The exorcist asked my aunt if she could put a drop of blood in her glass of water.

Oh my gosh.

In the morning, the glass was empty, like someone had drank it.

Hey.

[laughter]

Hey demons, hey.

Hey dolls, hey ghouls, hey.

Hey dolls.

Oh, dolls and demons and ghouls and goblins. This is Two Girls One Ghost.

Two Girls One Ghost.

And I am your sleep paralysis demon, Sabrina, and you are Patricia from Widow's Bay Currant.

[laughter]

Yes, and in a devastating turn of events, my fox wasn't here.

1:00

That's okay. What did you make for a punch? What's in our punch today?

Mm, it's my classic jungle juice recipe from college.

Ooh, what was that? What was

a lot of Kool-Aid.

Oh, yeah.

Of course.

Drinking the Kool-Aid, lots of lemonade.

Yeah.

Lots of Crystal Light.

What What was the alcohol of choice?

and heaps of vodka and trashy vodka at that.

Oh, yeah.

Like the plastic bottle.

Well, actually no, I did I did Svedka.

Oh, you were classy.

Yeah.

Mm, classy girl.

Mhm. Classy girls drinking jungle juice.

People couldn't taste the alcohol.

And so every time I made the jungle juice, I also washed vomit off of the walls.

Actually, I was walking to my parking garage this morning and it reeked of vomit in the like stairwell.

Well,

We're recording this during the World Cup

[laughter]

and there's a lot of drinkers in Boston right now. So much so that the Boston bars are running out of alcohol.

of the booze.

Which you never think would have happened.

No. Um, but yeah, hey, I'm the demon from Poltergeist. I don't know if

Poltergeist.

I Insidious. Why do I I've Recently I've been doing that a lot. Like and

2:00

[laughter] I was telling people my costume, I kept saying Poltergeist but Insidious.

Insidious.

Insidious.

[crying]

I don't think he ever speaks in the movie.

No, he doesn't.

lurks. But I will be speaking a lot today.

[laughter]

Cuz it's my episode and what did I do? I

so you wanna be possessed?

decided to get really spooky ooky ooky because I'm a sleep paralysis demon. And I want to tell you of the dangers that I possess.

Okay.

AKA I could possess you.

[laughter]

I have one concern.

What's your concern?

Did you use the real paint on your face?

No.

Okay.

No, I used

It's just so clear like the way that it's come off of your cap.

What do you mean? Is it melting off?

No, no, no, no. Sorry, I mean like the line. So you use some face paint on your cap, shouldn't

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Okay, okay.

You can tell the difference.

Because I made that mistake one time when I painted myself as Ursula last [clears throat] for a costume party my skin burned and it was like about to peel off.

used face paint.

3:00

Okay. I was like how long do we have until your skin starts

Until it starts melting off. That would make for a really [laughter] horrifying episode. But yeah, I I'm going to tell you about possessions and I'm going to back it up with some I'm going to back it up back that ass up.

[laughter]

With some real

of a booty does the Insidious demon have?

As big as mine which is none.

[laughter]

Booty given zero. Um I think it's small but you know, take some time. But I'm going to back up the information I'm going to give you about possessions with real terrifying, horrifying, heart pounding, nail biting, pull at your hair, shiver me timbers

Did you write all these or are you coming up with them

[laughter]

Oh my god.

I wrote them all down. Reddit stories about real life possessions and exorcisms.

Oh my god.

And then I wrote because Reddit has everything and it's okay and I want to be horrifying. It's okay that Reddit has everything or it's okay that I want to be horrifying. I'm not sure.

[laughter]

I think both.

It's hard to look at you. I can't focus.

4:00

I might [snorts] have to look away.

It's hard to be me right now.

Yeah. Oh, the like I my eyes are I I have a headache all of a sudden.

From my presence?

From looking at you. I can't

on the camera so everyone can see the eyes?

Yes. It just looks like it would bother you.

Oh, it looks so scary on here.

It really does.

Oh, I keep looking nice.

That's why I told you. You were like, "Oh, I think the camera's just going to wash. You're going to just be able to see my skin." I was like, "I don't think so. I think you look pretty horrifying."

it looks way better on these cameras than on our phone cameras.

Okay. It's okay that Reddit has everything and I want to be horrifying.

It's okay.

So, I am going to start by talking about I have to take my glove off. That's Why was that so sensual?

Like This is a

Ooh, finger by finger.

You made your postal worker pervy. Another insidious demon.

It's Summerween, okay?

[laughter]

Okay, but I'm going to start talking about possession in general. What is it?

5:00

How do you know if you're possessed? And WWAED, what would an exorcist do? And then [clears throat] I've picked a couple wild stories from Reddit to really immerse us in the experience. I also did find a listener story that I just want to read in the midst of it. So, why not? So, what is a possession, Karen?

It's when an entity enters your body and takes over.

Exactly. And to be clear, the actual definition does vary across cultures and religions, but generally it's accepted to be the same idea. Yeah, the state in which an external spiritual entity takes control of a person's body and mind either partially or completely without consent. The host becomes a vessel or a vehicle that something else drives. Essentially, a possession is an invasion. Most people do not invite the spirits to take over them, and even if they do, in most possession cases, it's after months and months and months of like deteriorating, manipulating,

6:00

breaking down the person to the point where they beg, like whatever you do, just like make it stop. Take over me. And I feel like when we talk about possessions and exorcisms, we often think about the Catholic Church, which is totally fair because most movies and stories do involve those, too.

Well, and the Catholic Church also pitches itself as the only divination which can perform an exorcism, which is like the thing you go to when you think of a possession that you need to be exorcised.

Correct. And yes, they have their exorcism rights, but a lot of cultures have ways to exorcise or like rid you of a demon. Like you're not [ __ ] if you're not religious. You're good.

And it's also kind of hard to receive a exorcism from the Catholic Church.

Well, then also, I feel like a lot more people who are in the Catholic Church are the ones who are getting possessed.

That is true. I'm just speaking nothing but facts.

Well, that's churches afflicted with the demonic presences.

dead. What if my sleep paralysis demons from New Jersey?

7:00

Got to get the bagels. The water's just different. Water. The water.

Water. Well, that's actually kind of Philly.

New Jersey water?

My mom says water. What is more Philly than this? But nearly every major tradition on Earth has a form of possession. In Islam, there's the jinn, which can be positive or negative. In Hinduism, there's a spirit called bhuta or preta. They're spirits who usually have died badly and then linger and can possess. In West African and Caribbean traditions, possession exists, but they're often seen as sacred rather than threatening.

How interesting.

And there are other cultures that invite possession in terms of like a ritualistic practice.

Mhm.

Today, we're going to talk mostly about the Catholic versions. The really scary spirit taking over your body and trying Yeah, horror movie. Steal your soul. And I do think it's important to mention that with possession, there is a lot of talk about mental health and I we both have talked about this absolutely like if you are experiencing things and

8:00

hearing voices, you should always make sure it's not something medical.

Yeah, check all the boxes.

Right. Just make sure and then hopefully it's something medical that you can fix. But in a lot of cases, it's an evil spirit. Just like me.

[laughter]

Trying to possess you. And also to the all those people who don't believe that possession is possible and don't believe that spirits are possible. And

Interesting that you're here.

Yeah. Well, welcome. We're glad you're here.

But F you. [laughter] Happy Halloween. We hope you stay after the month of October, too.

We love having you here.

[laughter]

I'll haunt you if I die. Yay.

That's a threat. That is a threat.

Okay. But how do you actually tell if someone is possessed? Because it doesn't just start with what we see in movies.

signs of possession

Because I feel like most movies, they show like people levitating off the bed and like bending and contorting in all different ways and projectile vomiting like green colored pea soup and spinning their head around on their bodies. Which sure, maybe at a certain point some of

9:00

these things might happen, but that's not how they start.

Yeah.

Usually, there are stages. First, there's an attachment, then there's oppression, and then eventually leads to the possession. One of the biggest signs people talk about is a sudden personality change. Someone who used to be very calm becomes aggressive. Someone kind becomes cruel. Someone who used to feel familiar suddenly feels different. Like they're still physically there,

Mhm.

but somehow they're not quite themselves. And then another really common indication is unexplained rage or strength. There's stories about very small people who need four to five adults to hold them down. I actually have a story just like that from Reddit. Yay. Then there are voices. People will report hearing whispers, hearing their name called, feeling like someone is constantly watching them. Some people describe hearing conversations happening around them when nobody's there. And like these first two instances, like personality change and hearing voices, this [clears throat] is why getting mental health like checkup is important

10:00

cuz those are indications of mental illness as well.

Totally.

Then we go to some of It's not one of the most famous signs of possession, an aversion to sacred things. Holy water, religious symbols, prayer, places of worship. Again, not just Christianity, variations of this show up all over the world. And then there's people speaking languages they've never heard, they've never learned or known before. They know information about you or other people that they never should have known or about strangers that they're not possible for them to know. Then there are things that act around them that start to act weird, like the normal hauntings, paranormal things, objects moving, lights flickering, electronics malfunctioning, strange smells, shadow figures, knocking, footsteps, that feeling that someone is standing in the room with you when all you know is that you're completely alone, but you feel like you're not. Bless you, bless you, bless you.

Ugh.

Bless

My soul's trying to leave me so that something else can possess me.

It's me. I'm trying to rip your soul out of your body.

I think it's so freaky because your

11:00

pupil, like the way that the contacts are, your pupils are being kept at a certain like the same

So I'm not dilating in any way?

Yeah, and they're like a little too small.

Creepy. Should I drive home like this?

[laughter]

In Salem, people not might not bat an eye, but once you get further down to Boston

Going down to Boston?

The Scots might love it. Right?

Just walking through Boston?

Get a new original boyfriend.

[laughter]

Just another day.

But so keep in mind all these signs as we get into today's stories because the Reddit stories I chose do pretty much have all of those signs and stages that I just shared. Mysterious voices, unexplained strength, shadow figures, possession, exorcisms, and I even have a story about a jinn that will make you want to sleep with the lights on.

Oh god.

So, let's get into it. This one is

the exorcist's daughter

called The Exorcist's Daughter and it was posted on the subreddit forum paranormal 6 years ago by We Little Junebug. Sounds so cute and sweet and innocent, right?

We Little Junebug.

But it comes from the Philippines. The user said, "This is a long story, so

12:00

bear with me. Before my dad came to North America, he was practicing to become a priest. And in some cultures, it is widely believed that a priest should also learn about and perform exorcisms. It's a very old world thing, but it's still prevalent where I grew up. Even my grandfather used to perform exorcisms, and so too did my great-grandfather."

Wow.

A family of exorcists.

business.

Yeah, it's like a long line of witches, a long line of exorcists.

[laughter]

And my dad has told me some of his stories, they're pretty fascinating. I grew up in a very religious household, but I am not very religious. And I like to believe in ghosts, but personally never seen one. So, growing up when my dad told us stories, I was a bit of a skeptic. But this is the thing that my dad likes to hammer in. He tells me, and has told me ever since I was a kid, that I take after him. He believes I have a gift, just like him. He used to tell me he was so successful with exorcisms because he has a sixth sense and can feel, hear, and touch the supernatural. And he can

13:00

kind of sort of understand them. I, on the other hand, my gift is being able to dream about things vividly, and they come true soon after. Kind of like déjà vu. But déjà vu's common, so I didn't really pay it much mind growing up. One day, when I was about 14, my dad received a phone call. It was an acquaintance who knew of my dad and his work back home. [clears throat] Mind you, at this point, when I was 14, my dad had done a massive pivot and became a therapist rather than a priest and probably hadn't done an exorcism in probably a decade.

I wonder how many people he has as patients where he's like, "Oh man, yeah. They might just need a little extra something."

Well, at least he can do both.

Mhm.

He's trained. So, my dad takes this phone call and agrees to the job. He then looks at me and announced that I will be joining him because I have the same gift as he does and he wants me to understand what he does. Teenage me thought, "Ugh."

[clears throat]

But, I went. We pull up to this big house in an affluent neighborhood in our city and immediately I felt sick. I can't even explain the feeling. It was like

14:00

the moment we drove into the driveway, I was already nauseous and panicked for no reason. Because from the outside this was a normal house. I told my dad how I was feeling and he quietly told me that we're going to be okay. We're going to go inside. There was a couple in their mid-40s that lived in the house. They had no children. It was just the two of them. The husband opened the door and the first thing I noticed were the bags under his eyes. The second thing I noticed was that the entire house had no lights on. It was pitch black.

Mhm.

When we entered, it felt like the air in the house was being sucked out of my lungs. Like I've never done this, but I felt like it was as if I put a vacuum to my mouth and that's how powerful the air being sucked out of my lungs was.

Oh god, that's so aggressive.

She said, "I've never felt that way before." So, my dad

I would actually I think I that would send me into a full-out blown panic attack.

No, terrifying.

My dad set up a little shrine in their living room, did his rituals and prayed to it. Then he and the husband went upstairs to see his wife. For some [ __ ] reason they left me alone downstairs in the den by myself. So,

15:00

it's dark because again, the lights are not on and I sit on the couch. As I'm sitting there, I suddenly feel what feel like fingers poking in my back viciously. Like like people with long fingernails jabbing my back to get my attention. But, here's the thing. That couch was against the wall. So, how could that be happening? Naturally, I'm too afraid to look, so I can stand up and I walk straight out of the room without looking back. Oh, what a nightmare. This is like literally the reason that I had my bed pushed against the wall as a child. It was to protect me from one side, but here we are. It doesn't do anything. Oh, it reminds me of that one story we read where they were sleeping and a hand came out of the wall. So, I walk into the kitchen and I can feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I feel as though there are people behind me talking softly so as to not disturb me. It sounded like a man and a woman speaking, but my dad and the couple were upstairs and it didn't even sound like them anyway. I am too scared to move, so I

16:00

just stand there staring for what seems like an eternity. So, then my dad comes back downstairs. I tell him what happened and he's sympathetic. He told me to pray and then he is about to head back upstairs, but I make him bring me with him because I was too scared to be left alone. He brings me into the master bedroom of the house and I see the wife for the first time. She looks small and fragile laying in a four-post king bed. The curtains are all drawn and the only light is coming from the candles my dad has lit. She doesn't acknowledge me and her husband sits in a corner of the room quiet. My dad places me in a chair next to the husband and we just watch my dad together. He starts praying over the wife when all of a sudden she sits up in bed screaming and the curtains in the room all fly open all at once and my dad and whatever is left of this lady are just staring at each other eye to eye. The husband in a panic basically scoops me up and carries me out of the room cuz he can tell I'm scared and I stand in the hallway as he goes back into his wife and my dad and closes the door. After seeing that and experiencing what I did downstairs, I'm standing there trying not to [ __ ] my pants and I'm mad

17:00

at my dad for thinking this was a good idea to bring a kid to any of this, but I still don't feel alone in the hallway. So, I sit down on the floor and I just try to ground myself and think of being somewhere else. Eventually, my dad comes out of the room. He doesn't talk. He doesn't say anything to the husband. He whispers some instructions and we left. I didn't see the lady again after that. And then when we got home that night, my mom was so pissed at my dad for bringing me along. I mean, how irresponsible

that they didn't talk about it before. It's just like he's like, "Whatever, I need you."

Yeah. This is your destiny. She ends it with, "I'd like to think myself as a skeptic. To this day, I'm really not sure what I experienced myself and that was the last exorcism my dad has ever done."

Damn, that's the last one. Or so he has told them.

Yeah, now he's like, "I keep it to myself."

Right. Yeah, he got caught last time and got in trouble.

Also, how can you be skeptic after that? Like literally something poking you in the back.

You can't. You can't. Right?

You can, I guess.

You can say you are, but how do you

18:00

explain it?

Yeah, how do we explain it? Okay, now

demonic encounter in church

I'm going to read the one from our listener.

Ooh, okay.

And then I'll go back to Reddit. This is from a listener, Nina. And it is called a demonic encounter in church. Hello Ghostesses, I hope this satiates

Sabrina's thirst for demonic stories.

[laughter]

Consider me satiated.

Literally dressed as a demon reading the story about it.

That's why I was like, "This costume's so perfect for this episode." Okay. Nina says, "When I was about 10 to 12 years old, I went with my sister and my cousin to a girl's birthday party. And this birthday party was in a church. I didn't really know the girl. We were all at that preteen rebellious age where we wanted to show off and be irreverent. So, a group of us, including myself, my sister and my cousin, go to explore the church basement. While we're down there, we see old dusty classrooms that are lit by small windows in the fading light of what is now dusk outside."

I do have questions. Like, is this is there like a wreck room that people are renting? Like, why is this I think like the spot?

The family must be involved in the church in some way.

never heard of anyone having a wreck

19:00

room.

that they

That they go into. Okay, that makes sense.

As we're looking into the classrooms, we all witnessed something levitate off the tables. All of us witnessed it and this isn't even the scary part. So, after getting a little spooked, the pastor of the church found us all in the basement and gave us a stern reprimand for being where we shouldn't be and made us all return upstairs to the party. But, here's where it gets spooky. I remember the birthday girl was hitting a piñata when my cousin tapped me on the shoulder and said, "Let's go to the basement." In a spirit of rebellion, I followed my cousin back down to the basement. By now, night had fallen, so there were no lights on in the basement. It was dark, like pitch-black. But, as I was walking down the basement steps, my cousin vanished. I was so confused. Did he run downstairs? Were we playing hide and seek and I missed him saying that? But, I figured he had already gone downstairs into the basement. So, I continue after him.

Lowered into the basement of the church.

I call out his name, but no answer. I was alone in the basement. And I said,

20:00

"This isn't funny." And then, all of a sudden, I smelled the scent of sulfur, rotten eggs. And then, I heard slow footsteps coming towards me. It was the sound of like fancy male dress shoes hitting the linoleum floor.

Mhm.

Click. Click.

Oh.

Click. It's a demon dapper that has horrible horrible flashlights. I called out for my cousin again, hoping that it was him playing a joke on me. Except, he was wearing sneakers, not dress shoes, and no one was responding. But, those slow click of the dress shoes on the floor continued and they were getting closer and closer to me. And as they got closer, the smell of sulfur increased stronger and stronger. Eventually, the sound of the footsteps was right in front of me and the smell of sulfur was so strong that I was covering my mouth and nose, nearly gagging. But, I couldn't see anyone there. I felt what could only be described as a malevolent presence, and I just started to run. But, as I started to run, I heard the click click of the shoes running after me. Unfortunately, it was pitch-black. I couldn't see where I was going. I was bumping into doors, bumping

21:00

into walls, dead ends, doubling back. No matter how fast I ran, no matter where I went, those shoes, the sound of them was behind me. After what seemed like forever, I finally saw a light in the distance that was at the top of a flight of stairs that led back to the party. The footsteps were still behind me. I ran as fast as I could. And once I was in the light of the upstairs hallway, the sounds of the footsteps vanished. Hmm, gone. I reached safety. I ran back into the crowd of guests at the party yelling my cousin's name. "Where did you go?" I asked out of breath. And he looked at me with an incredulous look. "What do you mean, go where?" he asked. I said, "You asked me to go to the basement." He looked confused. He said he never went back down into the basement and he never asked me to go back in the basement.

Oh, I'm so freaked out by that.

I didn't believe him. I thought he was playing a trick on me. But when I asked other people at the party, his whereabouts were confirmed. He was with people upstairs the entire time that I was down in the basement.

And like no one else is in the church.

And she literally saw her cousin. Like her cousin tapped her on the shoulder and was like, "Let's go back

22:00

downstairs." So something mimicked her cousin.

I know cuz I I keep wanting to like change part of the story and be like, "Well, maybe there's just like some creep there."

Yeah, I mean a demon.

They're both. I don't know which one's worse.

I'd probably go down into the basement with a demon rather than a a real man. It's almost 24 years later and to this day my cousin swears he never invited me back down into the basement and he swears he's not playing a trick on me.

What would also be weird, like let's say that he did.

Yeah.

What a strange move for him to say, "Let's go back down into the basement." Ditch her, fart up a storm, and then put on dress shoes?

Yeah. And also be able to, no matter what, be behind her.

Yeah, like it's just a weird behavior.

Yeah. So based on the sulfur and the menacing feeling, I'm pretty sure it was a demonic spirit that was chasing me. I'm not sure if it impersonated my cousin or possessed him. I don't know. But I've never liked being in the dark corners of churches ever since.

23:00

I I want to be in a church, period.

No. I can swear evil lurks in the dark corners of these churches.

they pray at the church. I just hope

I know. I can't imagine cuz I'm just like my only frame of reference is my own town and my own church.

Yeah.

That would never happen. Although my [clears throat] church did have like events and I remember there was like a Lego event at my church one weekend and it was so fun. We just like we're in like the big back hall and someone came and brought like the coolest Legos and we just all built Legos for hours. Oh, that's fun.

Yeah.

Mine had very unwelcoming vibes. It was like you didn't want to turn down the wrong hallway cuz it was like

Sounds like

Yeah, sounds like this church.

Spooky.

witnessed an exorcism

Okay. For this next story, I found a thread on Reddit paranormal that was posted 2 years ago, and the original poster was asking, "Has anyone ever seen

26:00

an actual exorcism?" And here's one of the most chilling responses. The username has since been deleted, but here's what they said. "I don't know if it's me being delusional or not, but sometimes I get this feeling of a spirit being there. Maybe it's just my mind being creative or bored, but it does also correlate with paranormal stuff going on in my life. So, throughout my childhood, there was something eerie in my house. Like chairs would forcefully be dragged by an invisible force right in front of me and my sisters.

Mhm.

There would be footsteps, creaking noises, and a lot of us would hear voices when we were home alone. This already kind of feels like more than just a normal haunting. But here's the event that I view as some sort of exorcism. So, I would hear breathing at night. There was a man breathing loudly in my room, and he wasn't standing directly next to me, but kind of like he was standing in the corner of the room. But his breathing was so loud and clear, and it would last for minutes, and it sounded like he was angry at me. Like this is the energy I was getting just from hearing breathing.

Mhm.

His presence didn't necessarily feel dangerous, but in my head, I viewed him

27:00

as a shadowy figure, maybe with a hat on his head and a coat. But this breathing incident happened maybe two to three times. It also then happened to my big sister. Let's call her Mia. She experienced the exact same thing when she brought her boyfriend to our home. She said that as they were trying to fall asleep, they heard something in the corner. They heard that same very loud breathing of a man coming out of the corner of the room. It lasted for several minutes, and they were both extremely scared and confirmed it was not a noise coming from the neighbors. The windows and doors were closed, and the breathing was so loud and so clearly in their room, but there was no one else in there with them.

Oh.

There were so many other incidents that were happening. Like I was scratched in the bathroom very horribly. I also had a woman spirit play with my hair when I was kid when I was trying to sleep.

Oh my gosh.

And after hearing my sister say she had this experience, I didn't want anything negative in my house. I was scared that it would influence my life in a bad way. So I did a lot of research, and I ended up finding this YouTube video online about working against dark energy and

28:00

entities. And the video claimed to banish any negative spirit or energy, kind of like an exorcism, all through sound. The sound in the video was excruciating.

Oof.

Like as it was playing, I physically felt ill. I absolutely hated it. And the background image of the video was an eerie-looking eye. All to say, I hated this video, but I kept replaying it even if it was unpleasant cuz I was really hopeful that it would exorcise or get rid of whatever negative energy was in our home. Here's the thing. I played the video multiple times, and I truly felt energy in our home change and move. Like it felt like after such a long time, there was a dark presence that was gone. So I finally felt safe. I finished the video for like maybe the fourth time, and I closed my computer. The second I closed my computer, my dad got up from his bed, just walked out of his room, walked out of our apartment into the hallway. But, it was weird though, cuz it looked like he was in a trance.

Yeah, in the second that the video was over.

I watched him walk to the hallway, and then he just said, "Hello?" And no one

29:00

responded to him. Then he came back inside, and it feels like he snapped out of the trance, cuz he looked at us confused. He didn't understand why the door was open. Then he closed the door, and truly, the second he closed the door, I was hit with this feeling of relief. Like whatever was in our apartment was gone.

But, like what is like the part about the dad is so weird.

It is, cuz he's not listening.

No.

He's not watching it.

And then like what did he say hello to?

something.

walk the end entity out?

I don't know, that's so weird. Isn't it weird?

But, I'm also so curious about the YouTube video was.

And I'm curious like right before that, was he in kind of this like half sleep state or something maybe where he

Maybe. Was more susceptible. And then he channeled.

Ooh, either way.

It's so scary, cuz it's like you could just be watching a YouTube video, and then the thought that someone in the other room suddenly becomes possessed because of what you just watched.

Buddhist exorcism gone wrong

Okay. This is called Buddhist exorcism gone wrong. So, I wanted to try to find things like from different cultures, too.

This one has a little bit of a curse.

30:00

Ooh.

This is posted 6 years ago also on the Reddit paranormal thread by I got a bunch of cats.

[laughter]

Is it you?

It's me. Did you do it?

And I got a bunch of demons, too. Okay, so long time lurker, but first time posting. I have to tell someone. If you make it to the end, please maybe help me figure out what this is. I am 24, female, but at the time I was 18/19 through 21. My parents were moving across the country my senior year of high school in 2014. So, I was temporarily staying with my different family members. My closest relative to my high school and college was a girl my grandma babysat throughout her life, and I called her my auntie. She's like 7 years older than me, but because she was so close with my family, I called her auntie. So throughout summer before college and the beginning of my third and final year of college, I spent a lot of time living at this house with my auntie. So I was physically in her home on and off between the years 2014 and 2016. And as context, she has had a hard life. Like everything

31:00

terrible that could happen to a person has basically happened to her except death. And the moment I started staying with her and spending time in her home, I just knew something was off. I don't know. Energetically. There was something weird. It was as if something was haunting the house and her. After living with her, terrible things happened to me. I broke my leg randomly. Like I was skateboarding and a bunch of firefighters saw me fall off the skateboard and then saw my leg break almost after the fall. Even they were confused how it happened.

Ew. Oh my god. How trippy.

Isn't that horrifying? Then weirder stuff happened. So I had an apartment in college and around 2:30 a.m. I was sleeping on my couch alongside the guy I was dating when I heard someone call my name. I was very confused. And I did live on the first floor and people would occasionally pass by to try to get my attention and like call my name, but it was 2:30 in the morning on a weekday. And I looked around, no one was there. No one was outside. So I just went back to sleep. Later I had a classmate who was an international student who slept in my house while I was at my boyfriend's. And after staying the

32:00

night, he just kind of avoided me and stopped talking to me. I was confused and finally months later he told me that he had such a scary experience in my house he didn't know what to do. He said he kept hearing not normal noises all night and he couldn't sleep.

The fact that he was so scared that he couldn't even tell her. Like yeah, just fully like I'm not [ __ ] around with this. I keep feeling like I have something crawling on me.

That just gave me shivers in my scalp.

Yeah. But my body's really not my own in this moment anyway. But I keep getting like freaked out that I have bugs on me.

There's no bugs in this story at least that there's no that. I don't know if that helps.

So, I used to sleep over at my boyfriend's a lot and I always had this weird feeling of being watched at his house, especially when I was sleeping. One night though, I smelled something foul, like gassy farts and I thought maybe my boyfriend just ate something weird and was like, "Ew." But then, as the smell took over the room, the room fell pitch black, as if the light was sucked out of the space.

33:00

Why do demons smell so stinky? And why do they take the light away?

Like, I guess that kind of makes sense.

Yeah, but like

appreciate that they come with all these things. Their own scent.

I think if you're just so evil, you can't you can't mask it with cologne.

Rotten eggs.

Yeah.

Are chickens little demons?

Aw, poor little chickens.

I know. They just can't catch a break.

just so stinky.

Little chickens once the T-Rex and now just a

Wait, have you seen that trend where it's like, "What does a dinosaur sound like?" and it's like a kitten meowing or a little kid saying, "Roar." And it's really cute, but then it cuts to the Jurassic Park like opening and then it's the T-Rex and it's about to roar, but then it does the cute little sound.

Oh, no.

[laughter]

What happened?

It's very cute. I'll send it to you next time I see it. Okay, I have experienced the paranormal enough to know that that meant something dark was there and I did not want to deal with it, so I just forced myself to go to sleep. Every time I would go home, weird [ __ ] would happen. Like, random things would move, things would be thrown on the floor,

34:00

even though they had been secured on the counter prior to my leaving. And one day I had this idea that, oh, well, in my mom's home country, to protect yourself in your home, you should put some food out in front of your house and offer it to your ghost or guardian and then light some incense for it. So, I thought I would do that. I called my college and high school best friend and asked if they would stay a while while I said a prayer and lit some incense. As the incense was coming to an end of burning and we were watching a movie, a Bible fell off my shelf. Now, this thing had been lodged two books. Only the Bible fell along with one of my decorative pieces that was on the shelf, and it was a cursive decorative word that said, "Hello."

Mhm.

After that, I started sleeping at my bestie's dorm with his three other male roommates because I was scared so badly. I ended up calling my grandma, telling her all about the situation, and she's like, "Oh, it sounds like a curse or a spell." So, she set up an exorcism for me.

[laughter]

My parents are converted Christians, and my grandma is too, but our ancestors are

35:00

Buddhists, and you need ancestors' help. So, Buddhist way felt more effective in this situation.

Wow, they're very lucky to just have so many different things to pull from.

So, this exorcism, I wouldn't say looks Buddhist. Um okay, so I got there. Think Buddhist monk in a red string barrier with prayer flags type of exorcism. They built a fake image of me laying down in uncooked rice and put a small red string fence around

like an iPhone that just got dipped in water. It's like, "Oh, just put him in rice."

rice. Kind of to absorb the negative energy. So, they put a small red string fence around the rice person. We then had a feast of delicious Asian delicacies in buffet tins, and they began a ritual. There was a lot of prayer, and they kept asking me questions. Like, they asked if I accepted this image to be of myself, and I said, "Yes." They then placed pennies on the depressions of my body, so like my eyes, nose, mouth, hands. I got blessed. They put red perfume on me. They kept doing prayers. And then, they

36:00

got to a point they told me to go shower. But as I was bathing in the temple, I got this image of a young woman watching me. But that was the end of it. The exorcism was done. And then, in June of 2016, the monk of the temple called my grandma to say, "There's something wrong with your granddaughter. Her head. Tell her to watch her head. She's going to suffer." Concerned, my grandma forced me

More than concerned.

Yeah.

You'd be freaking out. Like, give me more information.

Right. When? Like, and also, how did get this message? Like what's happening? Are you using a medium?

Right. And how are you just supposed to like continue on and like That's like if someone was like, "Oh, you're going to die in a car accident." or something. It's like, "Well, how do you ever leave your house? Is the car coming for you? Are you in the car? Are you driving? Are you passenger? Like what's going on?"

We're about to find out. So, my grandma forced me to go to my doctor to get some preventative scans. I did it. Everything came back fine. Then, just a couple months later in October or November of 2016, I was working an event at my university wearing the mascot costume, and someone tackled me. I fell backwards, and inside of the costume

37:00

there's this caging. When I fell backwards, I hit my head in the interior of the caging of the costume. I truly felt like I was dying, but I finished my shift. Afterwards, I went to the hospital

that person. Like what the [ __ ] is wrong with you?

realize that a thing that people like tackle people in mascot costumes.

There's like a person that can be hurt

inside.

I went to the hospital after my shift, and I had gotten a really bad concussion. It was so bad that I had to take the term off from school. And then, I started getting these visions of a very tall young woman floating. Very typical Asian ghost following me. It reached me out at one point. I thought I was hallucinating, and I wanted to believe it was an a side effect of the concussion, but this spirit followed me for at least 3 years. She kept talking to me. She was always trying to get my attention. She would hum randomly, or she would just pop into my peripheral and scare me in general. My electronics started malfunctioning all the time, and I felt like I was being watched by her constantly. This

38:00

lasted for 3 plus years until randomly in 2019, it just stopped. I've spoken to my grandma about it a lot, and she has spoken with the monks who believe it was less of a possession {slash} haunting and more of a wrong place wrong time that someone else's spell or curse latched onto me, maybe from my aunt. I did learn recently that a curse was a was put on her family line, but I'm not sure all the details. At the end of the post, this user asked, "Honestly, if anyone could help explain what happened to me, that would be great. Everyone thinks I'm crazy for thinking that something paranormal happened to me and tell me to go to the therapist. But here's the thing, when I first started seeing this girl, I for sure thought it was a concussion. When it lasted way longer, I thought it was me hallucinating. I went to a therapist. I got help. They put me on a drug. It didn't help. Ah, [sighs] man. Not to add to people who are experiencing some sort of like mental emergency or hallucination or or whatever, but I keep seeing videos online where people are like, "Isn't it

39:00

interesting? Like, has anyone ever looked into why the same like few delusions are shared amongst so many people across cultures, across countries?" Like, why Why is there It's like, pick from one of these three.

They have their MOs.

Okay, then this user posted an update like a couple post down and said, "Whoever or whatever she was is now gone. She never appears around me anymore, and she only showed up when I was alone when she was active. Here are some other things that happened. So, every time I would try to FaceTime, the camera would switch from selfie camera to the regular camera, as if like they wanted them to be seen instead of me. Then my boyfriend and I found a place, and the singing only happened when I was alone. I had to live in a different city for a few months, and the place I was renting temporarily I was FaceTiming again when someone asked, "What was that sound?" And I was so excited that someone else heard it for the first time because I was alone in the apartment and someone heard someone else speaking.

40:00

I would hear her say, "Can you hear me? Hello? And I'm here. Can you hear me?" And I would hear her singing a specific tune, but it sounded like a Cambodian song.

Hmm.

She didn't look like she could speak English, and I did see her. Every time I heard her, I would see a faint outline of her. But I'll tell you, her head hit the top of my door frame.

Oh, okay, there goes that the theory that was in my mind where I was like, is someone using a Ouija board in another timeline and they're like bleeding through and living in the same apartment?

She had a very long hair with a white face and a creepy smile. But her [clears throat] appearance was always so faint, but also clear in glimpses. I did do a trick one time and I asked, "Okay, if you're here, cut the electricity or something." And the damn light started flickering immediately. I said, "Okay, thanks for the proof. That's That's enough. Leave me alone so I don't [ __ ] my pants now."

[laughter]

And I proceeded to go to sleep. Another time I felt a hand touch my leg. I heard knocking on my wall next to my bed. And we don't have the details of this, but

41:00

they said that there was a final instance that took place with my cat and it went way too far.

Oh.

That's where I drew the line. I ended up moving back to my original home with my boyfriend after the few months in the other city. Since 2019, I have not seen or heard from her. Although my boyfriend tells me sometimes I talk in my sleep. I say hello to someone and I have conversations.

No, thanks.

But I honestly don't remember anything that happens in sleep.

No, no, no, no, no. It Okay, I don't want them to do this, but I also selfishly do. To use one of those apps where

when you sleep and any noise gets recorded.

I know. Also it's so scary what you're going to find out though.

That's the thing. It's like, well, I don't want them to actually find out like what's going on cuz it feels like there definitely will be something. But the curiosity.

But like, would you pick up her voice too or would you only hear the the user?

That's the thing. I feel like it would pick up the other side.

Creepy.

were your boyfriend, I'd be like ghost tubing as you're talking.

the Moroccan Djinn exorcism

I've one more story, and this one Get ready to sleep with the lights on. The Moroccan jinn exorcism. This was posted on an AskReddit forum, like subreddit, 12 years ago. And the original poster asked, "Serious, has anyone witnessed someone who was possessed or went through an exorcism, and what's your story?" And I highly recommend checking out this thread because there are some crazy responses. But this one I felt like was the most unique story and added to the appetizer

45:00

of this episode. Okay, the user possessed TW, I think that's what it says, responded with the following horrifying story. "I've never told anyone this story because one, just talking about it freaks me out, and two, I know 99% of people won't believe me. But here's to you, Reddit. Warning, pretty long post here about exorcism and stuff. Don't read if you don't want to believe me, and also if you want to go to sleep tonight." And then it says like too long, don't read. "My aunt was possessed, and I saw a real-life exorcism happen right in front of me, and now she's fine."

Damn. Okay, well, we know she lives.

So, I'm 6'2".

What?

I just really felt like something was crawling at me.

Hey, we actually didn't do this in the beginning of the episode.

We haven't set intentions.

set any intentions. It's October. We might as well do it now.

We didn't do it last episode, either.

No, but our podcast is known to haunt people, so we just recommend that you set intentions and be very clear.

Cuz like it's crawling in my ear.

Oh my god. What the heck? Watch, we're going to find something.

bug?

46:00

We're going to find a little bug.

I hope it is rather than And then they're all over me.

Well, I haven't seen them, but I hope it's just like a little gnat rather than like something paranormal.

They're crawling up you.

Okay. But yes, we are

Wait, you just say set your intentions just to be safe. So, close No, whoa. Can't even say my intentions. It's I feel like I shouldn't say them as addressed as a demon.

Or are you the perfect person to say them?

be scared of me. Here are the intentions.

[laughter]

Here are the intentions.

for the threat.

Nothing with ill intent or with negative energy is welcome into our space, into your space, into anyone who is listening, into their spaces. We are surrounded by love and light and positivity. And that is all that we welcome. Mhm. Boy, bye to the demons.

Hey, stop. Don't touch me there. Get the [ __ ] out of my life. Um okay. So, they wrote, "I'm a six-to-rather-fit man. I can bench press $240." And I feel like bragging what like great.

Um so can I.

47:00

I actually can I can press a lot with my legs.

Oh yeah, yeah. Oh yeah. I can deadlift a lot.

amount for my size and the amount that I work out.

[laughter]

My father and his brothers are pretty much as tall as I am, maybe less strong due to age.

[laughter]

Although they all play sports. But the reason I say that is that one of my aunts is about 5'4 and weighs like 110 lb at best. All of a sudden, my aunt changed. Like we all thought she went crazy. She would get incredibly angry and out of control at times, spitting nonsense words. And there is no way I, my father, or both of us together would be able to hold her down or stop her.

Oh my god.

That's why I mentioned their size and stuff, yeah.

Dang. That's crazy cuz like that's that's like basically my mom. Like it's like it feels like a wisp of a person. You could like flick them and they'll fly. And now they're fighting you?

The user said it She was like 10 times my strength. We needed four people to help get her calm.

48:00

It was extremely scary and all like it happened out of nowhere. She used to be a normal fine person and then all of a sudden she would just pop off anytime and go crazy.

Jeez.

And now I didn't believe in the paranormal but my grandmother, a rather traditional Moroccan woman, was convinced that my aunt was possessed. And honestly, it really felt like it.

Well, yeah, because like you hear people having superhuman strength but it's usually in response to some sort of stimulus, right? Like someone trapped under a car and another person can suddenly lift the car.

This is happening out of nowhere.

Like multiple times out of nowhere.

Yep, no trigger.

Yep.

Honestly, it really did feel like that. So, for people who don't know, in Morocco, there's a pretty big culture about supernatural sorcery, possession, exorcism [ __ ] So, most of the elders in our family firmly believe in it. Fast forward a few months later when things were getting way too difficult for us to help my aunt, my uncle contacted a good friend in Morocco who has an exorcist in his family. The exorcist asked us to do a rather twisted thing. He asked my aunt if she could put a drip of blood in her

49:00

glass of water and leave the glass somewhere in the apartment.

Her own blood.

Okay.

And leave the glass somewhere in the apartment while she was sleeping but not next to her. We were reluctant but my grandmother forced her to do it. So, she put a drop of blood in her water and left the glass in the apartment. In the morning, the glass was empty like someone had drank it. I'm convinced that she probably woke up in the middle of the night and drank it but according to this exorcist, this was a sign that she was possessed by a demon.

Dang.

And in our culture, the Muslim culture, it's known as a jinn or jinoun and apparently giving him this blood was a way to calm him down temporarily and because of this indication, this exorcist said that she needs an exorcist ASAP. So, now we were getting convinced he was right.

Okay, so this was just for confirmation that there was something there.

And it was just like put the entity, oh, I lost my

you lost a nail.

It's just like putting fake nails on. They fall off sometimes.

It's like a temporary appeasement to the

50:00

spirit.

Yeah. Yeah.

But it's not going to stop them. So, things were getting crazier and crazier. So, we were getting convinced that the exorcist was right. Desperate times, sometimes you just choose to believe a possible solution. So, at this point, I decided to believe in what he had said. And we had to get proof that he was right. Now, we live in France. But we decided to drive to Morocco, which was about 1,500 km of driving plus a 6-hour boat and another 500 km of driving in Morocco once we got there. So, a long journey. During the drive, I've truly never been as scared as I was this day. So, I was sitting down on the right-hand side of my aunt and my father was on the left side. My uncle was driving. She went so crazy. She was trying to hit my uncle while he was driving. He almost ran us into a wall. Like, she was desperately fighting against what we were going to do.

Oh my gosh.

Wait, so did she did she know? Like, they told her or

Yeah, I think or the demon knew.

Yeah. Yeah. Cuz my thought was like, oh,

51:00

they were just driving and

Yeah.

would say that they were doing something else.

We're only getting it from his perspective. So, I don't know what the aunt thought. Anyway, we finally get here in this small village called Sefrou in Morocco. It is known as one of the biggest places in the country where sorcery happens. It's a rather creepy place and not in a conventional fun creepy way. What we know of creepy are just what horror movies picture. This creepy was a whole other level.

Mhm.

We went to go meet this exorcist guy and he asked us to buy a sheep to sacrifice. He told us we should bring him the sheep's guts for the exorcism. Me, I'm [ __ ] scared. So, my uncle and father took care of this.

Yeah.

As I stated earlier, I don't believe in this [ __ ] and honestly, this whole situation was way too much. By this point, we're in a freaky spooky village in the middle of Morocco where we are advised to never eat anything outside or accept anything from strangers because people in this town might curse us. Everything looks twisted AF. That's so

52:00

confusing. Like you go to a place for help, but it's also the danger.

It's like that town in India.

I I was just thinking that. Where?

Chad and Carey Hayes.

And then I also did that episode where it was like possessions in India and there was like that whole town where people go to get exorcisms and that's also one of those towns where you don't accept anything from people outside.

No.

So I was really losing it and the more I was there the more I wanted to leave. So on the next day, we went to the exorcist and my father and uncle brought the sheep's guts. They give the guts to the exorcist. He puts them in a bowl and asked if we were feeling strong enough because if we were, we should stay and help because having more people here would help the exorcism easier. I really wanted to leave, but seeing everyone else staying, I decided to stay as well. My aunt was lying down in front of us. The bowl with the sheep's guts were right next to her. We were sitting down around her holding hands and the exorcist started saying stuff that I couldn't understand. It was in a traditional Arabic and not Moroccan dialect. He started getting sweaty. He talks

53:00

really fast and as he's talking, I see my aunt twitching. She looks like she's in pain and the light that we had on went out. I almost peed my pants at this moment. The exorcist screamed something and my aunt started screaming at the same time. Then there was total silence. And I mean this silence was probably only 30 seconds, but it was deafening. It felt like hours.

I'm so curious if she was cuz he was screaming something, but like was she screaming something back or was she just like screaming like writhing in pain?

Yeah, I don't know. They were in pitch black at that point, too. Ugh, that's so scary. The exorcist assistant comes in with a lamp and then we see that both my aunt and the exorcist are passed out. The bowl on the floor with the guts in it, the guts had turned black. Like coal black.

What?

goosebumps just writing this and remembering it and picturing it.

god. I think if I were the exorcist, I would quit after this one. This is like

But that's what they do. That's I think this is the point is

The they but like he passed out.

54:00

But I think that's what he does. So the assistant urges us, "Do not touch the guts at any cost." The exorcist wakes up, splashes some water on his face, and tells us to follow him. We all walk to a nearby empty hill. And on top of it, he asks us to burn the guts. He tells us the demon was now possessing the sheep and we could get rid of it. Done. Truly, since that day, my aunt has been completely fine. Not a single situation where she has ever shown any problem.

god.

Her crisis period never happened again. She never went back to this angry mode, and to this day, it still honestly scares the crap out of me. Just even seeing her sometimes gives me the chills because of the memories.

Well, I'm so glad that she got help.

Yeah.

But I'm not clear on why she was a target.

I don't think we have an answer to that.

Yeah.

But it's wild that the guts absorbed the demon, and they literally turned black.

Ew.

That crazy?

I feel bad. Well, I'm glad that she's okay, but I feel bad for the sacrificed animal.

55:00

I know. It's so sad. But it's scary how common and how many stories there were about possessions and exorcism. And so I wanted to end the episode on some statistics that will scare you.

Okay.

Great. Possessions are on the rise.

exorcisms on the rise

Weekend update.

[laughter]

There's been an increase in exorcisms in the last 20 years, at least tenfold increase. Apparently, so I looked up some stats. The Catholic Church has had an official exorcism right called the ritual Rom Romanum since 1614. In 2005, there were only 12 specialized Catholic exorcists in the United States. By 2016, that number grew to 50. Today, it's estimated that there are somewhere between 125 and 150 specialized Catholic exorcists just in the US alone.

It's so interesting because the number of priests is going down, but the number of they need more priests to be practicing and like certified to do exorcisms.

Which that signifies an increase in possession cases and needs for exorcists. According to a study, 120 Italian

56:00

exorcists were surveyed and it was found that some of them were seeing 30 to 50 cases of possession daily. But in this study, they also were calling for more assistance and they wanted to work more hand-in-hand with mental health professionals because a lot of those cases are mental health issues. So it's I was glad

does have a very strict like it's it's again, it's hard to actually get an exorcism because they do put people through many different steps to rule out pretty much everything else.

And I think we talked about this guy early days of the podcast, Father Gabriel Amorth. He's like one of the most famous

exorcist.

Yeah.

He's since passed. He passed away in 2016, but by his own account, he performed over 60,000 exorcisms in his lifetime.

That's too many.

But I will say

they don't Is like exercising a house or a space, I wonder?

But that's an insane number. But I do want to give I was like doing more research into him and I don't think I saw this last time we talked about him. He thought yoga was a gateway to demonic activity. So [laughter] I do think he probably thought a lot

57:00

more people were possessed than actually were possessed.

Yeah, totally. Oh, that's like I had this subject that I was going to do an episode on for this October and I changed it cuz once I started researching the guy, I was like, "Problematic." Like this is uh

Unfortunately, a lot of problematic people in the world.

Yeah.

And apparently a lot of possessed people in the world and you could be next.

Yay! Are you going to be part of the statistic? Let us know.

I was saw a video cuz I you know, attachment styles. I have an anxious attachment. I'm working to be securely attached, but I saw a video that was very funny. It was like an infomercial. Like, "Do you want anxious attachment?" And it was like all it was very funny. And now I'm picturing that, but "Do you want a possession?"

It did feel like a weekend update though when you were like

Possessions are on the rise.

[laughter]

Tenfold.

Yeah.

Oh, man.

And there's lots more stories.

I hope that none of us ever experience that, but if we do, I also hope that we get in the last story that you read.

58:00

Email us.

of um help.

Oh, I thought you're going to say, "I hope that if you do, email us." cuz also that

Well, yeah, please do. But, also just like after you get help.

Most of the stories that you shared, people knew what to do or at least like sought help and figured it out.

Yes.

listener story

Okay, so I knew you're going to go dark. So, I tried to go light.

You what? [ __ ] I'm just kidding.

It's [laughter] sort It was sort of, but like it's confusing.

Oh, okay.

So, you said you were going to do Reddit stories. So, I was like, "Okay, well, what's like a classic Reddit demon?" And that would be a Slender Man.

Oh.

So, I have a story that's kind of related to Slender Man.

Oh, interesting.

not your normal Slender Man type

Slender Man with a twist?

Yeah, like maybe with romance.

[laughter]

Our listener fell in love with Slender Man?

Okay, this is about a friendly maybe sleep paralysis demon.

Well, okay, I forgive you. I'm I'm I'm down for this story.

[laughter]

Hello ladies, my name is Claire and I love you all so much. I feel like I really found my spooky family in you two and the rest of the listeners. I thought

59:00

I'd send in my experience about my little sleep paralysis demon. And the very first time I had sleep paralysis was when I was 10 years old. I feel like that's a little young. So, let me know what you think of that, but anyway, it was late afternoon in the middle of a hot Texas summer day. I had played really hard all morning. I rode to the lake, I swam, I ran around in the woods, I built a stick fort.

What a fun day.

I know. I was at my favorite spot and I'd been with my older sister, and by the time we made it home, we were both so worn out. So, I decided I would go take a nap in my mom's room. So, I went and I showered, and then I got in her room, and got into her bed, and her room is the coldest in the house, so I was like, "Oh, this is the perfect place to nap." And I was also stuck to my mom like glue, so anytime I could be around her, I would be.

Nice.

She sat at her little desk working on her arts and crafts, and I listened to her tinker, and I started to drift off to sleep. I must have been asleep maybe a good two or three hours, because suddenly my stepdad was home from work.

1:00:00

And the only reason I knew this was because I had sensed him come home. I could suddenly hear my mom's bedroom fan running, her chair scrape back, and then I heard as he entered their room. They're talking for a while, and I could hear everything, but I just couldn't move. I couldn't speak. And being 10, little me had no clue what was happening, so internally I started to become terrified. I thought, "Oh, I must be dead, or at least I'm dying."

That's such a sad thought to have.

I know, so young. As soon as I could move, I lurched up, I fell off the bed, and I was sent straight into a panic attack, and they didn't understand why, and I didn't understand why I couldn't breathe. Overall, this was pretty traumatic, and this would be the first of many episodes of sleep paralysis. The first time I met my sleep paralysis demon, I was 12. I had gone to bed like any other night, I settled onto the top bunk of my loft bed, and I'm not sure when, but at some point, maybe like an hour later, I started to experience a sleep paralysis episode.

Oh.

I had been expecting a lot of the same,

1:01:00

like, I'm conscious, but unable to move stuff, but instead, I felt sort of like I was floating away from my body.

Astral projection.

I remember seeing myself from above, and wondering what was happening. And then I heard my door creak. I watched as a tall figure formed near my door. At this time, I didn't really know how to describe it, but now that I'm older, it looked a lot like Slender Man. I watched from above as he slowly crept across the room, crawled his way up the little stairs leading to my bunk. It looked like he was grotesquely crunching himself up to like fit into the small space between me and the ceiling, and I felt the panic start to rise every second that passed.

Sorry, how does this get friendly?

[laughter]

His limbs were bending in strange ways, and soon his face was hovering right above mine. I watched as he put his hand over my face, and then I felt my floating consciousness just be crushed back into my body. His fingertips just barely touching my skin, my cheek. I

1:02:00

felt it. And when I forced my eyes open, there he was. I saw him above me. But as soon as I saw him, he backed off, retreating back to the door, and then leaving.

Oh wait, like he was like trying to get her to go back to her body or was it trying to take over, but because she got back in, he couldn't go into her body?

That's the thing. Maybe every girl

He's literally me.

sleep paralysis demon.

But more like a coma demon in Insidious, yeah.

So this was my first encounter with him. But after this, I saw him on and off, and every now and then I could feel him visit me during an episode, and over time it scared me less and less. He never did more

Right? He's trying to gain your trust.

He never did more than just hover around my room after that first time, only occasionally coming close to the head of my bed where he would still be at eye level due to the fact that his

head almost touched the ceiling while he was standing.

Only occasionally.

Okay. And so then, when I turned 13, I met him in my dreams for the first time. I just want to explain my

1:03:00

dreamscape a little bit more so you can grasp the depth here.

Okay.

I've always dreamed very vividly. I've always had control over myself in dreams. I can make my own decisions.

Wow, lucky you.

I know, very powerful. I can say what I want to a certain degree, and I can pick what I want to dream about pretty actively. If I want to grow wings and fly, I can. If I want to breathe underwater, then I will. Sometimes I will actually [ __ ] around with the people in my dreams because I can. And I'll whisper, "You are not real. This is my dream. You are not supposed to be here."

[gasps]

I'll say this to someone in my dream and then they'll freak out. So, I hope someday someone will say, "This is my dream." back, but I guess maybe that only happens in fanfics.

Anyway, there's still time.

There's plenty of time. The first time I saw him in my dream, I was so shocked. He looked the same, the same way that I sensed him that one night when I saw him when I was having sleep paralysis, and I knew it was him. I was dreaming about the woods and I had been wandering at night through the trees, and I don't

1:04:00

know why, but I thought that I should turn around and go back. But just when I thought that, he stepped out from the dark, like he was revealing himself to me in a new way. And he just stood there, very still. And honestly, I was shocked.

Uh.

But I was also excited. I could finally say what I wanted to. No sleep paralysis was holding me down.

That's actually a good point.

Yeah. So, I walked towards him. "Hello?" I said, but he didn't respond. He just stayed still. So, I got a little closer. "You visit me at night a lot. What's your name?"

This is like 13-year-old bravery.

Yeah. He didn't respond, so I just gave him a name, Jim Bob. No joke, I have been referring to him as Jim Bob ever since.

That's amazing.

I said, "Okay, I'll just call you Jim Bob. Is that okay?" And well, so he didn't have a mouth or any facial features, so I couldn't really tell if he liked it or not.

[laughter]

So, I got a little closer. I reached out my hand.

Stop it.

onto my tiptoes. I stretched out, and I was able to touch his cheek very gently

1:05:00

with my fingertips. The same way that he did the very first time I ever saw him. I woke up just then, and I wasn't sure what any of this meant, but I was pretty headstrong and fearless, so I was kind of excited that I got to see him again. Less and less did I get sleep paralysis after that. Instead, I kept seeing him in my dreams. He would randomly appear and I'd say, "Hi, Jim Bob!" very excitedly and happy to see him. [laughter] I love him in a way I can't explain. It's like you just become so familiar.

Yeah.

Yeah.

He just wants to hang

in what you know.

Yeah. And he's getting more from you in the dream, so like it does make sense that he's doing all

this stuff, the sleep paralysis stuff.

Yeah, I know. Just seeing you dream, I guess.

He just hang out with you.

Yeah. He has never ever hurt me. We've had so much fun together in my dreams. Usually, he just follows me around, but it's cool.

a little dog.

[laughter]

But it's cool being able to interact in that way.

Interesting.

At the time, I didn't know anything about sleep paralysis demons, and I've never told anyone about him. And so, I

1:06:00

just didn't really think about any of this other than like him basically being like a white sheet Halloween ghost type of figure.

Interesting.

So, now at 22, knowing how unusual this is, I see how dangerous this could have been for me. So, we have this sort of relationship where when I do get sleep paralysis, it's fine because he is just low-key my paralysis bestie.

He's just casually my bestie causes me to have sleep paralysis.

And when I dream, we have these insane dream experiences together. What I have realized over the years though, was that he only appears in dreams where I didn't dream of other people. Like if my mom or siblings or friends or anyone else in human form is in the dream, he will not appear.

Hm.

As I got older and I dreamed of those things, I saw him less and less. By 14, I didn't experience any sleep paralysis anymore. But I did have awful nightmares. And at the time though, I was having some extremely traumatic experiences. So, my dreams did consist of other

1:07:00

people a lot.

Hm.

I didn't see him for almost 2 years. After a lot of therapy, I was finally able to dream of nice things like floating through clouds and waterfalls that fell from the sky. And then I saw him again. I'm 16. I had been dreaming about nothing. I think all I was doing was maybe sitting in like a flower field or something very Edward Cullen style. And then I saw him again. And I was so excited. I waved at him. I greeted him. But it's almost like no matter how hard I wanted to be closer to him and play like we did when I was younger, I just couldn't. I woke up within a few minutes of seeing him. And I don't understand why, but I didn't see him again for a while. The last time I saw him was maybe three or four months later. I've been in the living room with my younger cousin who's practically like my brother. I'll refer to him as Finn. So, I was on the couch snuggled down in the blanket and I felt like I was about to pass out. My brother's a few feet away sitting on the floor playing a video game. He was on some kind of live server thing, so he's talking to friends and I'm starting to drift off. The dream will stay with me for the rest of my life.

1:08:00

I formed my dream consciousness on the front doorsteps at what looked to be daytime. It almost felt like I just sleepwalk out the front door and then gained consciousness there. So, I'm starting to walk down the street. I'm heading towards my friend's house that's en route. I knew how to get there by heart. No one was out and about. There's no people, no cars, no planes, no birds, no wind. It's just total stillness. As I walk, I turn onto a street and then I saw him just on the other side standing there waiting for me. And I'm so happy to see him again. So, I ran over to him. I'm smiling. I'm hopping around. I spoke to him as he walked next to me accompanying me towards my friend's house and I asked him how he was. He didn't answer. I told him about how I'd been. And as we walked, I heard someone. It was my brother's voice and it sounded really close. I glanced around and it was like he just suddenly appeared behind us in the middle of the street. He sat crisscross with his back to us and he had with

1:09:00

gaming set on. His monitor sat in front of him. I thought, "Okay, well, that's really cool."

Well, this is so weird cuz like never has she dreamt of

a person

that being

Yeah.

Okay.

And it's not like he's conscious It doesn't seem like he's consciously like reaching out, but like he's just there. I thought, "Okay, this is really cool. I'm going to tell Jim that he is my brother." But as I turned to face him, I saw Jim Bob break into a sprint. He was running straight for Finn. And so I sprinted after him. And as I'm running, I felt it in my [ __ ] bones that Jim was not friendly. I felt the energy shift. As he got closer and closer to my brother, his body almost took another form. It was like watching a mama bear go from loving to defensive and deadly. So I started to scream. I started to tell Finn, "Move! Run! Disappear!" Like anything to keep Jim Bob from killing him in my dream.

Oh my god.

And just as Jim got to him, I watched his fingers elongate further into sharp knife points. His arm swung back, and

1:10:00

then just when I thought my brother's head was about to fly off of his shoulders, I gasped and I flew up into a sitting position on the couch. I whipped my head. I look at Finn. He's halfway across the space between us. His arms are outstretched towards me. I'm gasping. I felt like I was about to cry. Finn had this look on his face like he just seen a ghost. His face ashen, he drops his hands. He says, "Are you okay? You were screaming in your sleep."

Are you kidding?

Apparently, I had been convulsing on the couch. My mouth was clamped shut, but I was screaming from the back of my throat. Finn said,

isn't good. This isn't pleasant.

It's creepy.

No, yeah, it definitely [laughter] turned creepy. But after years of friendship

That's how they get you.

perceived friendship

Manipulation, control.

Yep. Finn said that I'd been like that for a few seconds, and then he noticed and he started moving and trying to wake me up. He said that he'd just been on the game and I asked how long and he said maybe it had only been 20 minutes.

1:11:00

like she literally saw him gaming?

Yeah.

Wow.

What scares me now to think about is exactly how long in real time it would have taken to make it to that spot in my neighborhood. From the front door to the spot in the street where I saw my brother appear was exactly a 20-minute walk. And when I also think about the fact that I remember feeling Jim Bob's fingers on my face, my physical face, during our meeting all those years ago, I feel like I dodged a bullet that day. Because when I heard Finn in my dream it wasn't just the dream dialogue. It wasn't one of those dream video games. It was him sitting exactly how he was in our living room playing the same game, playing with the same friends, just somehow he got teleported into my dream. Like my dream consciousness and my physical body's consciousness were meshing in that one moment, but Jim Bob had never seen someone else in my dreams and so I'm really glad that I woke up.

Yeah, me too. Now I'm concerned does Finn now have sleep paralysis? Is Finn going to start seeing Jim Bob?

Well, now, 6 years later, I really don't

1:12:00

know if I'll see him again. I don't know how I'd feel if I saw him again. I haven't had sleep paralysis in so long and ever since that dream I have not seen him. I wonder if he only likes me because I had a child's mentality and now that I'm 22 he knows I wouldn't react like the old friend.

Ask your brother. Ask Finn if Finn is having sleep paralysis.

Right. If he comes back violent and starts choking me out or something like I hear other people's sleep paralysis demons do, I don't think I can take that type of betrayal.

Jim Bob?

I pray that I never have to suffer by Jim Bob's hands.

Me too.

Thanks everyone for listening to my experience about my little sleep paralysis demon.

He's tall. He's not little.

And that's from Claire.

Claire, we need to check on Finn because truly Claire has not seen Jim Bob since that dream.

Oh, yeah.

And Jim Bob went for Finn.

And like did Jimbob pull Finn's consciousness into the dream?

Yeah, I don't know.

To try to jump over.

Or did it just like accidentally happen

1:13:00

and like

Yeah.

Jim Bob was taking advantage of it.

Ugh. And could this have gotten so much worse so much faster but he was just so confused and intrigued by Claire's I don't know chill behavior towards him and excitement.

What's your name?"

Mhm. You're getting Jimbob vibes so we're going to go with that.

Yeah.

I don't know. Claire was like, "Well, he didn't have any facial features or mouth so I couldn't tell if he was happy or not so I'm happy with that. I'm going to call him Jimbob."

just followed you around through your dreamscape.

Yeah.

You were just so strange in your behavior towards him compared to what he was used to that he was just like maybe he was kind of developing a crush on you for a while.

Or he was intrigued.

Yeah, it was just so strange.

yet."

You're not like the other girls.

[laughter]

Geez, that's horrifying.

Yeah.
