very spooky hello hello hello wow s lost the lost the hand and now I broke him this is uh two girls one ghost two girls one ghost and we are your ghost SES that is Karen hello and I am Sabrina hello hello hello it's just the episode where we only say hello hello hello it's kind of like that acting um technique where you literally say you go back and forth but you say the same word just in different yeah you have to like react to the person yes hello hello hello

1:00

hello hello hello the when we first met where we birthed Our Roots as creatives and now we bring it to you every week I just went on my baby moon and I knew I was going to forget all the details but I'm going to attempt to tell you a couple cool places so we went back to Newport which Brian I go to Newport like every single year so but we try to explore new things every s time and the first night Brian did a bunch of research and we went to eat at the white Tavern which I was like it sounds so familiar have we did we cover it I couldn't find an episode on it from us but I thought we covered it but we didn't okay but it's apparently it's like one of those things where it's like everything is the longest operating or oldest whatever yeah but it's the longest operating Tavern in the United States it was so beautiful it was so

White Horse Tavern, RI Haunting

2:00

cool we dined upstairs all of the beams and the floors are original to the space what was the photo that you took that I commented on that was so beautiful the that was right across the street so the white yes the White Horse Tavern is like just unbelievably beautiful and it's also haunted I was looking up some of the hauntings that happen and basically like it's kind of the run-ofthe-mill this is like our version of The Little Mermaid you use the Dead skeleton hand to brush your hair but it's kind of like the the typical like oh there's someone in the bathroom and then there's a woman seen on the stairs and like those sort of hauntings but I guess that there was a death there that happened so basically the small amount of history that I can remember that happened there was at one point the tavern also housed people which I think a lot of taverns did where it was kind of like downstairs is the pub upstairs there like a room to stay and so these two men who were traveling through they booked a room and in the morning they didn't check out and so two of the women who worked there went to go

3:00

check on them one of the guys was just completely gone the other one dead and so at first they were like is this a murder but it wasn't there was no signs of Foul Play like nothing did they like drink too much so at the time they were starting to think oh my God is this like an infectious disease or something and so they sent the women the two women who were in the room kind of like breathing in the same air and touching the body off to live like quarantined on some Island where they actually did get SI I can't remember what it was but it was like basically they contracted the plague and they died and so one of the women is seen there so yeah okay but then across the street is the Friends Meeting House it is I think it's the a first like original meeting house ever in the US or something meeting house or like what's the friends like friends it was like where and Ross basically and then they'd go get drunk at the pub next door at the tavern the white first Tavern then across a street from that

4:00

was the prison so it's like you go with your friends you go get drunk get to drunk you go spend the night in the jail yeah yeah so that was really cool and we also went to The Breakers which is one of the Vanderbilt oh houses yes it was hous are beautiful oh my God I took a million photos it was so beautiful but I was most curious about the money because everything is so ornate yeah and in my research this this is so just like atrocious how much they spent but basically like in today's money they spent over $200 million to construct it and that wasn't their main house no they had three homes yeah oh my god there was like one in New York one here one somewhere else I can't remember it's like the medii family like that it's stupid Rich totally stupid rich and this yeah this was their summer home and Mr Vanderbilt he only got to spend four Summers there because he had a second

5:00

stroke which killed him before he got to spend more time there but jeez okay well one good thing about the house is that the servants quarters were actually quite large in comparison to most other people so they gave them a lot of space and a lot of room that's nice yeah in compar the house is so freaking big that there is capability for that yeah yeah yeah it's basically like dorm rooms yeah like if you picture a college dorm but like you would just get a single one but they spent over 200 I'm going to just make this up they spent like $223 million to make it it cost so much money to maintain the property that the air of the property their daughter couldn't afford to maintain it she had to sell it to the historical like preservation Society for 2 million doar so they literally lost so much money on it and basic probably paid off right so like maintaining it cost a lot of money but like she still pocketed a lot of money from son in that house $2

6:00

million in comparison no but she didn't have the 200 Mill she didn't spend the $200 million in the first place so she got to sell this house and and have money maybe but she did it's kind of complicated so like she did keep it up until I think when she was about to die like there was she inherited a bunch of money and then she was spend a ton of money trying to keep it going 20 years old no I think she was she was lot older but the breakers after after seeing this like ornate beautiful like gorgeous Newport mansion side just like extravagant Palace yeah when in my research basically people were saying like the breakers is the perfect example of when material wealth and greed goes wrong where you spend so much to show how flashy you are that you actually put your family which was the richest family in the world or like in the US not in the world definitely not in the world not with uh you like set them up for failure in the future yeah that you yeah

7:00

yeah it is crazy when you go to those houses it's like no one needs a house that big it's stupid big there were also Al also there were these in all the bathrooms I took so many pictures of the bathrooms cuz I was like I need a bathroom renovation yeah basically so they had these little tubs in every single bathroom and Brian thought it was like a foot wash you know cuz they didn't bathe every day yeah was it not and I thought it was a b day yeah that's what I was going to say it was for sits baths so basically cuz I went up to a worker and I was like what are these little tubs so women it was so incredibly uncomfortable traveling in carriages and on horses that it would like really screw up your whoa vaginal area so you would take sits baths to like soak off the pain and the welts of your it's like soaking your feet after like a long grueling hard day of work they were in every single room guest bathrooms sit baths not far off

8:00

from a day similarish but soaking it was weird because it did look like a foot bath like it was little so I would just picture you know like people are just like literally squatting and only placing their vagina in there butt in there yeah huh sounds a little uncomfortable too there was some cool stuff some really historic awesome Co history I will say I'm really bummed because I for like days was talking to your hotel trying to get dessert brought to your room oh my God they were so not helpful there was so much going on at the hotel they there was a Gala there was Junior Prom there was senior prom all of the Rhode Island colleges were graduating that same weekend there was a oyster and Cher Festival like it we we had no idea but I was like I was so on it and I called them and they sent me the like link and then I was like okay this is what I want to do and they're like you have to use the link and I was like there's nothing you can like you can't do anything on the link L this is

9:00

what I want I'll give you my credit card information they're like this is not how it works and I was like why can't you help me I think it was just like utter chaos that weekend we didn't know how crazy it was going to be well I'm glad you had a nice baby moon yeah thanks for the thanks for the would be dessert it was the thought that count I had plenty of dessert don't worry good I had a lot of lobster and seafood and good stuff that's nice yeah we had some hauntings we went to I think it was like the first synagogue in the US we we did a bunch of different Brian's just the sweetest he was like it's your baby moon I was like it's our baby moon but because he was viewing it as my baby moon since I'm the one carrying the child he did a ton of research into historic and haunted places and just like took me on a walking tour and told me everything about like he did the research and was telling me everything yeah so I had to do very minimal research myself that's great you deserve that you deserve to relax you are about to enter a very uh tiring but also exciting

10:00

chapter of your life I know my belly dropped while we were in Newport which was horrifying I felt it it hurt I screamed ow and then I said I'm scared to move and Brian said don't be scared he's just a little baby he doesn't know that he's on your bladder and pelvis but I was like I'm just a baby I'm just a baby just a baby but anyhow it was fun it was great and now I'm in pain and out of breath I'm sitting here and this is the second to last episode we will record with baby in womb yep in Udo yeah I'm putting myself on bed rest for the last two weeks yeah wow so exciting yeah I can't remember if I said it on I don't think I said it on a recording but the house that I've moved into is haunted yeah you didn't you just on campire stories yeah do you want to tell everyone what it's haunted

Sabrina’s Haunted House

with or by or who I moved into the house and like the day before we moved in we did the like final walkr with the

11:00

previous owner and as we're leaving she goes you guys are just going to love this house it's so beautiful you might even and I go is it haunted and she goes you might even see some stuff and she's like I don't know if I should be saying this to you and I was like no I'm just shocked you even got the walkthrough from the previous owner cuz normally they're not there normally they don't so she's a realtor in Marblehead and she wasn't the one who sold the house but like basically we got her a gift we love her okay we text her well this is nice cuz then you got the Intel which we wouldn't have normally right so she said that the house is definitely haunted and you'll occasionally see things like out of the corner your eye like someone walking past but that it's not she said I've never felt unsafe or uncomfortable in the house it's all like very like good positive things and then there's a it's light and bright and Airy too like it does feel good vibes and then there's a sink at like the wet bar and it turns on by itself occasionally and and then she said they had plumbers come out and look

12:00

at it and everyone was like there's nothing wrong with this well cuz it turns off too turn ons yeah also the basement's super creepy and you tried to show it to me but we couldn't even get the door open it was so stuck but if it's late at night when you turn the basement light on and go over to the library area Through the Wood like crack so you can see the light from the basement it's super creepy what if it just turns on on its own and you guys are looking down and you can just see the floor glowing hello Aunt Polly no Paulie's upstairs with her pigeons that's true she was on the second floor the previous owner also left like all this really cool old artifacts and photos of the house like from different periods of time and then there is this like massive bag full of like a lot of them are receipts like grocery receipts from the 1800s wait that's very cool yeah cuz so it used to be a store so it was at first there were six families

13:00

living in it and then it was a store like a general store or a grocery store or something or maybe like the guy owned a grocery store so there's a lot of grocery receipts for a lot of eggs butter and cheese like those were the main ingredients purchased so interesting and then this man who lived in the house in I mean he wrote this in 2011 he put together like a 15 page history of the house which is so cool and I haven't sat down and read it yet but like um GNA you have to read it you have to add to it oh and I want to make it coffee table book yeah I had pitched you the coffee table book idea also you gave the coolest gift in the world I actually was proud of that gift I hope you actually like it cuz I thought it was super the coolest gift in the world well you talked about making your very upstairs floor more of like a whiskey bar Co Lou yeah like old wood panel you know sanky Moody sort of vibe exactly so gift for that space

14:00

share it well this was actually I feel like I stole Marissa's wedding gift to me and Brian cuz she got us custom matchbooks but I got you matchbooks which I put the date of your house on and then I traced the animal that's on your historic plaque and made kind of like a pattern out of it so that it's kind of like a like when you go into swinky cool bars like they always have those for our house yeah yeah I mean you br your house branded matchbook bar collectible matchbooks the coolest gift ever because then anyone who comes too can take it home as like a little souvenir I didn't take one you need to cuz I haven't been to the bar upstairs yet I was like oh wait and then I matched the color I tried to match the color to your kitchen cabinets but it was really hard to it's hard being without actually saying but I got close so cool but speaking of hauntings mhm this is a paranormal podcast where we talk about hauntings and I had like a

15:00

whole plan for this episode where I wanted my dad to share his paranormal encounters and I was going to regurgitate them to all of you but my dad has a lot going on in his life right now yeah he's hard to hard to lock down and he has a newborn so he has not had time to send me his hauntings I will do that soon yeah sometime within the next year yeah whenever he down and like just record a phone conversation or something you're right but my dad's encounters are from what I know a lot of them are scary so I was like well I'm still going to do a scary episode stick with the scary I'm sticking with scary and so we're going to talk about someone who has spent a lot of time exercising demons I don't know who it is this is Ralphie sari

Story of Ralph Sarchie Begins

which is a name I am not familiar with I've never heard of this person and I feel like this is another example where we're going to say a name of someone and everyone who's been more like deeply

16:00

into certain parts of the Paranormal is going to be like oh you guys are so how do you not know about this person I've never heard about this person before this person is a bit controversial oh and you will you won't know him but you'll recognize things that have been created because of him okay so is he like an exorcist or something well Ralphie sarchi is a retired NYPD Sergeant who served the South Bronx in New York City for I think 18 years wow not the career I was guessing leading up to what I assume he had two demons and Devils he was like the Batman of demon oh my God put up his Bat s well I guess it wouldn't be what did you just say I was say put up his bat signal yeah his his cross signal Jesus is coming so during those years as a NYPD officer he was faced with you know a really terrifying side of humanity I think the South Bronx Precinct that he

17:00

worked at was one of the most dangerous and violent precincts like that area so we're talking murderers violent crimes robbers addicts all this stuff but when he was off duty he faced and continues to face a whole other unearthly side of evil this guy just loved chasing evil oh yeah I feel like if I had to have the job that he had during the day I'd be like shall I make pottery shall I open like a something relaxing a watercolor Studio something meditative righten this guy is fighting bad guys left and right human and inhuman so he used his police training along with two things that he said could are the only things that could truly protect him against the dark Forces he faces off the clock a vial of holy water and a crucifix that is because Ralphie sari is a real life Exorcist wow he's putting a

18:00

lot of power into those two he is items too I feel like normally there's a little bit more of like an arsenal of yeah I mean so we'll get into the controversial side of things but he is very devoutly religious and so some of his opinions and hot takes on paranormal and possessions I think you and I would have a different opinion of yeah but there is there are a lot of similarities and I think with any of this and anyone who is practicing witchcraft exorcism you have to utilize the practice that you believe in and what works for you so he had his very he had strong beliefs and opinions on it right it's hard sometimes too because you want to cover certain paranormal stories so badly but sometimes the person who's delivering the information we don't agree with but this guy is more of just like like I'll just say it basically he's like anyone who dab in the occult is opening themselves to

19:00

possession so it's like it's that kind of controversy not really like a it's not as like political it's not as political human rights and yeah it's not really death I'm sure he probably has some opinions in that regard that we don't agree with but but mostly he's sticking to the spiritual realm which we can all that we all believe in different things and no one really knows what's going on and that's okay so we can all believe what makes us feel good exactly so Ralphie sari was living a double life saving the city from bad guys and demons alike So today we're going to go on a ride along with uh Mr Ralphie sari get in the back seat of the uh Cruiser and uh let's go catch some bad guys AKA demons I wish he was an anim animatronic like he could move Spen yeah oh what if he had a little like sound effects board and just could press the button I was thinking we need to go steal all those old animatronics from Chuck-E-Cheese and put him in it that

20:00

would be horrifying that was so scary the curtain would open and then they I don't even know what songs they would sing no one wanted to go like why was that a thing I did love Chuck-E-Cheese well no I love Chucky Cheese but like no one was there for the weird show no people were there for the pizza and the like games and the yes yeah agreed okay so on this ride along we're going to take a look into the evil side that Rampages the world and specifically New York City if you do recognize his name it is because he is the real life inspiration behind the film Deliver Us from Evil I've never seen the movie I don't know if you have but Deliver Us from Evil was adapted from Ralphie's book called beware the night that he wrote based on his own experiences serving the New York greater area beware the night exercising demons I feel like that's a good title too I'm surprised they didn't just use the same title yeah I don't know I like it I think because it was

21:00

very Loosely inspired like the character names but that's it's not like they really ran with it yeah they didn't I I'm pretty sure in the movie they didn't say based on a true story it was like inspired by true event okay so not an adaptation just yeah read this gave me some other ideas now we have this movie right well he got paid for the adaptation so yes an adaptation but like loose adaptation okay yeah as some context in the year 1990 there were zero exorcisms authorized by the Catholic Church zero in 1990 so they were all illegally done or they were being done by like other practices like illegal exorcism illegal exorcism Black Market exorcisms you wake up in a tub Vice orans they've been exercised and then just 10 years later in 2000 they were 300 authorized exorcisms and then quite the uptick right and ever since then is said to be between 800 and 1300

22:00

authorized exorcisms around the world so there's definitely an increase and Ralph believes that this is because too many people are dabbling in the occult H it's interesting because this happened after the satanic Panic you know this is more modern day right and yes our population has increased exponentially but like not at all to keep the percentages anywhere near the same as these numbers right and I I think also keep in mind Ralph is coming from he spends his days combating bad guys yeah on like in New York City and I think he very much in order to like rationalize why there were so many bad people I think he had to believe it was because there was an evil in the world like demons who were afflicting humans to be evil so exactly why Mexico had a Countrywide exercis exactly exactly yes and so like as someone and some people who would definitely qualify under sari's standards as people who

23:00

dabble in the occult We're The Witches We Are The Witches I would like to say I don't think that dabbling an all Ault opens yourself up to possessions and therefore becoming possessed and needing exorcism I do but but also at the same time yeah there are dangers as there are with not even dabbling in the occult if you could just you're open the world is the world if a demon wants to possess you whether or not you're dabbling in the occult they could come and get you feel like people really Loosely use occult or like have very specific ideas in mind when they talk about the occult but it's like okay well couldn't the same be said for most religions what do you consider what you're doing how how different is it here right and like any like I feel like meditation and like spirituality it is just a negative 01 2 three to like erase pain or whatever like when you're under torture there's it's all woo woo we are we're all woo woo here yeah listen it's

24:00

just a matter of how you like categorize it in your brain either way my my hot take to respond to Ralphie's hot take is that it doesn't matter what you're doing there is always a risk there is always a percent chance that you might find yourself housing a demon inside your flesh yeah we're all exposed we're all exposed that could happen whether or not you conso a psychic pull tarot cards whatever the heck it is boil children in the woods it could happen or are the most devout Catholic Catholic yeah truly honestly you might be more likely hot take hot take I don't know you talk about them more that's true okay so all that being said sari participated in and performed many exorcisms and his encounters border horrifying and also life altering so grab your holy water your crucifix your crystals bedel sari and your sage and let's go on this right along great how

25:00

did it start Ralph isari was born in New York City on June 14th 1962 apparently at just 10 months old Ralphie contracted a severe illness that truly like nearly took his life and his mom basically was like there's nothing we can do and I pray to God like it's in God's hands now and he miraculously recovered what what was this I don't I don't know I I couldn't find but it was truly like they thought he was going to die yeah yeah and so his entire family was like this was divine intervention God saved him because he has a greater purpose on this Earth so he kind of grew up with this religious saving yeah which in a way how nice to grow up being told that you're special and that you mean something yeah don't we all want to feel that you guys we promise you're special and you mean something to us you do you do you're important you matter he is kind you smart you was important yes I

26:00

couldn't really find much else about his like upbringing I don't think he was extremely religious growing up but then he started working for the mipd and sometime in 1990 he began to turn towards religion more which I believe I imagine is probably because of his job like to kind of understand or put things into a box which is also interesting because it's like you come from a job where you probably feel like you have so little control over what happens around you yeah I would feel like I want I would want something that I can control but religion you also can't control like it's also being like Oh well someone else is I'm just floating here like this is life but it's also faith that someone's protecting you right if you're continuously like in a job where your life is being threatened I don't know surprised you just didn't play The Sims you know like really just try to control the way the world Works somewhere that's what we do yeah that's also like a little bit of disassociating like yeah [ __ ] this life you made me angry now I'm

27:00

pulling the the stairwell from your pool die die so okay and also in like 1990 he had just been married and had his first child so I think he was just trying to like grapple with the world and what meaning there was and how he could protect everything in his life that was good when there was so much evil and it was around this time that he turned to religion and he read this book called Satan's Harvest which is a book about a case of demonic possession that Ed and Lorraine Warren investigated and he devoured the book flipping page after page after page and by the end Devour the Harvest devoured the Harvest the Harvest of Satan I don't know why but when you said Satan's Harvest too I immediately went to like this beautiful cottagey like picture book where like the Last Supper but like Satan's style basically yeah like he's gardening it feels like you know those little IM he like as homes oh wow it got it got

28:00

spicier he just likes the breeze on his bum yeah yeah he's got like an apron you know and he always wins the competition for like largest cucumber oh my God his pumpkin patch don't get us started hug huge lately we've been we've really been uh making Satan hot make Satan hot again that feels evil that we just laughed at that that too we're doing Satan's work right now this is exactly the episode this guy never wanted to happen shouldn't exist these conversations if you know Ralphie you tell him stay away from this and us okay so he devoured the Harvest and by the end of the book he was like I'm going to commit myself to performing God's work and he became a demonologist he truly starts attending Ed and Lorraine Warren's seminars he becomes friends with them I think he went take a couple cases with them and worked with them that's cool and then he as he

29:00

continued to work his day job in South Bronx he consulted and befriended this man father Martin and father Martin was authorized to perform exorcisms through the Catholic church so father Martin became his mentor and with Father Martin Ralphie participated in over 20 different exorcisms damn and in the beginning Ralphie was very much like observing learning watching and he as the muscle so he would go with Father Martin to these exorcisms and pulling people down from floating and trying to crawl on the ceiling physically restrain yeah those who were possessed unfortunately father Martin passed away and Ralph could not find anyone else who was authorized to per and this is like an an epidemic the exorcism epidemic that the Catholic church has facing is that it's really hard to find people who are willing to perform exorcism yeah and it's not like there are that many either

30:00

like it does feel like there's a lot but there's a lot to get to the point of actually having one approved to be 100% exercised by a priest so it's not like it's in this crazy high demand where and like what are the perks for the priest right not much yeah here's some extra body of Christ here's a little snack you get to double your dose I love the taste of nothing was it you who said you really like the taste of them well it was I don't know if I like the tast mom baby bird it to you my mom baby mama bird baby bird and then they took us to a monastery one time in CCD and they starved us like we didn't eat for like8 hours did you find the box of Wafers they made us pay like $4 to get a big plastic bag it like looked like what like a popcorn like a big kettle corn thing would come in but it was all the outer edges cuz they like you know they like that's what you ate do the circle yes why does that feel sacri how we like sustains life I feel

31:00

like you're supposed to like dispose of that in like some like religious way no they made us pay them to like stay alive for a few more hours by eating like the remains of this like rice water wafer remains of the body the body the body of I mean they weren't blessed so I guess there was nothing they were just at that point just deceased just Decay his skin so Weir just like all of us kids on a bus just like like I don't know if this was supposed to inspire me to like devote myself to God but like this is the opposite that's hilarious yeah I guess that wasn't a normal experience listen if I were PR for the church I'd say give good snacks good snacks to kids not like the crust of the body of Christ please I'll send a a deck my parents wonder why I didn't ever want to go to church and why I like hated they starved you like how do you take this experience and everything knows she needs a snack I need a [ __ ]

32:00

snack don't get or die possessed by hunger the other day at a restaurant it's in Newport and where I'm in the bathroom and someone like you know how some people just make small talk yeah someone comes and washes their hands she's like oh my God I'm so full and I go me too I'm so bloated and I don't think she actually understood I was pregnant cuz she got really awkward and didn't say anything I love that oh man well because it's also like one of those things where you're not supposed to assume right and so she was just like I don't know she I I appreciate that she didn't say anything she yeah yeah she was trying really hard to be confusing enough yeah yeah okay so father Martin passed away and Ralph sarchi was trying to find a new Mentor or priest to Shadow and work with but it was really really difficult so he went went out on his own becoming a demonologist vigilante wow this is

33:00

when he like starts to work with the Warren more and then his partner on the force Joe who's now passed away he and Ralph together founded the New York City chapter of the New England society for psychic research which is the organization that the Warren had originally yeah yeah very cool so sari

Ralph Sarchie Goes Out on His Own - Demonologist Vigilante

in his book wrote that he used his experience in interrogating killers and evil violent humans to take on this new adversary who he claimed was more Sly and more seductive than any common crook he ever confronted demons Lucifer Lucy so his book beware the night has a ton of his experiences and encounters with his exorcisms but I'm going to share one story also quick side note please or a side question okay did he have a family a partner yeah he was married and had a daughter I

34:00

think he has two daughters okay and I will get to that in a little bit Yeah I was curious about their reactions and experiences having a dad or husband that does this sort of stuff wait cuz his job as a cop is already like a risk yeah doubling down on the scary yeah on Halloween night in 1991 sari faced one of the most harrowing possession cases to date so it was late Halloween night and S 's former partner Joe Forester who was a polygraph examiner received a phone call this phone call was coming from Westchester New York and it was a priest and he needed their help he required assistance at the home of Dominic and Gabby Villanova stat Gabby was possessed so here's some background Gabby and Dominic Villanova lived in Westchester County with their 5-year-old son and I couldn't find the exact date but somewhere in her 20s daughter life was very normal until one autumn day

Halloween Night Exorcism

35:00

Gabby was in her room and she saw a woman in a cloud of white smoke standing in the corner she turns to her husband Dominic and he's like do you see that and Dominic's like I don't see anything Gabby turns back and the woman has now vanished that's we and this is an autumn day and now we're in October so this this was recent yeah so it's everything kind of happens in a couple month period wow so it really escalates quick this starts happening a couple of times and every time it happens Gabby's the only one who can see her H but then the spirit starts to communicate with Gabby and eventually through Gabby but At first she tells Gabby her name is Virginia Virginia tells Gabby that she had been murdered on the night of her wedding and when she was found dead her family and friends accused her fiance of committing the murder her fiance who claimed his innocence was so distraught that he took his own

36:00

life oh my God Virginia was pleading desperately wanting Gabby's help to be reunited with her one true love and with her family and Gabby's obviously like heartbroken by this story like this poor this poor woman this poor Spirit she's trapped she's lost the way her life ended is so tragic she wanted to help Virginia mm so she continues to communicate and speak to Virginia it's just like an impossible thing because it's like how do you know when you're actually being called to help or like you're just trying to be a good person communicating with a spirit or when something is manipulating you and gaining your trust and talking to you more and more and more right letting your guard down right and it was too late when Gabby realized she should not have let her guard down but because so after this Gabby starts communicating with Virginia a lot to the point where one time she's in her basement and she's walking past a mirror and in her in the

37:00

reflection she doesn't see herself she sees Virginia [ __ ] no ooh that gives me the chills she starts becoming obsessed with this it's all Gabby can talk about Dominic her husband still has never seen the spirit and is kind of confused now getting worried about Gabby Gabby's like telling her friends then her family starts to experience things because hauntings happen in the house like objects are thrown off the shelves okay so no one's actually physically seeing her but now they are experiencing Poltergeist activity yeah and then Gabby and her 5-year-old son saw the Spirit of her father of Gabby's deceased father but it was almost like a weird like very quick Vis of him and he was gone and looking back Gabby is like it wasn't my father it was like a weird manipulative thing things grew increasingly more violent there were moans and growls coming from the basement and once they even found the word help

38:00

written backwards in the Steam on the bathroom mirror which is so like horror movie it is and it also makes me so curious like what is that you know like is this the demon trying to instill some fear or right are there other Souls that like are basically trapped and Tethered to or was it Gabby's Soul yes who's trapped in the mirror who's trapped we don't know and then some truly American Horror Story TV show it happened Apparently one night late at night a furry creature appeared in Gabby and Dominic's bedroom wakes both of them up and in this like deep demonic growling voice trigger warning this is like some sexual assault stuff tells Gabby and Dominic that it is going to sexually violate their daughter and then harm everyone in the family what the [ __ ] I I was picturing like a giant rabbit and was kind of like oh a little furry fuzzy

39:00

creature so cute no like a dirty like rabid dog furry creature is what I'm picturing jeez so everything escalates on Halloween night and I don't know all the details that led up to this um there's probably a lot more details in the book but basically they get a call Ralphie and Joe go out to this house in Westchester and apparently upon arriving Ralph says that he knew instantly they were in the presence of something evil e and so that's so creepy too to just like feel it in the air yes yes and so in analyzing this case Ralph basically says that the spirit of Virginia used her knowledge of Gabby's life to gain sympathy and empathy and concocted a story that the spirit knew Gabby would want to help her with and then give the spirit more power to then eventually possess her body they arve to perform an exorcism to rid Gabby of this demonic

40:00

presence and I'm assuming it worked because because he's had a lot of successful exorcisms but also in reviewing this case sari says that a demon can't masquerade as a friendly spirit for long because it takes too much work So eventually they have to reveal their evil side and this is what happened with Gabby and by the time it did reveal its true self Gabby was too weak and basically all the work that the spirit had done had worked successfully so like yeah he believed that there are different phases of possessions which I feel like we probably align similarly in this regard like the initial attempt and communication and like masquerading is something else mimicking something yes creating a Target and then part two is oppressing the victim trying to isolate them M to then assault them with physical Sensations sounds and mov ments keeping them up at night preventing them from sleeping basically like diminishing

41:00

their Humanity torture yeah torture yeah and then the final step is possession which is where Gabby found herself on the night of Halloween in 1992 so sari's strategy was to and always was to face the Demon's head on commanding it not to

different phases of possession

interfere and it's interesting as someone who's very religious and kind of against the occult he does acknowledge that his rich ual sounds very suspiciously like that of medieval magicians like there is an ult ritualistic manner to his exms so he's a little bit contradictory and hypocritical in that way but he's like at least he's recognizing it a little bit he's saying it without getting to that point you know yeah he's almost there with the critical thinking almost he's almost almost exorcisms that he performed required direct conentration it was the only way it human will against demonic will he calls Upon Jesus and God and he actually says that in his

42:00

rituals he'll never look the possessed person in the eyes oh interesting because he I can't remember all the specifics about it but like one it's almost like staring at the eyes of like an like a angry animal where that feels more of an attack and also he was afraid of looking into the eyes might give the demon more power I can see that it is interesting though because I feel like the way that it's depicted often in like books and movies and stuff is like you know the eyes are the gateway to the soul so it's like if there's someone in there to like look in their eyes and try to speak to them and call them forward right over the demon but I think if the demon is in there are you then looking into the soul of the demon yeah where's the person where are we kept the upside down I don't know but also okay we'll say and he does talk about this in his book that he doesn't go around foring ISM left or right he does do his due diligence and he's very much like aware

43:00

of the psychological side of things that sometimes it isn't an actual demonic possession but is a psychological ailment and issue that needs different type of medical attention rather than his demonologist professional expertise in his book he like lists his criteria to determine whether or not it's a possession and so he goes and he's performing these exorcisms and now like you asked if he has a family he's spending all these years solving crimes on the streets of New York City and fighting Demons Inside the residents of New York's homes and he inevitably is bringing something home with him yeah so according to Ralph's youngest daughter and there was a there's a documentary about Ralph that I couldn't find there's like a clip of it on YouTube there was like A8 minute clip I'm sure if I did more research I could have found the whole documentary but in that documentary his youngest daughter Daniela said that he was definitely bringing something home with him as he

44:00

got more into the work as he called it more things started happening to Daniella and the family and the house she said it was scary we had a picture frame on my parents bedroom wall and out of nowhere it flew across the room polter activity there you go yeah it is also scary because it's like Ralph is getting more deeper and deeper into it so how do you know that your dad is actually making the right choices and he's not starting to kind of like succumbed to the energy and influence of of the Dem evil yeah around him well unfortunately it did Ralphie I keep calling him Ralphie I think that's like a like a good friend name Ralph Ralphie Chas story or what shoot your eye out so he and his wife did end up getting divorced and in his book he he says that while it wasn't all because of his work in exorcisms he does believe that like his extra regular work after hours impacted and drove apart the family a

45:00

little bit bad but he never once charged for his work not one cent he always did it for free and despite being the recipient of a lot of criticism like a lot of people in the Paranormal world were like you never provided evidence all of this stuff and that's with anyone in yeah anyone who does Paranormal work the scientific Community is like I don't believe it you've never given us enough evidence to actually prove that there's a possession and well there's not enough evidence for a lot of scientific theory out there that we just assume to be accurate and a lot of the or on the way to being proved yeah right so I think a lot of it was because Ralph did video all of his exorcism so people are like if you have the evidence why wouldn't you show it but Ralph is like I'm performing something on someone that's very intimate and it's confidential like I'm it's extremely private yes it's not actually in the medical field but he was following like a HIPPA rule type of thing like protecting the privacy of

46:00

these people and I also feel like often times the people that will argue against it even if you show them that it's not going to make a difference so you're you're only doing harm and 100 exposing someone's most vulnerable state you're not going to convince someone like that right yeah you can however watch one clip from his documentary and okay so then when the movie was made Deliver Us from Evil a girl Olivia mun played sar's wife and in order to prep for the movie Eric Bana and Olivia mun were permitted to watch an old police taping of a real exorcism from sar's files holy [ __ ] and I'm going to read a quote from Olivia Olivia said I got to see them I only watched one part before I turned it off because it freaked me out so I'm looking at a guy and he's sitting there it's grainy black and white but it's the real tape and you're seeing this guy he's sitting there and a straight jacket and he's shaking and he's got this

47:00

otherworldly look in his eyes oh this is making me so sad for this man and I looked at Eric and I said what do you mean like crazy and he goes no no no

Olivia Munn Prepping for Deliver Us From Evil Film

like he's from another world and it's true his eyes look like he's from another world and he's shaking and out of nowhere his forehead splits open what the [ __ ] out of nowhere he's in this straight jacket and then he starts drooling this drool hits the straight jacket and turns turn into blood what and and his forehead like is bleeding from nothing from nothing he's in a straight jacket Olivia said as soon as this happened I turned off the tape because I couldn't watch it anymore no I would feel like I was opening myself up to something if I watched that horrifying it's kind of reminding me of the Zach be Museum how they play the actual like audio and video clips of certain possessions and murderous situations and how icky it feels it's super icky like witnessed that yeah it's very icky oh my God so Olivia mon can't

48:00

even sit through this I know I wouldn't be able to sit through this but like this is something this guy just one of the many cases he actually like physically was in person for yeah and then people were asking if the set of the movie Deliver Us from Evil was haunted and Eric Bana said this is a quote I really shut down a bit when we were shooting to that stuff because I really wanted to concentrate on what I was doing but yeah I was aware that there were definitely things occurring away from the set in the offices and warehous houses of various departments that were working on the film some really weird things that were happening I heard a few stories but I was working pretty hard on this one and I tried to stay focused and not think about that stuff that's so hard and scary that's his like PR response because he doesn't want to like think about how horrifying it was yeah that's terrifying so to wrap up this episode after years and years of fighting crime and conducting exorcisms all around New York City Ralphie sari retired in 2004 and has committed himself to working demonology cases full-time he went on to write and

49:00

publish a bestseller called beware the night which documents some of the most intense and dramatic cases of exorcisms I learned a lot about Ralphie sari from this book called The Complete Book of ghosts written by Paul Roland that I think a listener gave to us H but Paul Roland in the book is quoted saying but where the KN reads like a hardboiled crime novel where demons are the bad guys oh my God yeah but so sari has also been criticized because as he has spent so much of his life working on these cases he's very very adamantly said speaking about these evil entities gives them more power which we've heard too cuz it's like a little gossip you know there they're hearing you say their name they're hearing you talk about them and they're like talking about me oh interesting who ears are ring who's calling for me were your ears ringing demon Satan we were calling you hot but then not Ralph goes on and writes his own book about the de and his Exorcist cases and then sells the story to Hollywood which is a bit

50:00

contradictory so I think a lot of people were like which one is it buddy I understand it being both though because it's so convoluted because it's like the things exist it's such a tough position because it's like you want to warn people about the things that exist in the world but by warning people you make people more aware of them which can backfire it can either help or backfire and also it's a risk you got to take I guess clearly this guy has lived a very fast fascinating life he probably has so many crazy stories that selfishly I'm glad he wrote this book because now we can share stories with you right and also like yes demons are scary and exorcisms and potential of being possessed is horrifying and I don't wish it upon anyone and I knock on freaking Sven skull that that never happens to us but I [ __ ] love those stories they're they're so fun to read yeah they are especially because I feel like there's so many paranormal movies which the Paranormal scary movies are terrifying right like there's so many

51:00

like The Omen like there's just so many about like demons and something coming after you that sometimes it feels easy to just believe in it as like a movie Trope and this is a reminder that these are actual cases and like real things people live through that are inspiring writers to turn these things into movies based on real things exactly yes it exists off the page my biggest thing though is like like when it comes to having someone be controversial or people like disagreeing with someone like it is so easy to be controversial we're all just one person has to disagree with you and call it controversial one one person has to have a different opinion in there controversy but people are welcome and open to having their own opinions what I will say is in terms of raly sari performing exorcisms he had good intentions and was hoping to rid people of demonic entities that were riddling their lives and and impacting them and at least in the

52:00

research that you presented it doesn't seem like there was any harm being done right in his attempt to do so it was only good hopefully or maybe just Baseline nothing changed exactly he also did like write about he was commenting on how it is really hard to find people who are doing this work but then there are also a lot of people who are like I could do that but he said it's really really hard because it's often times not a oneoff thing where you go and perform one exorcism and you're done no you have to go back multiple times and you see a human being who is a as far as he knows a good person being tortured right and you're probably in their house you see all their family photos surrounding them yeah that would be really tough yeah this is reminding me of the good place a little bit in one of the later Seasons where they kind of like discovered that the scale is broken and that people aren't being rated for being good in the

53:00

way that they should cuz the only person who's good was that like one man who lived on that farm whatever yeah I can't remember the only one who was going to go to heaven or something yeah like someone gets like 100 points for giving like a rose to their Grandma but they just like choked at Chihuahua an hour earlier and like it it was like weird right in the in the thing but this is what makes me think of this where it's like how do you know I guess when there are controversial opinions like could is it's tough to rate because it's all subjective too 100% also this is kind of like a weird thought but as I've gotten older I've realized like okay this is a blanket statement this is going to require some discussion okay okay we are all trying to be good people or not all of us but people are trying to be good people yeah but no one's perfect and therefore no one's actually good like we all make B bad decisions sometimes right we're all just trying we're all just trying to live yeah and it's just a weird thing like when you're a kid you're taught to be behave be a good

54:00

person do all these things but then as you get older you're like oh like we're all a little bit [ __ ] up right and sometimes some friction and misbehavior is actually the best thing to move us into a better place right it's such a weird thing where I think I've reached a phase of my life my Saturn return my rebirth was very much like oh everything you were taught as a kid is a lot that we are trying to tell ourselves to follow but like it's not real nothing's black or and white black and or white what are what am I even saying my words the gray area there's a lot of gray here's a thing like what's a thing let's just freaking survive you know like let's just live life our souls chose to come here for a reason let's just try to enjoy it let's not get all caught up iny in everyone's flustering Minds yeah let's just hang out with a skeleton paint butter FES and with the dead ghost stories

55:00

yeah do you have a listener story I do it was titled I might have been possessed oh no so I thought that's a good one that works that works great it love to hear it sucks but it works for us too bad so sad hey I'm Jessica I just started listening around Halloween and I'm still listening in December great two months later still committed I have the story that might scare you guys so I'm sorry in advance no to fully understand this story I need to give you some background it doesn't seem like it will be relevant but I do promise that it is okay I'm what I like to call a useless Prodigy I've always been really good at stuff really early but it's stuff everyone's good at so I was talking in full sentences

Listener story - “I might’ve been possessed”

before I was one I could read and write by two I literally don't remember ever learning little Matilda I know most people remember being taught but it happened too early for me to even remember so reading has always been my

56:00

escape and my comfort I've never in my entire life had a problem reading and it's never been anything but a good thing for me okay so once when I was 12 my mom had this Bible study group that she went to and I was bored so I went with her okay I was never really into that sort of thing so it was kind of weird for me to go and I can only assume I was just truly horrifically bored everyone was sitting in a circle talking and at one point they started going around the circle reading passages out loud to the group it gets to my mom and I know that I'm next so I start reading ahead like everyone does so that I know my part it gets to me and I can't talk I started stuttering out the words and it almost hurt I could tell everyone thought that I just couldn't read very well because I had to actually very slowly sound out some of the words like I was a toddler H I could read it just fine but for the life of me I could not get these words out I was scared something was wrong with me but mostly I was just horribly embarrassed and I was

57:00

12 so it didn't take too much to embarrass me yeah we were driving home a little later and I could tell my mom was really worried she kept asking me if I was all right if I felt okay and I didn't really know what to say I said I felt fine but something was definitely wrong I remember crying a little bit in the car we got back home and a little more backstory all of the bookcases in our house were in my room and all of the books except for a handful were mine so my parents books were in my room too my my dad has this really old Bible that was his grandma Betty's it's not valuable or anything it's just his mom's and it's pretty old and it's falling apart a bit and I had a hard time sleeping that night and I've always been nocturnal anyway so I didn't get to sleep until really really late probably like 3:00 or 4: in the morning and I had a nightmare that I can remember clearly to this day uh-oh it felt so real it started with me waking up in bed which normal right sure so I laid there for a while trying to wake up enough to go to the bathroom so after like 10 minutes or so I go to get up but I can't it doesn't

58:00

feel like something's holding me down I don't feel hands or anything it was more like a force field like in a Sci-Fi movie I started screaming for my mom and dad and no sign Ting scared I know hi Sven Hold On Tight Sven it's almost over I got you I started screaming for my mom and my dad and no sound came out I could feel myself screaming you know how you can feel your throat straining a little I know I was making noise but I couldn't actually hear anything so I knew that my parents couldn't hear me either oh no so I started trying to push through and get out of the bed after a while I seemed to make it through a little bit but I'm crawling towards my door and then I feel something it grabs my ankle I look back and there's nothing there but it starts Lifting me up and dragging me back to the bed I'm almost upside down one leg yanked into the air the other hanging down only my hands and my head are on the floor holy [ __ ] I was suddenly

59:00

absolutely sure that this was a demon I knew it like it was absolute fact the sky is blue the grass is green and there's a demon grabbing me right now I started clawing at the carpet trying to get to the bookcase across the room from my bed and I could see my grandma's Bible on the second shelf from the bottom I was trying to get to it I had no idea what to do with it but I just knew that I needed it oh my gosh so I'm struggling and this thing is so strong and I'm fighting and I'm fighting and eventually I'm able to grab grab the Bible off of the Shelf as soon as I pulled it close to my chest the thing dropped me I hit the floor hard and then I wake up in my bed in the middle of the afternoon and I'm scared to death I started saying the hour father but I can really only remember the end which is weird I'm pretty sure that's the only prayer that I've ever known and it's in my mind but it's just erased and I can only remember the part Deliver Us from Evil so I start there I said Deliver Us from Evil out loud and then then I said it again and I suddenly remember a few more words before that and so I say and lead us not into temptation but Deliver

1:00:00

Us from Evil and then I remembered a few more words before that oh she's like regaining her strength and oh my gosh so it took a while but eventually I worked through it from the end like that bit by bit until I could say the entire prayer I eventually felt safe enough to leave my room and I went into the living room and I asked my mom if she had heard me screaming and she said she didn't and I wasn't really surprised because I couldn't hear myself either even though my throat was still hurting from trying to if I hadn't woken up on my bed instead of on the floor and if my grandma's Bible wasn't still in the bookcase I never would have thought that maybe this was a dream sometimes I'm still not sure even though all of the evidence points to it being a dream I've never told this to anyone but my mom my dad doesn't even know I probably will never speak about it again honestly I'm not entirely sure why I'm telling you we're glad you are nothing like that has ever happened again and if I was possessed then it really was the early stages and I was really lucky that I

1:01:00

went to Bible study with my mom to this day that was the only time I've ever had trouble reading or talking anyways I hope you enjoyed the story I really like your podcast and I listen to it when I can't sleep see you on the other side Jessica we really like you Jessica thank you for being here and thank you for no longer being possessed but I'm very confused because the possession began at the Bible study that's what I was going to say I I feel like it's happened because you went to Bible yeah I feel like it existed in a dreamlike state but it actually happened whether it was to her physical body or her astral body it actually happened well and Jessica's throat hurt too yeah it all it's real it could have all fully happened and even though the Bible's back on the shelf and Jessica was back in her bed it doesn't mean anything because it could have been lost time like don't know how long blacked out from the trauma of it or could it just happen in a second and you feel like yeah I don't know but this is the demon and then Demon's like I guess I'll clean up bye okay factory reset try again

1:02:00

another time but it does remind me of my friend Nikita who thought she was having a nightmare being dragged across the carpet in her childhood home walking down the hallway in the middle of the night and then woke up and had rug Burns all down her legs which just how she knew it wasn't actually a dream and this is how I feel about Jessica whether it was kind of like you were saying a dream an astral State situation or just truly physically happy happened it doesn't matter because even if it did exist in a dream I don't think it was a dream it was a attack that just existed in the dream space but still a demonic attack a demonic attack 100% but [ __ ] yeah you beat that [ __ ] you're truly a prodigy you are this was useful demon fighting Prodigy not everyone can do this no not everyone can find off a demon their first time their first time yeah yeah so good job Jessica Round of Applause for Jessica snaps for Jessica it's like we're back in our sity snap snaps snaps
