors were out to lunch and so the house was completely quiet. I unlocked the side door, which opens onto a small landing with stairs down to the basement. And right there, centered on the floor like someone had placed it carefully, was a toy car. Not dusty, not buried in debris, just sitting there, which made no sense. The house had already been cleared out and all the demo work had been finished. My son immediately bent down and picked it up. It was dirty, the windshield was cracked, paint chipped, nothing special. Kind of cheap little car that you'd just find at the bottom of a toy bin. He's 16, way past toy cars, but he looked at me and asked softly, "Can I keep it?" Something [clears throat] at that moment felt strangely tender, like he found

4:00

something that he didn't want to be left behind. So, I snapped a quick photo of it and told him, "Sure." And he I've attached the photo.

16 16. There's also probably something of like, "Oh my gosh, wait. My little boy who's grown up and has like lost interest in all of these like childlike things is showing this like really sweet childlike moment."

Mhm.

That you're like, "Oh, how

[laughter]

My cute little 16-year-old who would hate that I'd said that.

I actually just had a thought the other day where I was like, cuz Noah, he doesn't want to like sit anywhere without sitting on my lap. So, if we're together, he's on me somehow or he's standing and eating like this close to my cheek. Like you have to be like attached. And I was like, oh. When is this going to end though? It's going to break me when he's like

wants to be independent.

for him to not want to do that when he's 13. But like

When he's 13. [laughter]

When he's six.

It might be a little bit more like that.

Like how How little time do I have where he's munching in my ear and has to be glued to me? When the contractors returned, I

5:00

casually asked if it belonged to them and they exchanged a look that made my stomach drop. Not confusion, but unease. They said nothing had been there when they left. And then one of them half joked, "Maybe it was Sam." Before the other one shot him a look like he shouldn't have just said that out loud.

Who's Sam?

Who Sam was. And after exchanging some nervous looks between themselves, they told me to just follow them downstairs.

That's creepy.

[laughter]

Instead of answering the question, follow us.

Come with me.

Downstairs.

In the basement was a small room that we thought was just a storage space, but after standing in it, the air felt different. The walls had been painted purple and pink like someone had tried to make it cheerful, like maybe it was a child's bedroom, except it wasn't. The ceiling was low, the floor was concrete, the window tiny and high. It did not feel cozy. It felt contained. On the foundation wall, carved into the cement, was one name. Sam. Then, one of the contractors showed

6:00

me something that they had found hidden inside of the wall. An old photograph of a blonde boy standing outside with other kids. A perfectly normal candid snapshot.

Why is it in the wall?

Except someone had scratched his eyes out completely, deliberately destroyed them. And I've attached that photo as well.

We have that photo.

Mhm.

Here, we'll look at the toy car.

And then

Ah. And it's in the wall.

Yep, that's where they found it.

In the wall that said Sam on it.

Mhm. In that room, at least.

Okay.

Then they told me the part that made me feel sick. At some point, the door to that room had been padlocked from the outside. This didn't feel paranormal. This felt human. Which somehow felt worse. We wrapped up quickly and went home. My son tossed the toy car into our mudroom when we walked in, and we didn't really think much about it. Just another strange construction story. Until 3:00 in the morning. I woke up, but I couldn't move. Sleep paralysis, something I had experienced

7:00

before.

No.

This time, my room felt heavy and charged. Then something small entered my room. Child-sized, but not solid. Its shape shimmered like static, like an old television static between channels. It moved around the bed and leaned close to my face, making this garbled crackling sound, like it was trying to speak.

Oh, ho, ho.

It seemed to grow in frustration that I couldn't understand it. And then it pressed its hand into my chest. The pressure felt crushing and cold. And what followed did not feel like a dream. It felt like I was being pulled through someone else's memories. I woke up to the sound of a loud knock on the front door, and I got out of bed and walked towards it. Every movement felt heavy and slow, and when I opened the door, there was a young boy standing alone in the street. Before I could speak, a group of boys emerged from behind nearby trees and boulders, and they rushed him. I stood frozen as they knocked this poor boy to the ground, kicking, laughing,

8:00

calling him names. And then I woke up. Or so I thought I did. Another knock at the door. This time when I opened it, the boy stood there with an older woman behind him. She was yelling, furious. He was crouching, covering his head as she stood striking him. I tried to move. I tried to step forward. I tried to stop her, but my body would not respond. And then I woke up again. Another knock. This time when I opened the door, I was standing inside of a school bathroom. I watched as the boy ran in, hid in the stall, locked the door, and the room filled with people, all saying these horrible things, like no one likes you, you're pathetic, you can't do anything right, you wet your pants.

Oh my god.

The voice went on and on, piling up until it felt unbearable, and I could hear him crying. I could hear him making himself smaller. And then suddenly the bathroom was empty. He stepped

heartbreaking.

right? He stepped outside of the stall and walked to the sink. I watched as he looked in the mirror,

9:00

his eyes red, his shoulders slumped. He leaned closer to his reflection and whispered, almost like he was trying to convince himself, "Come on, Sam. We can do this."

Was it the same boy from the photo?

I think so, yeah. He turned towards the door, and then something struck him from behind. Everything went dark, and I jolted awake for real this time.

Holy [ __ ]

3:00 a.m. Shaking. I woke up my husband. I told him everything, and we laid there awake holding each other for the remainder of the night. In the morning, we walked to the living room and stopped, because there, centered perfectly on the coffee table, was the toy car. Not in the mudroom where it had been left, but instead placed carefully.

Oh my god.

stared at it. That was the moment it stopped feeling like coincidence. Over the next day, we heard footsteps upstairs when no one was there. We heard doors clicking shut, the subtle sound of movement in an otherwise empty house. And so that night we told the kids what had been happening. My son picked up the car, held it

10:00

gently, and said, "Oh, Sam, you can stay with me. You're safe here."

boy you've raised.

Literally chills.

He had no fear, just kindness. He put the toy car on his bookshelf in his room, and the house grew quiet.

Oh, that makes me so happy for Sam.

It has been there ever since. When the car stays in his room, everything feels calm and peaceful. If we move it, lights will flicker, doors will slam, things will fall. Not angry, but panicked, like someone's afraid of being left alone again. So we stopped trying to move him. What surprised me most is that Sam was not the last. Working in old homes, you come across things that carry weight. Old furniture, dolls, artwork, forgotten objects tucked into attics and walls. Every now and then, something follows us home. Not dramatically, not violently, just attached. Not malicious, just sad. Stuck.

Needing love.

And so we started doing something simple. We set some house rules, out

11:00

loud, calmly, the way that you would with anyone frightened or lost. "You are safe here. You are allowed to stay. You cannot scare the children. No breaking things. No hurting people. Be kind to the other spirits residing here. If you can follow the rules, you are welcome to stay until you're ready to move on." And somehow, every time we do this, the house settles, the air softens, and it feels less like a haunting and more like they can finally rest.

Wow.

Since Sam, there have been other spirits who found their way to our home, either via vessels, like an antique doll or furniture, or just simply attaching themselves to me. And at some point, we stopped thinking of our house as being haunted because it feels more like our house has just become a resting place, a spiritual refuge, a term that I've grown fond of. Sam was the first, though. From Ashley.

Lots of thoughts. I'm so grateful that Sam has found a place where he like

12:00

feels welcome and accepted because clearly, based on those visions and like memories Sam I think was sharing with Ashley, they're traumatic and horrible.

Yeah.

And I love this idea, too, that they've brought in other spirits and now Sam has like friends.

Yeah. And how lovely like there is something about Ashley's son that was just so needed. Like in that moment, he felt a connection like, oh, I know I need to take this car home. And yes, Ashley was the one that got all the visions and saw everything. And then her son's response

instead of being like, I'm scared. I can't believe this is happening. It's just like, Oh my gosh, this poor boy was bullied. Like I I'll be your friend. Yeah, like you're welcome here.

Yeah. That will never happen to you in my house and in my room.

Also, that picture, can we look at it again real quick? It I feel like it looks like it's from like the '90s. It doesn't look like super old.

Yeah, you're right. It really doesn't.

I maybe early '90s, but it's not

It could It could be even later. Like I feel like

It's not a very old photo.

This could have been when I was in middle school.

Yeah.

If you're watching on YouTube, there was

13:00

a picture of the basement, a picture of Sam, and a picture of the toy car.

Wow.

haunted doll, true story

All right, well, I have an absolutely horrifying one to share you

Lovely.

you. From our listener Kaylee. And it's called Haunted Doll, true story. Hi ladies,

True story.

True story, bro.

[laughter]

Hey ladies, I recently found your channel and have been obsessed. Thank you for all that you do. This is a real experience that took place at my stepmom's house. So at the time, she and my dad were broken up and only my stepmom and sister were at the house. It took place around Halloween of 2016 or 2017.

Ooh.

I love a good around Halloween paranormal story.

Horrifying. So my stepmom, Beth, and my sister, Grace, grabbed a bin containing

15:00

Halloween decorations to decorate the house. And they opened the box, going through decorations, and they find an ugly, distorted, demonic-looking clown doll laying on top of all the contents. It was like one of those puppet-style dolls with a proportionate head and body, but really thin arms and legs.

Hm.

Beth is looking at it and is like, I never bought this. And keep in mind, Beth is a very cutesy, vintage decor type of person. Never gravitated towards anything scary or creepy, even around Halloween. It was more tasteful. So, Beth asked my sister Grace if she had ever seen the doll before. Grace replied, "No." So, neither of them had ever seen this doll before.

Nothing like a mystery doll just popping up.

Beth was a bit creeped out and a little bit disgusted with the doll, so she put it back in the bin and put all the other decorations up. So, everything but the doll is put up. This doll is left in the bin. A couple days later, she finds the doll out of the box. And if I remember

16:00

correctly, I think Beth and my sister Grace said it was sitting on a chair. And not only that, it smelled like rotten flesh.

Ew! Oh my god. I was not expecting that. I thought maybe like an old perfume or cigarette smoke or something. No, rotten flesh.

Beth said the stench started taking over the living room. So, she put this doll back inside the bin and asked Grace if she had moved the doll. Grace knew nothing. No one had touched that doll. So, Beth is a nurse, so she usually worked three to four 12-hour shifts a week. One evening, she's at work and Grace had a few friends over. They were hanging out in her room, watching TV, playing video games, etc. And one of her friends got up to use the restroom. He opened the bedroom door to find the clown doll sitting on the floor outside of Grace's bedroom.

[sighs and gasps]

What? Uh, this is the thing when things just like pop up out of nowhere. It's like, did it just glitch into existence?

17:00

Did another spirit pick it up and like bring it there? Or did it walk itself?

This one's [ __ ] alive. Excuse my language, but it's absolutely disturbing.

[clears throat]

So, Grace is already freaked out after everything had been happening and the fact that they are the only ones home and none of her friends knew any of the context about this doll nor would they have been able to go find it in this bin that had been like put away. Grace decides to put the doll on the kitchen counter and forget about it. They go back to the room continue hanging out. A while goes by and my sister goes to get water. Again, the moment she opens her bedroom door what is on the floor outside? The doll. No one had left the room.

Oh my god. This is nightmare fuel because how do you escape? It's a tiny little doll but I feel like you could run 3,000 miles away and it would still somehow catch up to you.

Yeah. And Grace is like freaking out in this moment and asks if any of her friends are pranking her even though she knows that no one had left the room since they had put the doll downstairs the last

18:00

time.

have no idea where the doll came from. They'd never seen the doll before.

The friends, no.

Yeah.

Well, even Grace and Beth prior to opening the bin like they had never seen this doll before.

left this doll here.

So, eventually Beth comes home and Grace and all of her friends rush to Beth in panic. They are all simultaneously telling her about the doll and how it kept moving to the door. My sister and her friends come up with this great idea to burn the doll. So, they take it to the backyard. They pour perfume on it and light it on fire. And before they do this, my sister Grace broke the doll's arms and fingers.

Oh.

My stepmom

mutilating the doll that's alive?

I don't blame her. Like it's kind of like cuz it's just like destroying it in all ways, right? Breaking it and burning it.

Wait, this is kind of freaking me out cuz last night I had this horrible nightmare of this like little tiny creature who at first I thought was human and it like came up and was trying to like meet you and me and was like, "Oh, I'm I'm such a fan." And I was like, "There's something really off

19:00

about this energy. I don't think that this is just like That's so weird.

Yeah, but and it was also it like looked like Gollum and was completely nude. So, like it wasn't a normal human.

Halloween

[laughter]

But it like could it kept following me and no matter where I was or no matter how quickly I ran or like escaped a different hotel or into another house, it kept finding me and it would be like really close to me. And finally I pinned it down and tried to chop its arms and legs off. And I woke up

Your dreams are so disturbing.

I only mostly dream at nightmares. And this is a nightmare that's happening in real life. Awakening nightmare. So, my sister broke its arms and fingers.

My stepmom, my sister and her friends watched this doll burn to ashes. Feels like the end of it. A year goes by. It's time to decorate for Halloween again. They bring that bin of decorations down again. They open it. And can you guess what is on top of all the decorations? That same clown doll.

With all of its limbs and appendages.

20:00

Its arms and fingers are still broken.

Oh.

But the doll is in one piece and has burn marks on the clothes, but otherwise not burned.

Yeah, you put that in a package and address it to Greg and Dana Newkirk.

Say good luck.

Bye-bye.

[laughter]

Have a nice life.

Again, they said the moment they opened this bin, it smelled like rotting flesh. And when they saw the doll, its face looked even more evil than they remember it being from the year before. They immediately screamed, put the doll in a bag, covered it in salt, drove to a nearby park, and threw it out the window and never saw the doll again. I will mention that during this time my sister was a teenager and she and her friends would play with Ouija boards regularly. And a lot of spooky things started happening around the house, but this story was by far the creepiest. Thanks for reading, Kaylee.

Uh

Horrifying.

Yeah. This is like the doll that you can never get rid of. And now I'm scared.

No, this is the nightmare that like you

21:00

feel like is fake and is just a scary story, but here's an example of it actually happening. It's like Annabelle.

Truly.

And it's a clown with the burn marks and all the evidence so you can't even convince yourself like did we not actually do that or is this a brand new doll?

new one? Like someone's messing with us.

You know that this is the doll that you actively worked to get rid of the previous year.

The sicko in me really wants to see a picture of this clown doll. Because I want to know what it looks like. Not that I collect clown dolls but like to avoid

[laughter]

or be prepared should this ever come into my life.

Right. Well, I think if a clown doll just like walks into your home you should be scared.

[laughter]

No matter what, I think you can question it and assume that that is not where it should be.

I do have actually a weird clown doll that is apparently haunted because

someone sent it to us in our PO box but

I know usually when something says it's haunted we just immediately hand it off to you.

But I did

22:00

of the Ouija board which we felt really good about so we kept it in the studio.

Holy [ __ ] we have an email from that listener.

Oh, we do?

Because we're recording so much I forgot that I have this. When it came in I was like, oh I'll read it like in the beginning of the next recording and then I forgot and then I saw it again recently and then you bringing that up made me think about it. So

pivot. We have we've got a Ouija board let's go.

an extra story to read. I think it's about the Ouija board.

Which for context we got a package in the PO box and I dipped my hand in and I was like, oh my god I feel this like soft smooth wood board. I think someone sent us a Ouija board which we've never gotten in the mail before. And then with it came a note saying that it was their like great grandmother's or something or like great great grandmother's.

Yeah.

And it is very worn like it has been used and loved. There was no planchette that came with it. It was just the board. They said they didn't want it. They didn't feel anything bad about it but they just didn't want it.

And I think we get more context in this email.

really good about it.

What the heck? This is actually going to kill me. All right, you guys I don't

23:00

know. We cut that down but I would think I searched for 10 minutes and did not find it. I promise we have this email, and if you're listening to this episode, please like resend it or like respond to the email so they can actually read it.

[sighs and gasps]

Shoot.

Watch, it's going to come up immediately after we finish recording.

I know. Anyway, point being that when someone sent me that clown doll,

Mhm.

I did do it was around the same time. I think it it's on YouTube. It's like the live investigation I did of like my Salem flea market haunted vines. I did a little test on the clown doll, and there was like no energy, nothing coming through at all. So, I don't really think it's haunted, or if it is, once it came into my home, it was like, "I'm out of here. I'd rather move to the light than stay here."

Yeah. You wanted the threat of living with you was too much for this doll.

Or a cat. They're like, "I'm deeply allergic."

I can't be here.

glitch in the matrix

Okay, this is a

24:00

very, very short story, but I feel like this is almost a story that I'm using as a call to action because I feel like this happens to people a lot. Okay. I've seen a lot of TikToks about it, and we have a listener email about it. It's called Glitch in the Matrix.

Okay.

My cousin gifted my daughter a mystery princess toy. One where it's a little castle with a surprise princess inside with a little accessory and a vanity that matches the princess.

Cute.

My daughter got Cinderella. Ah, my favorite. Yay. Tell us why. I was getting my daughter out of the car seat and noticed that the vanity got stuck under her little sister's car seat. Except when I retrieved it, my daughter said, "Yay, two." I swear on my life, we did not know that this toy even existed before we got it today. The toys that we keep in the car are Happy Meal toys and books. This is neither of those, and certainly something my 3-year-old would have excitedly showed me if she had had this prior. but she just discovered it with me while

25:00

getting his out of the car and we have two now. Anyway, I'm spiraling. Enjoy, Erin. And there's a picture of the

Oh, they're identical.

Yes, and I feel like this keeps happening to people where it's like they look for their airpod and then they're suddenly

two two or like three

Basically.

Yeah.

And I feel like it happens a lot with toys and like little tiny objects and earrings and stuff. And so this is this is my call to action if you have duplicates of something or if you had this like weird sort of wormhole situation where now you both have two.

just experienced a weird glitch potentially, so

on the email. Yeah.

weird

know. I mean, the only thing I can think of to be like, oh, maybe this happened. Like is this a pre-owned car? Is this like was another kid in the car I you know, like

Right. You're but you're like racking your brain how trying to figure it out. That's wild.

It's very weird.

Will they lose one of them? And it's in the they lose it in the car under that seat?

In the future.

26:00

It glitched into the past. It's the same exact one. Yeah. It's just existing twice now in this timeline and it wasn't supposed to. Even her daughter was like, oh yay, now I have two.

Yeah.

I have one about a haunted Big Bird.

haunted Big Bird

You know, Big Bird is a little haunting looking. There's something a little freaky about that Big Bird.

Mhm.

And Elmo, I feel like there's a lot of haunted Elmos, too.

Mhm.

Okay, this is from a listener, Elaine. Okay, there are a couple of stories and then the haunted Big Bird comes. Hey Ghoulies, I've been listening to your podcast for a long time now. I pick it up when I'm looking for some spooky talks and I drop it when well, I get too scared for my own good. You guys got me through COVID, a bad marriage, which this is a different

28:00

story, but I'm pretty sure this guy had an actual demon attached to him. But, separately, I've also been followed my entire life by something.

Oh.

And so has my mom. We have many stories from spooky happenings occurring when we were together and also when we are away from each other. If I could tell you everything that has ever happened, we would probably have a long essay. But, today I'm going to tell you about an absolutely haunted item that I found at Goodwill. About three or four years ago, my mom, brother, and I went shopping at our local Goodwill. I'm an avid thrifter, always on the hunt for really anything vintage, dishes, clothes, shoes, etc. And I didn't realize haunted relics would be something I'd be purchasing in my life, but here I am. So, I was browsing the glass aisle and I stumbled across this Sesame Street Big Bird piggy bank. He was, let's just say, different. With honest-to-god soulless eyes, and by golly, I had to have him. That sentence alone is a red flag.

Yeah.

29:00

Soulless eyes, I had to have him.

bank, feed him more money.

Feed me. The corporations need it. My mom wanted to buy him before I did, but I won that purchase.

that's kind of creepy that everyone's now fighting over this soulless piggy bank.

Piggy bank. I won that purchase, or I guess now, after everything that happened, I should say lost.

Mhm.

I immediately took him home and placed him right in my living room in my apartment by the front door. My now ex said it was the creepiest thing he's ever seen and definitely was not the Big Bird he remembered watching on TV. I ended up investigating this thing to see what it was worth or if I could find anything similar to it, and I couldn't find anything. Nothing about this Big Bird piggy bank came up, or not even anything close to what it looked like.

Mhm.

The usual spooky stuff occurred after getting him. Elaine keeps calling it him, which is so creepy. In our apartment. Having the life I have, you'd understand why I was used to weird goings-on and never really thought too much of it. My job is also extremely

30:00

creepy, and all of us who work here have seen a little boy and ghost woman walking in our store around closing. So,

Wow.

most of the things that go bump in the night don't have an effect on me. However, we moved into a new house, and extra weird crap started happening. Then my ex and I started going through the divorce process, and he started staying in the back bedroom of our house. One night I got home from a trip in Virginia with my parents, and I wanted my dog Chester to sleep with me in my room that night. So, I walked down the back hallway, and I saw my ex's silhouette standing in the doorway. So, I said, "Hey, I'm home. I want Chester." But he doesn't respond to me. So, I reached out to like get his attention. My hand just goes through the air. Nobody is there.

Uh what?

I freak out.

reaching out to try to make physical contact and it's

with what you think is a physical being. And then in that moment, as she's reaching, her like reality shifts and no

31:00

one's there.

Oh my god, I I would think I'm losing my mind.

I freaked out. I opened the room and got my dog and got out of there. The energy in that hallway has always been so negative. And wouldn't you guess, that is exactly where I had put the Big Bird piggy bank.

Jesus.

So, at least 2 years after my ex moved out, I was cleaning out the back bedroom one night by myself, and Chester the corgi started barking obnoxiously. And this is usual, I ignored him, so because he does it all the time. It's kind of like Leia when she screams. She's always screaming.

Meowing. She's always screaming.

Like nonstop. Meowing, meow, meow. But that night, right above my head, where a window is, I heard two knocks. I immediately looked at my ring camera, because I thought someone was actually outside my house.

Mhm.

Nobody was there. I called my boyfriend, and he flew out to my house to save the day. In the end, nothing was there. We now live together,

32:00

and the Big Bird will be out of the house this week, because he cannot even look at it without getting the creeps.

Yeah.

What's super strange is that everyone who first sees this Big Bird loves him. Even going back to when Elaine found it.

I'm looking at the photo.

Mhm.

And I like don't initially get the creeps either. I'm like, "Oh, it's kind of cute."

Yeah.

It is kind of cute. It does draw you in a little bit.

Let's end this on a just absolutely terrifying note. There was one night I got home around 1:00 a.m. I was getting ready for bed. Chester the dog was next to me about to fall asleep when I heard something messing with my closed bedroom door. I assumed it was my roommate's baby at the time trying to get in and I ignored it. I turned off my light. I laid down for the night. All of a sudden, I feel something at the foot of my bed start to crawl up the bed towards me. I screamed. I turned on my light. I looked for Chester and he was still right next to

33:00

me sleeping. I immediately called my mom, told her what was going on and proceeded to not fall asleep for the rest of the night. What do you guys think? Is he a conduit or is there something else following me around? See you on the other side, Elaine.

Man, I don't know. I have mixed feelings about Big Bird, too.

The longer you look at it

Right.

having the context of the story

Yeah.

Yeah. Sus.

I getting

You really can't look away. Why can't I look away?

There's something about the eyes. They're like almost looking right at you but also just like slightly

[gasps]

Did you know that Big Bird is different colors based on what country? Sesame Street is there. Yeah, there's like different versions of Sesame Street and Big Bird. Big Bird, what are you doing?

Well, I'm also Okay, cuz Elaine has clearly alluded to the fact that they have been followed

Mhm.

by something their whole entire life. This clearly stood out as something completely different but I want to know those stories too as like context.

Yeah.

Are the hauntings worse when your ex is around?

34:00

What the [ __ ] was that like reality shift, too?

I know.

is what I'm kind of caught on. It's like literally thinking you're speaking to people. You're talking to someone. You're reaching out to touch and then boom, the whole facade It's like a mirage. It just disappears right in front of you.

Well, also Elaine did say it was like the silhouette of who she thought was her ex. So, it wasn't like a fully formed body. It was just like that's what your mind would jump to. Yeah. But like it was a ghost. This reminds me of that one story we read on a haunted objects or haunted antiques episode was a painting. Do you remember this story? Where

a few paintings.

this person was drawn to this painting like at an antique shop.

Mhm.

And like to the point where they bought they had to buy it, but then started having nightmares and it was like oh like they saw it and then started having dreams about how like this was meant to be in your life and it was like kind of really creepy. I'm butchering this. They went to an antique store. The dad was

35:00

like obsessed with this painting and like kept wanting it, but the listener was like I'm getting weird vibes from it. And then had like a nightmare that the painting was going to end up in the dad's possession and it was going to like hurt the dad. And then next thing they know, they get a call from their dad who's like I went back and got that painting.

I don't remember that.

Really?

Yeah. But this is proof of how many effed up paranormal experiences people have.

I'll try to look and if we find what episode that was in, we'll put it in the show notes of like what episode it was so you can go and listen to it.

Yeah, if we can ever find whatever email we're trying to reference cuz these days it's hard to find anything.

[laughter]

Today's not the day. The spirits have hidden them.

ghost in the window

Okay, I have a story called The Ghost in the Window.

Okay.

Hello ladies, my name is Amanda, she/her, and I decided that today is the day I'm going to sit down and tell a story that I have held on to for most of my life. Growing up, my family loved the paranormal and everyone in my household believed in the paranormal except for my

37:00

dad. And then in parentheses she she puts men with the like

[laughter]

eye roll. We would watch Ghost Hunters together, go on spooky adventures the whole month of October, and spooky stories were common around the dinner table.

Love.

My dad didn't participate often. The most he would do to embrace the paranormal was wait until we were watching something scary and then he would sneak outside and bang on the windows to scare us.

So creepy.

And I feel like this is a good point to throw in that I am from the deep Appalachian mountains of southern West Virginia and he would go outside in the dark at night with no flashlight. Then in parentheses men.

[laughter]

And all of this was just to add to the 4D experience of fear that we were already feeling from whatever we were watching. Anyway, the point of all of this is to say that this guy really didn't play into anything paranormal.

Or buy into it.

He definitely played into it.

into it. He didn't buy into it.

Until one day when he decided to share a

38:00

story that has stuck with me and haunted me for the past 20 years. I'm going to tell the story as he told it, so it's going to be from his point of view.

Oh [ __ ]

I've gotten him to retell it a couple times and the most recent time I recorded it. Here is her dad speaking.

Okay.

When I was stationed in Japan in the military, some of the guys would swear that they'd seen ghosts in their lives. And they would share their stories when there was nothing else to do. There was a couple of guys that didn't believe in it, or at least that's what I'd figured, because none of us would really participate. We would go play cards or something while they told their stories, but one night one of the guys was sitting with us and decided to tell his own story. It is the only time a scary story has ever felt real. The way he told it, I don't see how he could be coming up with it on the spot. He said that when he was little, growing up in Indiana or Iowa or something like that, his parents were able to buy a house for them. He also had a little brother. The house was nothing extravagant. The downstairs had a living room, a dining room, kitchen, bathroom, and one bedroom. Then on the second story, there

39:00

was a small landing at the top of the stairs, and there were two bedrooms on either side. The two boys got the upstairs bedrooms, and the parents stayed downstairs. He said that almost immediately after they moved in, they started to experience unexplainable things, particularly in the upstairs bedrooms. He had both his and his brother's toys in his room, kept in a very heavy wooden toy box. You have to keep in mind that this was the early '70s, so kids' toys were loud and clanky. He said that anytime both he and his brother were downstairs, they would hear things clanking around. They'd go back upstairs, and every single one of the toys would be pulled out from the toy box.

So, it's not just one?

Every single one. It's Toy Story. It's literally Toy Story.

The toys with batteries would come on from inside of the toy box. His stuff would be moved around his room either while he slept or while he was gone. And the weird thing is, he never outright saw anything. With the toys coming on, it would just be the noise coming from inside the box, and he would never see

40:00

anything move or any ghost wandering about. Most of the activity would happen when he wasn't there. Literally Toy Story. And nothing ever happened in his brother's room. It was mostly in his room.

Because all the toys are there.

And it was always centered around the toys. This kind of made me not believe him, because if it was real, you would see it, but he kept going. He said that it would scare him. He'd see things move around when he came home, or he'd wake up to the noises, but he never had a deep fear of what was doing it. It was more of like a jump scare to change the environment. He actually loved his room. He loved his house. After about a year or two in this house, his parents did decide to move, and he never told us why, but I don't know if it's because of the thing that was living in his house, or if they just got another job somewhere else. Anyway, he was really sad about moving, but while he was packing, he and his brother decided that they were getting too old for some of the toys they had, and they didn't want to take the majority of them. Literally Toy Story one. Or Toy Story 2. Which one? Like all of them.

[laughter]

Or like they packed up

1 is packed up, and then Toy Story 2 is

41:00

like going to college.

Okay, right, right.

Yeah.

His parents said to just leave them for the next people, because they might have kids, and they might still want them. And so, that's what they did. They packed up the toys that they wanted to keep, and left the toy box and the other toys in that room. After the car was packed up, and they were driving away, he decided to go take one more look in the house, and when he looked up into his bedroom window, he saw a little boy looking back at him.

Wait, but that makes me happy, cuz they left the toys for the little boy. Like almost it was like instinct. Like they could have brought all the toys, but there was something that was like, I want to leave the toys.

boy needs these toys. The little boy had no eyes, but his expression looked sad.

Oh.

As they were driving

leaving.

Right. His brothers

They're gone.

As they were driving away, the boy in the window raised his hand to wave. He said that as he sat there in the car, he tried to get his mom, who was in the passenger seat, to look, but by the time she paid attention to him, they had already rounded the corner, and the house was out of sight.

This is beautiful, and it's so sad.

42:00

He said he had the feeling that whatever was in his room could have been the spirit of a kid, but he was never too sure. And he never wanted to think about it too hard. He said that part of his motive for leaving the toys wasn't fully because he didn't want them anymore, but because he believed that something or someone might want them more. He told us the image of the little boy in the window sticks with him and there isn't a day that goes by where he doesn't see it. From Amanda.

Wow.

And Amanda's dad.

That's amazing.

Isn't it?

I was nervous because the way the dad says it's like the most terrifying thing he's ever heard. But on a scale of terrifying when it comes to the paranormal, that's like a beautiful story.

Probably terrifying to him because it's like someone who he actually believes.

Yeah. [laughter] And he

So he's like, "Oh my god."

Right, yeah.

Damn. I love that story.

Right? It's all and the little boy is just like waving.

Waving. I hope I do hope more kids moved into that house.

Yeah. Makes me think of your house

43:00

growing up and your little brother in the

Mom, tell the little boy don't want to play. I'm trying to sleep.

[laughter]

And then all like his fire trucks and all that stuff would go off all the time.

Yeah.

Um he had an Elmo that would like it was like a sleep with me Elmo where you would open the book and it was talking about going to bed.

Mhm.

Oh no, it was Blue's Clues. And at the end Blue's Clues would go to sleep, but that would also go off in the middle of the night.

So creepy.

NOCD

Kream, we need to talk about this because OCD is a serious and highly misunderstood condition which you have.

Yeah, I was diagnosed when I was 14.

And we're so grateful for our sponsor NOCD. Uh yeah, I want to hear about your experience.

Well, I feel like a lot of people attribute OCD to being tidy or needing something orderly, but it was super debilitating for me and I had to go seek help and go to therapy when I was in high school because it was getting in the way of my school work. It was getting in the way of me even getting to class on time. I can't even talk about it, the triggers. I'm going to have to do the breathing techniques [laughter]

44:00

But this is the point is with the right kind of help from a specialized therapist who truly understands what you're experiencing and is trained to treat it. haunted rocking horse

I have a really heartwarming one to end us on. And it kind of does remind me of Toy Story as well. Not only because it is like a toy but because there's something on like the boot. Kind of. Ooh. It's not a boot.

There's a snake in my boot.

Yeah. Cuz Andy writes Andy on the bottom of Woody's boot. It's kind of like that.

45:00

This is from our listener Alex and they say not really paranormal but maybe fate in the works here. This rocking horse was made for my sister 33 years ago by my great grandpa and we used to bring it to every single house we lived in which was a lot. Once my sister and I grew up and we moved out of our house the horse stayed back with my mom and followed her to each of her houses until a few years ago. Um unfortunately in her last move he was left behind. So this was years ago.

Mhm.

Rocking horse.

Horse left behind.

Don't have access to rocking horse.

Yes.

Horse. Bye-bye.

Yesterday, this is sent in 2019. Yesterday I was scrolling through Facebook Marketplace because I'm slightly obsessed with looking at everyone's stuff. When all of a sudden I look everyday too. I I get overwhelmed I've purchased maybe like one thing ever on Facebook Marketplace but I look every single I get overwhelmed with Facebook Marketplace. Yesterday I was scrolling through Facebook Marketplace when I came across a garage sale.

46:00

Ooh. All the treasures. That's where you can get some haunted stuff, Sabrina.

With a familiar looking rocking horse. This is not the house that Alex's mom left the rocking horse at. Not even the same neighborhood. Years later, the familiar looking rocking horse. I was like, "Whoa, is that ours?" I felt like it had to be because our rocking horse was made by hand, but there are so many rocking horses made by hand, so who knows. Either way, I quickly jump in the car and drive to the address and I meet the homeowner. And I explain the situation to the homeowner. To just to make sure I'm not full of it, I asked this homeowner if the bottom of the horse had a name carved into it. Did it say George and the year '87? Her face dropped. We lifted this horse up. There it was. My pawpaw's name. I couldn't help but cry in this lady's driveway.

this is supposed to happen. It found its way back to you, a fair family heirloom.

She had apparently found him on the curb ready for garbage pick

47:00

up and she rescued him and then posted it on Facebook Marketplace where I found it.

Wow.

woman then gave me my horse back without asking anything in return. I brought him home, cleaned him up, gave him a new hairstyle and new ears. And maybe it's just me, but he looks like a very happy or much happier horse now. My great-grandpa passed away years ago and I couldn't help but get sentimental while working on this horse. 33 years ago, he was doing the same thing I was doing. Fishing yarn through those little holes to make hair and fashioning little ears. And I'm certain I felt him there with me. So, it's not even just like handmade, it was handmade by Alex's grandpa.

Also, I'm looking at the pictures and I totally understand why Alex would be like, "Wait, is that my horse?" Because it is extremely distinct-looking.

Yeah, there were so many photos of it. Like it's not just like a just like where the notches are and everything like that. Like this is you would know.

And I won't post these photos, but Alex also did include photos of their own

48:00

children

Mhm.

on the rocking horse, which is just like the most beautiful thing in the world. You think like Alex and their I think it was sister both used this rocking horse that their grandpa had built for them.

I love it.

It's actually making me think

Great grandpa.

in uh 2020 during the pandemic when I like went and lived with my parents, I was helping them purge their house and get rid of stuff and so I was posting a lot on Facebook Marketplace and there was one thing that they had purchased for me when I was really little. I was like, I don't need this. I'm never going to use this. And it was a little kid stool that was painted like in cow print and it had udders [clears throat] underneath.

Wait, I love that.

And we sold it.

That's so you.

And now it is like my only regret selling because I'm like, oh my god, like Noah would love it.

Yeah.

trying to like just sit on anything. I'm like, this is the perfect size stool for him. He loves cows. I love cows.

Have you looked this up?

49:00

I sold it in Vermont.

No, but like cow udder stool.

I can go back into my old

[gasps]

Does it exist?

No, but people are selling them for like a hundred bucks. That is not what I'll tell you guys what I sold mine for. Let me go back into my history. Okay, here it is. I sold it for $15, which probably means I sold it for like 10.

I love it.

Right? If anyone has my stool from Vermont that I sold for $15 and you want to give it back.

I mean, can't you find who you

Yeah, but what am I going to say? Ship me my cow stool, please?

Hey, excuse me. I have a son who calls me cow.

The one you regret.

The one who got away, my $15 cow stool from when I was a child.

Oh, man. I'm trying to find both the haunted painting and the Ouija board emails. All right, well, if we find these emails, we'll read them in an upcoming episode or we'll link it in the show

50:00

notes. But otherwise, toys are coming to life and sometimes it's heartwarming, sometimes it's like little spirits of young children finding comfort in toys. And other times it's just absolutely downright demonic and be wary of any creepy dolls that just appear in your home.
